As much as I'd like to stumble across somebody's Trogdor, the fun wouldn't last if I get eaten every 10 seconds.  Or if my planet is overrun with dodos it might be too easy to be fun.

You wouldn't get eaten every 10 seconds.  You'd get burninated.

must remember not to make thatched roof cottages when I get to tribal stage.

But the megalodon wasn't the  fiercest predator of all time it was either the basilosaurus (an ancient carnivorous whale the size of a bluewhale).Or some weird reptile thingy who's name i forgot.

But i think it's stupid we won't always be the top of the foodchain if i want ny deadly flying monkey fiends of d00m to be on the top, they're gonna damn well be on the top.

i wasn't asking what the fiercest predator of all time was!
I was just saying that if i create "Hell On Fins" I want noteriety.
If somthing kills off half my population i want a name to yell out in anger!

That and I just thought the Megalodon looked like an uber death shark from hell kindof thing.

The idea is to mix one ingredient that will burn very fast with a second ingredient that will supply enough oxygen for that burning. This burns so fast, it's an explosion.

It was said many times that the database would not pick out any uber-things unless your ecosystem is nearly overrun by herbivores. And even then it would not pick out one dominant carnivore, it would pick several different weaker species.
Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

I think it would be fun to name them the way they do prehisotic animals like dinosaurs, by giving them latin names. :) Course i would have to get a latin dictonary to find out what means what.

thats not a bad idea
instead of one Megalodon the computer picks a hammer head, a maco, and a great white.

I know that you prolly can't name individual creatures (beyond your imagination), but, can you nme your species? So, if other players encounter your creatures, they will see that they are called, say... 'Willosaurs', or somthing. In-game naming of my creations would certainly give me more of a feeling of ownership and connection to my critters.
im really betting you can, i mean in other sim games, you could pretty much name everything you made. so why would they take that away from us now? besides..who wants to go through the trouble of writing down made up names for the creatures they encounter from other players? id much rather know when i see it what is has been called. This brings up another poitn...i think the screen is meant to have more then just your window of survial bars..im sure when your mouse goes over something itll have a name screen or something...i think they just hid alot of the other menus and windows form us, or either chose not to make them pop up in the video.

New thoughts

are we going to be able to edit creatures downloaded to our system?
if so, will i get something like: "Insert Name Here) creature/ Golgrig's version"?

HMMM! Well he did say you could sorta hybrid other races...opening the editor..which implies new creatures! possibly new names! itd actually be kinda cool stumbling upon a race that has been bred with mine. id have to destroy the poor sacraligious animals, but thats my races beliefs.
EDIT:CURSES to my double posts!! y'know, maybe i just shjouldnt stay up so late...i mean cripes my double posts were 10 minutes apart! i dont know that ive double posted until the end of the forum lol...so im sorry. but as you can see, the topics i did reply too were on diff pages and my thoughts were quite spaced...and i really would rather not bother going to the end of the forum each time i post..and having to wait for someone to post something.

I dont see why the game couldnt have the option of procedurally generated latinised names depending on the parts/size/skin/etc you determine for it. so the game would come up withá 'catchy' 'scientific' names for the creature you make in bad latin

The willosaurus could be: viridi-triocula-tricrus cauda-manusidae (green three-eyed three-legged tail-hand)

(not bad for 5 minutes work with a highly abridged latin dictionary) :)
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.
