An "art" game

I just unearthed my old copy of gamemaker 6, and after some hours of obsessive coding I created the product below.

Basically, this "game" is not much about gameplay rather than exploring concepts, such as vector physics, "planetary" terrain, lighting, and soft camera movement.  I focused on getting a graphics style more than anything.

So, here is the game.  Left/Right is rotating the ship or moving (counter)clockwise about the planet outside the ship, up is jump or thrust, and space is leaving or entering the ship.  You can only do so if the ship has landed and isn't moving.

So, as you can see, it is basically polished but mainly empty.  The idea of this thread is to give suggestions to what I can add that will still fit the style I have tried to convey, such as objects, concepts, sounds, and other music (I just chose a file at random).  In the end, we can create an "art" game.

Trees would be a good addition for an object.  For some reason, Gec's Beyon City would seem like good music.  A booster sound would be a good addition.

For some reason, Gec's Beyon City would seem like good music.

I could change the instruments to 8 bit sounds. That would probably fit better. Though I haven't played this yet since exe files don't work on Macs. I'll have to check it out on another machine when I get the chance.

That was exactly what I was thinking.


I'm contemplating adding water effects, but I don't know if it'll work  :-\

Perhaps I can add some sort of in-game editor, with basic shapes that you can combine to make creatures.

Or, I could just give the user about fifty choices.

Another thing to fix is how the ship can zoom off, but the camera won't follow it.

Um, yeah.  The problem with the ship "zooming off is that it goes outside of the screen.  Perhaps I could make the screen bigger, or something.  There's nothing outside there anyway, however.  Perhaps later there will be.


Right now, I'm working on the water cycle.  Evaporation, condensation, etc...

EDIT:  Btw, how do I download Beyon City?  Quicktime keeps asking me to register or sacrifice animals to it every time I try it.

If you don't want to do anything out of the planet yet, put like a ring around it to keep from getting lost outside, maybe one of those 'passing between horizon' things to end up on the other side. Maybe to contribute to the solution lower the thrust of the ship.

The night part pointed out there should be seperate biospheres on the Green Crater too add more environment to everything too. Really like the little space suit dude.
