Oh, I did give the new update a try.
It changed some features around. I think they're taking steps in the right direction.
If you're still curious about the game, you should go for it. I felt a little unfulfilled but plenty of other people enjoy the game well enough.
I'm a little more hardcore than these folks I think. Obviously, I didn't go in expecting Dwarf Fortress level of complexity but it still fell a little short of what I can only maintain is my standard.

More to the point, I figure if they had several more of these updates, we just might have something half-decent.
At the current point in time, the only reason you'd go a full round is to get a highscore and brag about it, maybe even tell some stories. But what good is that to me when I'm very certain that my experience isn't unique enough for me to bother sharing it? Does anyone care about my highscore? I doubt my having 2439 points matters to you.
Man, I keep trying to conclude but I keep diving right back in.
In any case, the updates sound good, but they don't actually add a lot.
I guess I don't feel it's my place to make a 100-point list of suggestions for these guys. The extent of changes I would necessarily make would turn it into something completely different, and that wouldn't be quite fair to all the people who enjoy it as it is already.
That's about all.
