and pedestrians need to stop jaywalking
i see children doing it now too it's stupid

Not jaywalking in Stockholm is like breaking some ancient tradition. If you don't jaywalk you're not Swedish.
If you stop and think about it, Your life's longer as an old guy than a kid. Scary o.o

yeah the concept of jaywalking is so weird to me

Not saying it's a particularly American thing, I understand it's also illegal in Germany?

That said, as Tesla seems to be pointed out, your stories are not doing much to dispell the idea that America has an above average percentage of astoundingly stupid people.

Nah, this is just a yankee problem.  Most of the country doesn't walk anywhere.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Pat I think possibly the people that wanted sidewalks built are not the same people now not walking on them :P

It is simple logic. Given the choice between streets and sidewalks, you walk on the sidewalk. The only possible exception I will entertain is someone with a road bike, since the seams in sidewalks can mess up their wheels; however, even then there is a whole subset of the community that doesn't want to live.

It is illegal in the States, but not enforced. Which means cops will then enforce the law based on how they are feeling. :|

You probably don't know the answer, but any idea why they'd walk on the street instead of the sidewalk?  Too narrow for them all to walk in a row?

I just arrived to Copenhagen, Denmark today, and on some of the streets it's really hard to tell where the sidewalk ends and the road starts. I actually thought I was on a walk-only street because it was all paved like the sidewalk, but turns out there were cars driving there as well.

This mistake would not happen in the States, generally. The road and the sidewalk are usually very distinct, with them being made from different colored materials and usually separated from the road by a raised curb or some sort of small grass strip.

You probably don't know the answer, but any idea why they'd walk on the street instead of the sidewalk?  Too narrow for them all to walk in a row?

I suspect they walk on the road so that they can walk in a line, but then again, most of the people I see doing this are in pairs. You can fit two people on a sidewalk next to one another, and if you can't you can stagger your positions slightly to still allow for good communication.

Urrgh, I ****ing hate this stupid study trip I am on. I haven't eaten, I haven't slept, and I have a bunch of boring lectures to attend to. I am staying in the same room with complete strangers, and right now I want to strangle them all.

I have filed form 129-a: Request to deliver one (1) hug to Finland.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.
