They want to censor us from illegal sites things that contain pedophilia i think bomb making. One of the big problems is the government wont be releasing what sites will be covered and can add sites to the filter at will. End of the day it's censorship, we can't know what information they are keeping from us and on top of that the filter will slow down Australia's already lagging internet speeds. Then also it doesn't cover things like p2p file sharing and what not.

So yeah it's a bad idea pretty much everyone in politics is against it the whole thing is unpopular and now they will never get it through the House of reps (lower house), they were never going to get it through the Senate (upper house) either from what I understand. WOnt stop them from wasting everyones time and trying though.

And, at the end of the day, isn't that what politics is all about? Well, that and slush funds.

More seriously, the internet filter is a stupid idea. I have no clue why Australia is so (Lady) gaga for censorship at the moment. First, someone proposes that ridiculous internet censor, then you're making a board that can declare any image of a naked woman with small breasts to be child pornography, regardless of her actual age.

This sounds downright like something straight from a NWO conspiracy theory.

Am I the only person who finds it odd that private corporations are telling the government how to regulate an entirely different group of private corporations?

Because, like, seriously, what?
Not a winner anymore.

Thats not anything new Lurk. The big media conglomerates in USA stopped the development of the Cellphone pretty much because it would eat up part of "There" airwaves. It was not until the concept had been well adapted in Europe that was given a go in USA. USA have since then sort of played catchup to Europe since then. (Though companies like Motorola are actually pretty good at making the hardware. The services in the local net have just been lagging behind a bit.)

That traditional media wants to control the Internet is not that shocking.

Hey, any of you heard about the tea party candidate for US Senate who unseated the incumbent in the Delaware republican primary?  It turns out, she's a huge nerd.

I thought she was comparing the books to the movies, talking about how Peter Jackson changed the characters.

At the very least she's a nerd of some degree.

Personally, I liked The Hobbit more than any of the sequels.

Still annoyed by this poll and the fact that about 50% of voters are retarded.

Actually, Pat, it's only about 49.3% who're retarded, so take heart in that, at least.

Also, I'm curious to see how the media runs with this revelation. Clearly the woman is a nerd. Will this just sort of vanish, or will someone mock her interests to try and make her look stupid?
