I'd like to throw a recommendation out there for Dying Light. Very fun take on the zombies, open world, and survival. It is basically a functioning version of Dead Island (same devs) with a lot of the dumb stuff fixed. The hook is that you have to rely more on melee weapons. Using guns is allowed, but zombies are cued in on sound in particular. So if you fire your gun, expect to have zombies coming in from all over.

And then it gets dark.

Exactly.  Basically with Dead Island they were under strict limitations from their publisher which caused them to cut some corners.  After that was a success, they were able to make Dying Light live up to the full potential of the original vision, and with the lessons learned from the first one.  Personally though, I always liked the setting of Dead Island more, so I'm really excited that they're working on a new game with the old resort setting, but the lessons learned from Dying Light.

And in honour of the ten year anniversary they featured a game where you attack a giant crab's weak point. Except now the crab is twice as powerful, one thousand times bigger and so expensive only the richest kings of Europe can afford it.
