Yes yes, I should be working on Demons against Devils….procrastination for the win!

But, I’ve been having this idea swimming around in my head for a while and I decided that I might as well share it, what harm could it do?

Pathetic title I know.



A Voyage Through SPACE!

A Voyage through SPACE! is basically meant to be a Sidereal Hour/Perihelion esque RP, with villain slots and the whole nine yards. I personally thought those rps where very fun and stopped before they truly had a chance to shine. So I thought why not try again? This is basically meant to be an RP for fun, the only reason I'm posting it in the Spore Corner is because people won't hit me here, and that it's kinda based off the galaxy, though of course I expect and encourage liberties to be taken (It's a clean slate thing, don't stick to the lore like glue). Sidereal and Perihelion had us working for corporations, so we could try working that angle, or we could perhaps be a mercenary crew, taking contracts where we could get them, or perhaps even a group of pirates! There are a lot of ways we could work it through.  

In short: A ship, a dysfunctional crew, and an a-hole of a galaxy that likes screwing with us, which we respond to by making things blow up.

Personally, I say we should go with mercenaries, we get the best of both worlds in that case. We could be working for stupid bureaucrats one day, and/or slumming through hives of scum and villainy the next.

I call dibs on ship AI.

An A.I is cool, but if where going mercenaries or pirates, we are probably going to get into plenty of firefights away from the ship, so maybe you should make a second character to go with the away teams and such. By all means you can be the ships A.I, but just make sure you can achieve maximum fun levels.

Also, I'm going with only one character.

Also the controller of the captain is basically who ever the villain of that ark is, where probably not even going to give him a name.

Now to think of a charming ship name... something suitable dark...

Serpents Veil?

Astral Veil? (Kinda like this one...)
The Wanderer?



And one more little tid bit....

For the sake of expanding the possible player base HUMANS ARE ALLOWED! Just don't go to much into Earth or anything, there just another playable race.

Role: Ship AI, controls the ship's automated systems, sensors, and point-defense systems

Bio: Made during a hasty military build-up Earth was conducting in preparation for a war against a hostile alien species, Ozzy's programming was rather rushed, so he doesn't possess much of the usual traits regular AIs have. Emotions, a proper avatar, or even a sense of humor. By the time the war had ended, Ozzy was in survival mode as his missile destroyer was a drifting lifeless wreck orbiting a super-Jupiter sized gas giant. Scavengers soon came along and reprogrammed him to stop obeying only Earth military personnel. He has changed hands often within the black market. He soon appeared on the Astral Veil as it's captain was looking for a new AI as the last one was fried by a EMP weapon during their last job.

Traits/Abilities
: Intelligent, unemotional, answers usually short and to the point, but is capable of small talk

How about we have a cargo-loader walker that was re-fitted for combat and Ozzy programs in a subroutine or automated program to control, or he can control it if the situation calls for it. I'm not too confident about my ability to control multiple characters, but if you insist, I'll make a second one. Also, is there anything wrong with Ozzy's bio?

The Vrin are a mysterious and hostile warrior race living outside of civilized space. Vrin life is dominated by two things: War and religion. With a doctrine stating that combat is the only way for a species to strengthen itself and faith is the only way to remain disciplined and attain the favor of the gods. The clergy and the military are basically one in the same. Vrin frown upon pacifism and coddling, believing that such things are for the weak.

On the upside, the Vrin are rarely a large threat to the inner spheres of civilized space, as their society is mostly ruled by fractious warlords and planetary tyrants. This reduces most of their military activities to isolated raids on border worlds, but every once in a blue moon a charismatic warlord will announce a crusade known as a "God-Calling" a time when all forms of the Vrin, including many of their slaves and converted servants unite to ravage the worlds of the Galactic Senate again and again.

For some reason, Vrin are always encased inside a form of mech armor, some say it's simply standard issue equipment for them, others say their true forms are simply too horrible to look at, while others state that their race is actually rather physically frail and they require the armor to survive on other worlds.

Bio: Valzoroada was raised as every Vrin was: Violently. Having a gravitic shredder blade and a rifle shoved into his hands when he was born, he went through the ritualistic training every Vrin went through during his childhood years until his right to adulthood (Where they basically throw a bunch of Vrin younglings in an arena with many deadly beast, the goal was basically to best the beasts as well your fellow younglings.). Valzor went on to swear his allegiance to a passing warlord and serve in his warband, earning favor with both his deities and his superiors. It would seem that perhaps with time, he would have the chance to enter his warlords inner circle, earning a formidable position of command, however at some point, Valzoroada began to have visions, he would always be vague about what these visions entailed but they all had the same meaning: He must go on a pilgrimage. His superiors respected that the Vrin was apparently being called by the gods to perform a tasks, and so allowed Valzoroada to leave without incident. He has traveled the galaxy since, mostly working as a mercenary for various parties, or wandering significant areas in the galaxy attempting to understand just what he is supposed to be doing on this "pilgrimage". Eventually, his travels had taken him aboard the Astral Veil, where he has found a steady line of work (and fighting) while at the same time travel the galaxy on his pilgrimage.

Traits/Abilities:

Mecha Armor: All Vrin wear some form of mecha armor, few have ever seen what they actually look like. Valzor’s bulky mech armor bears obvious (but not hampering) scars of past's battles, religious knick-knacks and idols, as well as grizzly trophies (skulls, spikes, ect) something he has quiet a passion for.

Psi-sensitivity:  Vrin are a very psi-active race. While Valzoroada himself has no obvious abilities, he does possess a sort of sixth sense about when something is off on a metaphysical level and is also trained to resist psychic probing.



Basically this and combine it with this.

Ok thanks. Also, on a scale of one to ten, with one being extremely soft sci-fi with ten being extremely hard sci-fi, how much theoretical and fictional technologies, relative to modern day tech, is in use in this universe?

Also, my knowledge on what roles AIs have on starships is kinda iffy. I know they control point defenses and most of the time, sensors along with a number of automated systems, like shields (maybe) electronic counter-measures, monitoring life-support and power conduits (another maybe). What kind of systems will Ozzy monitor/control?

Relatively soft, about the same as the normal spore galaxy, there are psychic powers and the like, hyperspace, warp drives. Honestly, we can make it up as we go along.

So I would say somewhere between 4-6.

Hmm, for a small mercenary ship, I'd say, at minimum we need:

A captain
A first officer
An engineer
A handful of specialty soldiers (of which we have a stealth specialist and a mecha type)
A good dozen grunt, non-player for most of them, though a couple probably should be played
A ship AI for fun I guess

So to start, really, all we need is at the very least someone to control the first captain (making sure his story matches up somewhat with LeNig/FeTe/ZuChu's). And, we also need a villain. I could easily do that, for the first arc, multi character control is no stranger to me, what with all the stories I've had to write for classes that have had dozens of characters in them. But I won't do it every time, obviously.

Cause, y'know, I want to get started soon.

Bio: Kar'eese was a Photos soldier who was severely wounded in the Great War with the Zeront, and was placed inside an Artificial Body Unit, or ABU. Despite being 65, due to being inside an ABU for almost 30 years, his mind is still very sharp. He did not stop serving, and over time became a very grizzled veteran before being honorably discharged. He now serves aboard the Astral Veil as an elite soldier, as well as advising the Captain should he seek a second opinion.
Traits/Abilities:
Artificial Body Unit: His ABU makes him almost as a small vehicle, able to soak massive amounts of damage and return it in kind.

Modular Weapons His ABU's modular arm hardpoints allow him to take pretty much any weapon the mission calls for.

Dususan. The Dususan are an aggregate lifeform, each “individual,” or D-ri, contributes to the “whole,” called an Aggregate-person or A-person for short. A whole for the most part thinks and feels that same as other complete forms of life, with the exception that all parts are treated equally. Each A-person is made up at minimum of 25 D-ri, with additional D-ri being used to supplement it with knowledge gained from the “lifetimes” of other A-people. An A-person can shoose which D-ri can get what information, and as such, after and A-person is broken up by whatever means, these specialty D-ri are saught for the knowledge that they contain, and the information is then copied onto another D-ri within an A-person. Sometime, a bit of personality can be imposed onto a D-ri that isn't one of the 25 “core” D-ri. This can sometimes cause personality problems, sometimes resulting in madness that is not immediately manifest. In the older times, Dususan moved around by combining in the same way they do with eachother to an animal, with further D-ri attaching themselves to that, enabling them to be mobile when they otherwise could not be. The D-ri that make her up are in fact stolen from the A-bodies of dead or killed A-people, specifically scientists, philosophers, linguists, mathematicians and anthropologists. Her goals are not all that pretty. The enemy of the Dususan, the Milika, are getting ready to attach the Dususan homeworld in a traditional fashion. However, her goal is to create a small amount of strange matter and release it onto Ju, and the Milika have the necessary research, but they would never use that as a means of warfare. She needs the research to complete her own. The Dususan gopvernment has declared her a renegade, both for this goal and the theft of important D-ri. She has escaped to PanSuiMan/RokNanHal/ShatPaFoo, the TMU planet. To get the research, she has sought the captain of the mercenary ship Astral Veil to infiltrate the Milika Research Station Prngn deep inside wild space.
Traits/Abilities: Extreme intelligence from all the stolen D-ri, flying robotic body


Still not done, I have the ship laid and planned out based on what I have seen of mercenary ships in media, and because I like maps. I also have a couple of pre-arc PMs I need to send out, so you know very, very roughly my plan as it pertains to you. But don't worry, you still are going to have a lot of freedoms.

Role: Electronic Warfare Specialist

Bio: Xaros' earliest memory is of him being discovered by a small group of pirates on a barren planet somewhere in the outer rim. He does not recall how he got there, nor does he even know exactly how long his body has been trapped in the large canister of nanopaste that contained him when he was first found and recovered.

Not knowing anything other than his name, as well as an innately high level of aptitude in the field of electronics, the pirates took him in as one of their own, primarily for his usefulness as a potential electronic warfare specialist.

Two years prior to joining the Astral Veil, Xaros' group had a fierce encounter with local security forces, resulting in massive losses and the eventual disbandment of the organization. The survivors decided to go their separate ways, with Xaros hopping from system to system until finally landing a somewhat stable job under Captain PaNi/LuKa/ShisTan.

Despite having made most of his known life as a pirate, Xaros wields a pleasantly surprising level of refinement in his words and actions. He owes this primarily to the outer rim pirates' greater air of professional compared to the inner rim's, though it might also have something to do with his mostly forgotten past.

Wherever Xaros goes, he carries with him the canister of nanopaste where he was originally discovered in. It is, to his knowledge, the only device that can sustain his continued existence via converting raw materials into additional nanopaste with which to replenish his energy and restock his body's own stores of nanopaste. As such, Xaros' canister is currently integrated with the Astral Veil's crew accommodations.

Traits and Abilities:

General Racial Traits - all traits natural to Devex, but with markedly inferior healing, sleep tolerance, night vision, polarized vision and spectrum vision for someone of his class and species.

Magnetizable - sufficiently strong magnetic field can pull body in when not actively resisting.

Electromagnetic Multitool [Xiraq xhel Xhor : 1/12 Access Code] - one-twelfth of the original Reaper's Scythe. Only retains moderate hacking, decrypting and jamming capabilities. Can be magnetically pulled towards user, if user is a Xiraq.

Not true colors, obviously. And there's a third engine behind the picture I didn't feel like drawing.

The Astral Veil us a ship commanded by Captain PaNi/LuKa/ShisTan, and as such is a combination of TMU design along with input from several other species, acquired through various methods, such as the Milika, Humans, and Xonians. The engines are of TMU military design, whilst the computer is human, the weapons are stolen from the Milika (and given their trading are also indeed Vykusi in origin ultimately), and the hull is Xonian alloys. The personnel themselves are from all over.


Scale:1 square=1 meter

To the right and at the top is the bridge of the ship. On the right of the bridge is the tactical station, and to the left is ops. The rectangle in the very front is the helm, situated underneath a window (the curve). The big room to the left of the corridor behind the bridge is the captains quarters. It, and the quarters across the hall for the #1, are filled with water for the comfort of the TMU who live there. The quarters behind that is the ones for the chief engineer, and the one to the furthest back is the quarters for the Xaros (undesigned because I didn't know what he would have in there).

To the left and one floor down is the engineering deck. To the back are the three stations used to monitor the status of the engines. Outside of that room and in the middle is Ozzy's computer core, with wiring connecting it to the four Atom Breaker turrets. To the front of the ship are the various other stations you can imagine are necessary to maintain, like life support, power distribution, etc.

The next floor down are the crew, soldier, and junior officers' bunks. To the front of the ship is the mess hall. To the right of the ship is the soldier bunks with a room of water for water based lifeforms. In the lower right is where the Vrin mecha is stored. Om the left is the crew and junior officer bunks, and a single room for their employer if (s)he wishes to join them for whatever reason. The bunks are variously sized for the various shapes of the species therein.

The bottom two decks, which are not shown, are the cargo bays and generators. Ozzy's cargo loader is stored down here.

Total length: 30 meters Compliment: 55 crew and soldiers, plus one passenger (Barada-dara).

Yeah, PN/LK/ST stole them off of a few Milika cargo vessels years before, but they're ultimately of Vykusi origin. They look small, but they can vaporize a small ship near instantly. As Ozzy, it will be your job to make sure that they hit, as you're the targeting system.

Also, most of you guys won't be on the ship to start with, the job is so tough the Captain will seek you out where ever you may be when this starts, possibly on your home planets, or maybe some backwater outpost. In retrospect, how about you tell ME where you'll be when this starts (except for you Galactic, we already have you), and then I can make the first post.

Either he's already a crew member at the start, or he's probably job-hunting on a semi-backwater planet or station.

If the latter, maybe it's the same place the captain usually goes to in order to find new recruits, kinda like what Jack does in Tortuga.


As for the quarters, if there isn't a centralized armory, I'm guessing Xaros' room is primarily filled with stuff regularly used by people in his field, as well as a drawer for some clothes and some valuables. His canister pretty much takes the place of his bed.

I guess Valzor's room would be close to his armor, since he almost never goes anywhere without it, It's sorta a combination between Power Armor and Mini Mecha, I'm leaning more towards power armor though.

Also he turns his room into a shrine. Ya.
