My 4-4-05 Trip to EA
« on: April 04, 2005, 08:50:24 pm »
So today my class got to visit EA for a tour and to see some concept art for upcoming projects. As neat as that was, one of the coolest parts was meeting one of the executives from this EA branch (in Redwood City). Basically he mentioned Spore (but not by name) and he mentioned feathers!

To paraphrase what he said: We have a new game Will Wright's working on that not only uses procedural animation, but the players can actually create the designs of their character. They can design the skin and feathers and such.

Of course, this isn't word-for-word, and being that EA has about 46 different games in development at the moment, I can imagine him being somewhat inaccurate. Still, for all those flight hopefuls, this is good news. ;D

Very cool piece of espionage even if the enemy wasn't guarding the info so cautiously.  One thought about feathers, asked to the ephemereal future: is flight going to be their only use or will there be some sort of heat protection that they afford?  I doubt that weather and temperature are going to play a huge part in this game but if they did, picking skins, feathers, armour, scales, etc should have interesting consequences.  Just an idea. -leeman

No, sadly I'm not. But I wish I were... especially if I looked like my avatar. No-one suspects weird old people. ;D

Keep in mind that, from what I heard, it also sounds like players can design the colors and skins of their characters. I just noticed that now too. :P

Zealousy's done good, but EA executives aren't known for their accuracy... or even their honesty. Take it with a grain of salt.

You're asking someone who appears to have not been active for quite a lot of time Hydro.

I believe he is aware of this.

However Zealousy had one spanking good avatar. My own feels inadequate in comparison. :D

My dad works with someone who knows someone who works in EA, so he somehow got me a tour of the EA building. I went in October of 2006, and it was really interesting. I didn't ask about Spore though (I hadn't known that much about Spore at that time) and no one mentioned anything about it. I did, however, get to pick a free game. I chose Burnout 3.  :)

I KNEW THEY WERE GIVING FREE GAMES. I always had that strong suspicion that the people from gamestop are stealing games...they know about EVERY single game out there and play it as soon as it gets out. How much does a video game clerk get paid anyway?
