"SFCGE knows Spore didn't sell as well as some people wanted, and it came in years behind schedule. And Kotaku reports that an internal EA memo said the layoffs were to "improve our cost structure, ensure quality and build schedule integrity for this studio."

That's corporate-newspeak for, 'Your games cost too much to make, didn't make enough money, plus they sucked and were late. Happy Thanksgiving! XOXO!'

Exactly what i have been saying for the last 10 months

Its about a fictional Organization called The SafeGuard (play-on the CoastGuard). Your current assignment is to Lead the Rescue Mission to save Stranded Campers out on a planet. Unfortunately for the campers they hit a Dust Storm.

Let me know if you liked it, here or as a comment on the adventure. Thanks.

(okay don't rate, but let me know if you liked it or hated it, with a reason)
The Adventure took me about 19 hours to make.

« on: December 04, 2008, 07:44:57 am »
I just have a question for anyone that baught spore on Valves Steam platform. When you buy steam do you guys have to deal with all this DRM bul**** and we securom? Can you guys play the game on any computer as long as you log in to your account just like all the other games on steam? I'm just asking so that I can buy the game on steam instead next April as a pack with space adventures. You know, 2 for the price of one.

Spore: Creation Corner / Your Planet Creations
« on: February 07, 2008, 03:05:02 pm »
I was just wondering if any of you guys were already planing your own fantasy planet. I found a cool planetary engine made by Jochen Winzen that is capable of rendering planets but it was not good enough so i did some modifications to try and make it look kinda like the way spore looks like. I mostly modified the art aspect of it.

Here is what i came up with:

Far Orbital View of Planet Cyres

Low Orbit view

Dusk at Cyres

Cyres' Moon with a thin atomoshphere

Rings of Planet Serpo

I want to see what kind of Planet you guys come up with!

Download the IUE to create and share your own planets for people to explore!;9591499/fileinfo.html

Now this program comes with my Spore planets.
Its easy to create your own Spore planets just make a a height map and a colored texture map and i apply them to the allplanets.xml file in the XML folder.

Show me your creativity.

Jochen Winzen wrote a report on how everything works in english. Just read the following report starting on page 43. It starts talking about the controls and how to use features such as rings/clouds/etc...

Have a read at Page 43:

Here are some Basic Controls:

A.2.1 Controls
The program has to be controlled by a combination of mouse and keyboard commands.
To look around the mouse is used by moving the mouse with a pressed mouse
button. This avoids erroneous movements.
Until now there only exists one aircraft model that is controlled this way:
• Mouse move with left button pressed to change view direction.
• Mouse move with right button pressed to roll around view axis.
• Press ’SPACE’ for immediate stop.
• Keys ’1’ to ’0’ set the acceleration (1 = 0.1m/(ss), 2 = 1m/(ss), ... 0 = light
• Press ’UP’ to accelerate.
• Press ’DOWN’ to slow down.
• Key ’+’ zooms into the planet, ’-’ zooms out.
• ’C’ allows to move the camera independently from the aircraft model (look
• ’R’ resets the camera if it was freely moved with ’C’.

Also pres M to display Airplane Jet Model.

Spore: General / Games with Wrap Arround Maps (spherical/planet like)
« on: July 26, 2007, 11:14:17 am »
I was wondering what kind of games you guys have played that were like Spore's wrap around maps or miniature planets. If you can post the name and maybe a link with pictures and a demo or website were we can buy it that would be cool.

Populous: The Beginning
This game has wrap around maps which are miniature planets like the once from Spore, its kind of an RTS/Sim
You control ships and tribal people, and build huts/ houses, and you can build up your army. You can also terraform the planet with spells and stuff. The graphics are good , considering this game is old.

Here is a demo of it with some pictures:

Ant World
"Concept of the game:
There are two ant populations on antworld (played by two players over network). Every population has got some ants and an antqueen. you can direct the antqueen directly by clicking somewhere on the sphere (but it is very slow). The ants you can't direct. You can draw antstreets with the mouse and the ants will walk on these streets. If they are near of an enemy, they will attack it. (you cannot give them any commands - you must choose your streets whisely). The antqueen gives additional strength to the own ants which are near of it - but it can't fight itself. You win the game, if you manage to kill the enemy antqueen.
There are growing some fruits on antworld. If the antqueen eats these fruits, it lays an egg and after some time there comes a new ant out of the egg.

In this game you can generate a procedural planet with some options, but the game play does not seem to work yet.

Spore: General / Spore Mods
« on: March 28, 2007, 07:10:36 pm »
Anyone here planning on modding Spore?

Well i know they give you editors for everything, but I'm talking about making stuff that might not be possible in the game. For example lets say they restrict you from creating a planet the size of earth. That's were modding comes in. How about the ability of drawing out and naming your constellations? I see a lot of opportunity for Spore's Engine, specially in the FPS genre. Imagine if you will a mod that features first person shooter action on a galactic scale with real sized planets and star systems and the ability to drive around every car you can ever build with different kinds of handling.
Well for one i am going to mod the heck out of this game after I'm done playing it, which will probably be in 12 to 17 months.
Anyone else planning on making mods for this game?

In your personal experience which online shop tends to send games before their release date?
Or if they all do, which does it the most?

I'm located in the USA and getting STALKER by the way.

Spore: General / How did you hear about Spore?
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:29:12 pm »
I first heard about Spore as an Animated Flash Ad in a website. The Ad featured a small rotating planet with some words fading in and out. I dint really care for it much and dint click on the ad. Then I actually found out what it was about a few weeks later when i was watching The Colbert Report. And i was "hmm.. that seems real interesting." I dint even know who Will Wright was until i saw this show, since i don't really like the Sims. I played the Sims years ago for a few days. I must have missed the part were he said when the game was going to be out because i was trying to look for the game on all online stores so that i could buy it, but no luck. I then watched some videos of spore online and i was like "OMG I NEED TO GO GET THIS GAME!" SO i jumped on my car and went to my local Fry's Electronics store, to see if they had the game there, but no. I went to 2 other stores after that before i got home. Then i found out it was not going to be out until several months later. Then i was like "Damn.. i shouldn't have heard about this game until after 2007..."
