So we talked about this at work. It was myself, my female SJW co-worker, and a third male coworker that is nu-gamer trash.

We all came to an agreement about this issue: Jon said dumb things but we still like Jon, also companies need to stop being dicks to their customers over reasonable requests. lol I don't know what our problem is here. Even the SJW understood and she agreed that new gamers are trash. :U

Celdur, you rock on you cool dude. I agree with what you said.

Now, when I told her that her opinions about Game Grumps are garbage, she got very threatening, which I love. She likes new GG over old GG. CRAZY, RIGHT?

"Whose fault you think that is?"

His? For not considering his sources or the larger context of the beliefs he's co-opting

People are more than allowed to talk about it I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Well sure, it's partly his fault, but I disagree that you can openly talk about the kind of statistics he was talking about.
Go ahead and get on twitter and just post the usual black crime statistics, with no other context, and people will jump to conclusions about your stance on those things. Because the only people talking about those usually are the racists, Yet they are still true statistics.

Anyway, god damnit, can a mod move these last few posts to the politics thread or something? this is really out of place here.

I never unsubbed from Game Grumps when Jon left, I continued watching for a while but gradually lost interest because it's not nearly as good.

But when I saw they were playing Breath of the Wild I decided to check it out, and the first ten seconds of the first episode were what finally pushed me to unsubscribe. Check it out:

Well it seems like the whole concept of Let's Plays has shifted into the "kids and teenagers" demographic. Kids and teens love them some SILLY VOICES BLOOT BLOOP BLOOT VAGINA.

It's all Public Relations.  The Yooka-Laylee people feared backlash from Jon's political flailings more than the backlash of kicking him off the project.  Was it the right call?  Hell if I know.

These kinds of discussions on Twitter, or a Twitch/Youtube "debate" isn't just talking through an issue to get a better understanding.  It's putting yourself out there for the entire world to critique.  And when you're a public figure like Jon, arguing in public about controversial issues you don't have a good understanding of is a really easy way to damage your image.  It's one thing to talk extemporaneous crap about videogames, it's very different to do so about race issues.

Didn't watch the actual debate video, not going to, you can't make me.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Haaah okay.

I agree with your assessment, Ink. And ultimately the company are allowed to do as they see fit at this point; however, it was incredibly stupid of them to allow these moderators or PR personnel to behave with such impropriety toward customers. If people want to boycott, they have every right. These guys need to recognize that they can't go into "troll mode" or whatever when you're repping a company, especially when most of the threads that actually got "official" responses were written in well-meaning, polite ways.

Check it out:

Sometimes I think I should stream my games. Other times I think "this is exactly the thought those losers on YouTube had at one point."

Good point, I haven't really looked at the company's behavior either.  No idea how the game people handled it or if people wanting money back from a kickstarter that's about to ship have anything to stand on asking for money back this late.

Yook-Look reviews are in. They're a bit lookwarm.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/63emql/yookalaylee_review_thread/

And I never know where Jim Sterling is coming from with his reviews. Probably why most people just ignore him.

The long and short seems to be:

-if you could play BK today and love it, you'll love YL.
-if you played BK today and felt it was meh and old, you'll probably feel the same about YL.
-if you were expecting YL to be a reinvention of the genre or otherwise advance it forward in meaningful ways, you'll probably want to keep waiting for someone to make that game.

Looking forward to trying it out though. Seems like I'm the type that will enjoy it the most.
