TV / The Patty Winters Show
« on: August 26, 2011, 07:22:43 am »
Talking animals were the topic of this morning’s Patty Winters Show. An octopus was floating in a makeshift aquarium with a microphone attached to one of its tentacles and it kept asking - or so its “trainer,” who is positive that mollusks have vocal cords, assured us - for “cheese.” I watched, vaguely transfixed, until I started to sob.

I wandered into barnes and noble the other day and left with a nook. It cost $130 with tax, and it's already paid itself off. I've been reading a lot of public domain stuff, which is alright if you find something good. Turns out Portrait of the Artist is not for me.

The advantage of the nook is that it's slightly cheaper, has in-store B&N promotions (free book fridays, read free in store, etc), allows you to get library books on it, and has much lower DRM protection.

The only advantage that I can see for the kindle is that their bookstore is a bit cheaper on most items.

By computer i mean laptop. and by laptop i mean it has an integrated video card. Gaming PC could be on the horizon by november, but it's doubtful. Thanks for the advice though, i'll check into it if i do get an actual computer.

And I know this is ridiculously off-topic, but does anyone want to play RDR? I'm desperate to play with actual people instead of savages, and it's a triple xp weekend. Link to the topic here.

Necrobump double post  :o

Does anybody want to get a free roam game going? Please god tell me yes, i've been having a lot of fun with my friend online but it sucks with just the two of us. And playing with other people is completely out of the question. I entered the "friendly" game mode, thinking it would be a bunch of like-minded people who wanted to do gang hide-outs, and those savages found a way to suck all the fun out.

So, my plea is that there are a couple people on this board willing to play some 360 RDR with me  ;D

EDIT: Gamertag is rook218 and i'm free most of the day tomorrow and all day every day thereafter.

Will Skyrim be in 1080i for the Xbox 360?

I know, I should have it for a computer, but this computer's going on five years old and doesn't have a video card good enough to even run Victoria II   :-\

I'm with pat... The main reason I can't bring myself to choose anything but mage is because the combat is so shoddy. It boils down to just swinging a weapon wildly while the guy you're fighting moves randomly to try to block you. Never really appealed to me. Even if they had an option for auto-aiming or locking on to opponents for noobs like me, the combat would be so much smoother and so much better.

Speaking personally, I think the combat should be about how good my character has gotten, but the way it is now it seems that 80% of the combat is just hoping that I, the player, can land a blow.

Yeah definitely a good movie, well worth the price anyway. the only thing that disappointed me was my one friend who was super psyched for it, he told me that it was supposed to be comparable to the Dark Knight. That set my expectations way too high, but even with that it was very good

It looks like we're getting to a point where animated movies are surpassing live action movies for how good they look (depending on preference and type of movie, of course). Hopefully 3d animated movies won't be just for kids anymore.

Wow thanks a lot guys! I'd completely forgotten that I asked for it. It amazes me how tight this community still is. Even after five years people still tried to find it, and it eventually turned up! Sorry about not coming by as much lately (and by that I mean not at all) but I've slowly lost interest in video game news and picked up a lot of extra projects, along with being a full time student. Anyway, thanks a lot for finding this! I can't imagine that any other online community would put forth the effort for someone who hasn't shown up in a few years. :-*

Iron Grip: Warlord. Also fun, but none of my friends (i.e. you) have it.

I got this game with some steam indy pack, played it for about an hour but really didn't get it. would anyone be interested in setting up a match?

i was kind of disappointed. the action wasn't very well done IMHO, and there wasn't enough of it. they tried to give it a plot, which took up time that i think would have been better utilized to have more action. nobody in that theater was expecting a good story, and they wasted a lot of time trying to give us one and coming up short.

in all, the action that was there was alright, but the plot and dialog were beyond laughable and took up too much time. i know the dialog was supposed to be corny, but this was just too much. i guess that's what happens when you let stallone direct a movie.

I'd give it a B / B-
