The generic fantasy green babe in under-wear to the top left is making me suspicious that this will be like every other Generic Fantasy RPG ever.

So it's an RTS with minor RPG elements? Interesting.

Heyyyy.
This looks like fun.

Sounds vaguely like Dwarf Fortress in some ways.

EDIT: 20 bucks on Steam. Forum post dated on the 26th says they expect to go gold "early next week".

EDIT2: Damn it, does this ever sound cool.
Quote from: Beta Tester
I had a wonderful heroic encounter last night that I wanted to share.

About 2/3 of the way through an Easy / Long mission - playing a dwarf warrior, and I hadn't found fresh water yet. My potion count, while decent (think I had 10) had no way of replenishing it.

Finally as a blind stab (I was playing All resources On, but not visible), I found the well guarded by skeletons. Far too many skull and crossbones for my level, and the little red bar on the map site was all the way up. My party was myself (level 9 - sword and board defender), an Acolyte (still level 1) and a level 7 hunter with a bow.

I knew I was in trouble when I needed to get within range of one of the monsters to actually identify what the site was, and the level 11 zombie was none to happy to see me...

I pull them out one at a time, taking a long time to kill them, but surviving and healing up between pulls... until the last two that seemed to be standing on top of each other and not moving...so I knew they would both be coming together. A level 11 skeleton and a level 13 Fallen Hero ! Deciding that I need some more firepower - I head back to town and grab the highest level towns-person I could find.. a level 4 rancher. Drafted him into service as a caster with a wand, the second best shield I could find, plate armor, and a + attack misc item and set off back to my doom.

My goal was to gun down the level 11 as quickly as possible while enduring the punishment from the Fallen hero - but of course it didn't turn out like that. My caster was happy to assist me with the Skeleton, while the archer decided he could take the Fallen Hero by himself... needless to say he got out of there by the skin of his teeth (fled) - while I kept pounding away on the Skeleton... the Hero took off after the fleeing archer, which gave me and my Rancher time to finish off the skeleton and await the return of the Fallen Hero. My Acolyte's arms must have been falling off from casting so much.... Incoming Hero....

....Who Immediately runs over and 1 shots the rancher... () he dropped like a ton of bricks, and nothing in my power could have stopped it. An EPIC battle ensues - my healer doing his best, and me supplementing his regeneration with Health pots for a 4 minute (!) slugfest which I barely won. Little more than a sliver of life left, and 1 health potion left in the bag.

Reward:
a 10 attack (very fast) 1h sword, a set of 8 AC magical plate armor, A crystal Ball, 45 gold, and A CHEST full of all sorts of other goodies.... Almost doubling my attack power while simultaneously more than doubling my defense, and giving 2 of my followers weapon upgrades as well.

Oh - and access to the well to boot.

So i guess this game was just released on steam. I might get it if a lot of people say good things about it. Its only $20 and it looks like the developers are pretty nice guys (love it when devs post regularly on forums).

Will get as soon as I can.
I'll post a little review probably.

The game is good fun, very simple game, but it does have some ugly bugs, my game will freeze anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds every 10 or so minutes, and after the new patch herbs seem to be extinct, I have conquered 3 herb fields but it still say I have no herbs, maybe when they fix the game it will be worth playing   :-\

I just hope they're willing to add some stuff along the way.
It's rather.. lite.
Fun, but lite.

Now herbs are working in my new game, very odd.
Yeah the game is lite, but it really is fun though, it reminds me of pirates and railroads in the sense that a game is short and sweet, in railroads you could build your empire and win in just a few hours, same with pirates, and it has that randomness to it like railroads, Im happy with it even though the graphics are kinda 2D, 3 cheers for indy developers :)

I'm a bit on the fence about buying this game, so I was wondering: How is it? Is it still fun after playing it a few times?

I only managed to play through twice.
The second game seemed unnecessary. In the first round alone, I had completely taken in the entire game's experience.

Some heavy expansion is needed here, I think.
Or maybe it's meant to appeal to people who like lite stuff like this. It probably is.
I'd sooner play Dwarf Fortress. Much greater sense of accomplishment.

With this, I felt like I wasted 20 bucks.
Sorry to say that. It's just how I feel. It's simply not very fulfilling or satisfying.  :-\

On a completely different note, how safe is Steam when it comes to purchasing things? My brother ran his mouth off about how steam is untrustworthy, and my mother believed him on the spot.

I need some way to persuade her other wise.

I'd say it's completely safe. Unless you have loads of viruses on your computer, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Steam itself seems pretty solid for your security.
I've purchased a couple of things myself already. No complaints there.

It's an excellent service, and I hope it continues to grow.

I might buy this if it goes under 20$ like the whole fact its like dwarf fortress lite, hella better graphics then dwarf fortress but less depth which is sorta fine with me

Is there any way to buy stuff on Steam without using a credit card? Or paypal?

I bought one of those pre-paid credit cards to get Audiosurf.

Thanks for your opinion, Gauph :)
Did you play with or without the new update, that added the Dwarf Warrior and Elf Archer among other things?

Oh, I did give the new update a try.
It changed some features around. I think they're taking steps in the right direction.

If you're still curious about the game, you should go for it. I felt a little unfulfilled but plenty of other people enjoy the game well enough.
I'm a little more hardcore than these folks I think. Obviously, I didn't go in expecting Dwarf Fortress level of complexity but it still fell a little short of what I can only maintain is my standard.  :P

More to the point, I figure if they had several more of these updates, we just might have something half-decent.
At the current point in time, the only reason you'd go a full round is to get a highscore and brag about it, maybe even tell some stories. But what good is that to me when I'm very certain that my experience isn't unique enough for me to bother sharing it? Does anyone care about my highscore? I doubt my having 2439 points matters to you.

Man, I keep trying to conclude but I keep diving right back in.
In any case, the updates sound good, but they don't actually add a lot.
I guess I don't feel it's my place to make a 100-point list of suggestions for these guys. The extent of changes I would necessarily make would turn it into something completely different, and that wouldn't be quite fair to all the people who enjoy it as it is already.

That's about all.  :)

Thank you for that, i was planning to buy it but i was going on your word that is a very un-depth.. not deep?... shallow? game. If you are a type a person (Gauphastus) to go extreme dwarf fortress then i think this game might be for me but i will wait a bit for some more updates with the game before i start buying the game and telling stories about it with my friends.

It receives a solid meh.
