I just picked up a Gamecube game called Amazing Island.  I didn't have high hopes, but rentals are pretty cheap so I gave it a shot.

Anyway, I got pleasantly surprised by the creature editor it contained.  Impossible to play it without thinking of Spore.  The first time you make a creature it does most of it for you, but you unlock more and more stuff as you play.  Basically, you pick a skeleton, then draw the body onto the skeleton similar to how I think Magic Pengel works, add in accessories such as eyes, beaks, wings, wherever you want, pick from preset coloring and patterns , pick a voice and boom you have a creature.  The gameplay isn't terribly compelling, though.  Basically you just take your creature through a bunch of Mario Party-style minigames.  Some of the mini-games were pretty interesting.  Reminds me a little of Wario Ware and Mario Party, where the challenge at first is just to see what you're supposed to do.

Making the creature is the really fun part.  I think it has some kind of multiplayer too, which I'll try out tonight.
I'd definitely say it's worth renting for anybody interested in the evolution portion of Spore.  I plan to play it quite a bit until it's due back Friday  :)
Use those talents you have. You will make it. You will give joy to the world. Take this tip from nature: The woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang except those who sang best.

mazing Island is pretty fun, but the simgle player game is extremely short. Excluding the creature making thing.
Yeah, [Kishmond] came back from Africa, but the ponies have him now.

Well...I'd hate to remind everyone, but Spore won't be coming out till Spring of next Year.  Although I am psyched about this game right now, I know it can't last for so long.  During these dry spells with no updates on the game, many people will eventually lose steam and Spore will not be able to keep our attention.  I say this because I wonder;  What do you all plan to do to pass the time until Spore is released?  I plan to;

1. Buy HL2: EP 1 and beat it so many times
2. Reach Master Sgt. in BF2
3. Maybe buy Hitman: Blood Money if i have the money
4. Learn guitar from my friend
5. Run
6. Work at my job
7. Make Creatures here :)
8. Suck up every bit of info released about Spore

Sorry to change the subject of the thread, but it's a bit of a dilemma isn't it.  To start a new thread or necrobump?

If you start a new thread people complain that you should have searched.
If you necrobump, people complain that you necrobumped.

I don't know which is right or wrong, just pointing out the dilemma.  But in my view if the topic has been dead for a year, it's ok to start a new thread.

Now back on topic...
While waiting I have played some of the Sims (original Sims, not Sims 2), got all the the Sims expansions but haven't played with all of them.  I've also tried playing WoW from time to time, but have some trouble getting into it.

That's my point.  See my post in the other "Passing the Time" thread.  Hydro apologised for this necrobump, presumably to prevent people from complaining that he had to necrobump (I'm not saying that he did anything wrong, just pointing out that he felt the need to apologise).  The OP of the other passing the time thread started a fresh thread, and people complained that he didn't search.

This highlights the dilemma... To start a new thread or the necrobump?  People seem to complain in both cases.

I guess I didn't search this topic then...I may have searched something right before making this and got confused.  SimEarth Freak is right though, its not like that previous thread was alive since it did start and end more than a year ago and wouldn't be revived until you necro'ed it.  I just figured I'd make one because the E3 info is dying down.  I didnt mean for you to get your panties in a bunch about it, I just thought it'd be a fun topic to talk about that has to do with outside Spore.

It is a little funny that the two threads have the EXACT same name  :D

If I knew it was there, I'd probably have just breathed some life into it.

Personally I think it's better to start a new thread.  I got tired very quickly of reading year-old posts that were so badly outdated and worthless.  I only reply to threads anyway, but I myself never look beyond the first page.    :P

On topic...  I've been playing Diablo2 and CivIII, although I was doing that before I learned of Spore, too.  Other than that, I watch the GDC'05 and E3 videos once every couple of days.

Oh, back off topic, saw your video on Google the other day, Hydromancerx, very spiffy.   ;D
