Sci-Fi Creature Concept (Help)
« on: November 02, 2006, 06:17:22 pm »
In my Writing class, we have been given an assignment to write a short story in a sci-fi setting. It has to be 10 pages long and contain 3 unique alien classes (Including Humans). I already have 2/3 but am stuck on the last one. That is when I thought that this board should be able to help. So, I'm hoping to get an idea out of this. We have to turn in a picture and everything. So, will you all help me out? BTW: It needs to be sentient...

So first off, I'd like to get the leg configuration. (Choose 2)

I think a Pentapedal and/or a Heptapedal creature would look really weirdly cool.

Other than radial symmetry which is always a possibility, an even number of limbs would seem the most biologically probable for a sapient creature and easier to write for in terms of fiction because it would be easier to identify with, both author and reader (the anthropomorphic principle comes into play here), though it doesn't have to be 4 limbed; merely bilaterally symmetrical. Of course, this depends on how you classify limbs.

I'm always partial to the three race system.  How about the one human race, then another race that can absorb other lifeforms and mutate it's own DNa by the command of a psionic powered master creature.  The third could be a psioniclly gifted race with immense technological advancment and the ability to teleport full structures?  Wait, this sounds familiar.  Is you teacher a Starcraft fan?

An idea just came into my mind, while I was reading the first post:

A creature which is a plant and lives through photosynthetis. (I know it isn't that creative, but that was my first thought.) ^^
There is, of course, a difference between having a laugh with someone, and having a laugh at their expense
