Memories of Halcyon and the Necrid wars are distant, and it is a time of rare peace in the Galaxy. At the Scion complex, an unlikely band of aliens have discovered that the ancient myth of Arcadia, the beautiful and terribly rich yet deadly planet of legend, may yet be real. They have come into contact with an old but decidedly insane Icthian freighter pilot, who believes he found the apocryphal planet after miscalculating a hyperspace jump. At Scion, he has returned to find a crew who can help him plunder the planet's legendary riches.
Thread rules/summary:
This thread is for individual RP, where players control one member of their race DnD style. Post below describing one individual of your race if you wish to participate (pictures would be helpful, but are not necessary).
The RP will be mostly freeform, but it may help to define some characteristics of your character. To that end, you may post values for the traditional d20 system attributes: Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis and Cha. No stat can exceed 18 or be less than 3, and the total stats should not exceed 75. Odds are these will be used infrequently, but I find it helps people to RP when they know a little more about the characters they are playing with. There are no fixed classes, but if you could make your character good at some particular thing that complements the group, then the other players will undoubtedly appreciate it.
Please remember this is an RP, and we are here to tell a story. You are not all powerful Gods who can call upon an army of troops and the most complex weaponry ever designed, you are a bunch of outcasts and renegades who are mere mortals - perhaps not anything special. The fun in an RP comes from challenge, not the ability to blast the crap out of any problems you come across. Oh, and there will be no magic or psychic powers.
Above all, please make sure the description is extensive - this is the most important thing, the stats are secondary.
After several days or after we have a lot of people joined up, we will close the thread to new characters and start the adventure. I will post a lot more description in the time running up to the start, so keep checking back.
"Hey, look who it is. That old fool Fiske, the freighter pilot - what's he doing back at Scion?" The two Icthian smugglers swimming in the water-filled bar looked out through the clear plastic of the window onto the walkway beyond. Down on the main promenade, an old model Icthian exo-suit scuttled clumsily along - distinctive in that it was painted a bright red.
"I thought we chased him out last time he was here. Didn't he try to square up to that Torpal trader, accused it of ripping him off? He's utterly mad. Didn't we make it clear that he's not welcome here?" The other replied slowly, opening a bottle of fluid into the current so that it flowed over his gills.
They swam and watched as the suit noisily stumbled onwards. Eventually, the occupant made it to the door at the end which lead to the main food hall; they turned back to the vid-screen which was showing the highlights of one of the latest abyss races.
It wasn't very long before rumours started to cross the complex that some mad pilot was raving about some mythical planet. Few took these rumours particularly seriously, but there were those who knew the legends of old and weren't entirely willing to pass up the opportunity. Those who investigated found a deranged Icthian in a battered red exo-suit telling anyone who would listen that he had found the legendary planet of Arcadia, and that he wanted a crew to head with him to bring back its fabled riches.
In the old stories, Arcadia was a beautiful yet menacing planet. Supposedly covered in jungle and swamp, with monstrous beasts and dangerous plants ready to make short work of any unsuspecting traveller, it was one of the most hostile places in the galaxy. The legends also told, however, of the Arcadians - an ancient race long since died out, who were fabulously rich. Their stores of gold, platinum, precious minerals and extravagant technologies were said to be stored as vast temples to wealth in great caverns in the jungle. No-one seriously believed these stories any more, though, as the planet had never been found.
Ic-Fiske claimed to anyone who questioned him that he was making a routine delivery of water to an outpost world when he mis-entered the coordinates for his hyperspace jump. When he dropped back into real space, he found himself around an unknown planet which neither he nor his computer recognised. Famous for his crazy behaviour and even more notorious for being the only freighter pilot who couldn't get served at the Scion complex bars, some thought that the old Icthian had finally flipped over the edge of sanity.
