The idea of "Monkeys with guns" doesn't work to well if the monkeys aren't advanced enough to use guns...

I am truly saddened by the news of no more water creatures. But, there is hope. As it is an EA game, there will no doubt be umpteen expansion packs.

Nereid Sonic "Discomforter"

Using a series of sound emitters and light emitters, this device propels sonic waves at a target. Swiftly, and forcibly damaging the target. This weapon was created mostly for Under-water combat, has decent usage ability, and next to no capabilitys in the vacuum.

Effects range from how high the intensity is set. Lower settings may induce vomiting, light headed feeling, and general "ick" feeling.
Medium setting my induce very severe nausea, painful vomiting, loss of consciensness, and sever discomfort.
High settings are generally deadly, efects may include: Internal bleeding, organ ruptures, incredible pain, skeletal fractures, and/or (as no doubt the creator of this device thought it would be a cruel joke ) *ahem* reproductive combustion.

At this point, the Nereids, there hired mercenaries, and their genetic "abominations", more lovingly called "Manticore", have access to this weapon, but, if any civilization that works for what could be described as "good" in the Nereids eyes would be allowed to "borrow" such weapons.

Waste the best years of my life rotting my eyeballs out of my head and sitting on my lazy bum.
