* As far as the Kshonix are concerned, they are one. This is true, technically. The more of them they are, the smarter they are.
The Kshonix are a disease. An strain in biological warfare which wiped out two sentient species in 3 human weeks. The Kshonix are nothing but a viral hivemind. They can "connect" to each other like neurons in order to hijack host creatures to control and travel in the open (Including a vacuum).
The convert any from of genetic data for to their sole purpose of existing, and are capable of creating a genetic memory, consisting of a strand of modified protiens that can be translated by the Kshonix into "memories" these protiens are made from several elements and can be switched from host to host freely. Both of their home worlds are "Farms". The sole purpose of their existance is to exist by finding new life and breeding new hosts. Through selective breeding, they have turned the wildlife into vehicular slaves, bred to do whatever task is needed of them.
All technology is made from specifically bred versions of wildlife. All ships, submarines and boats are bred from fish and aquatic animals, most ammunition is made from poison stingers, parasitic eggs or acidic compounds launched from their guns, buildings are usually made from altered fauna and scientific eqiupment are breeds of small animal with enhanced sensory implements.
