Everything Else / Re: Let's be honest; who has a Boy/Girlfriend?
« on: July 29, 2006, 11:39:56 am »
This thread would have done quite well with a poll.

True, very true. But then again I suspect threads like these often arise so people can show off their pretty girlfriends and be envied... and as an attempt to pretend you're not 100% geek and have a life. I know that's what *I* personally do anyway, when by chance I'm in a relationship with a cute girl and active on a forum at the same time =P And for bragging, a poll is not very efficient ;o)
And by the way, you have a very pretty partner Kaze... whichever of the two it might be ???

Easy there champ. No need to get all hostile :)
Last thing I remember was an interview I read after E3 saying that avians had been excluded, but my memory is only human so I may have mixed it up with the hovering cities being denied as an option.
Exoskeleton: Yes, there is a difference. There is for example a difference between a pretty skin of an exoskeleton and something hardcoded -since a full exoskeleton can potentially offer quite a lot of natural armour making it much more resilient to natural weapons and possibly even bullets, not to mention the animation difference between how normal skin/leather and an exoskeleton would move and react, which would be wildly different. I haven't heard anything the details of this kind of implementation, other than having it as a cosmetic thing so I'm still holding my breath to hear about the practical effects of such a natural armour. But then again, I'm not a complete spore encyclopedia... yet.
So if you know otherwise, please do share.

To go back on topic: That's SUCH a shame though. Think of all the wonderous posibilities of poisons.
Not just health damaging, but slowing, paralyzing, mind altering/controlling or sleep inducing - tons of options.
I guess I'll just have to pray for an expansion with new evolutionary options ;)

Probably exactly the same way Games Workshop or any other gaming miniature manufacturer would deal with it.

Good idea, but I doubt they'll do it to be honest.
There would be so many factors to take into consideration, if you review the points raised in the previous debate here. The programming behind making it anything but just a "curious little feature that doesn't really do much in effect" would be staggering, and to be honest I think they have other priorities... such as getting the game out within the next 3 years ;) They just might include it to a very light degree, but as I said it's not likely to be much more than a little flavor without a huge impact.
I like the idea though, definately :) Just like the saltpeter-heavy world, or the environmentalists. But knowing games and game development in general, I have have a sneaking suspicion that we have to be careful how high we set our hopes with regards to such things.

Very cool indeed. I wonder if they're putting some of the creatures in the game that people made at E3 :) I have a sneaking suspecion they just might do that. Like polishing off Robin Williams' atrocity a bit and making it an ultra rare encounter :P

Add the number of May to half of the meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything - and then you have my age.

Pretty much what I was thinking after having read like 5 posts, LadyM =P
But I noticed you managed to dodge the question of the thread quite nicely youself ;0)

I do not have a girlfriend.. or a boyfriend. Or a giraffe.
I have a computer with lots (and lots and lots and lots...) of porn, that's about it =P No good at the relationship thing, it never really works out for me for very long, and it takes ages for me to find a new one. Yay for classical cliche geekyness! =D Yay for me! =D

They are all fakes and copies. Jonathan is the only true name, the rest of them are just versions of it for lazy or illiterate people =P

*Duck and Cover* ;D

A little delayed "hi" from an *old* Spore geek :)
Hey people =)

I've been around this forum and the GS site, listening to the podcast since JUST after GDC last year when I (like everyone else) was blown away by what I read about Wills presentation. This seems like... well... like if someone reached into my head and found my most personal desires for a game and made it real =D and by the look of I'm not exactly alone ;O)
Since I've actually been around for a year and a half I thought it might be about a good time to show my face =P

Name: Jonathan
Aliases: Necrox, Nathan Wolf/Longhair
Age: 26
Nationality/Location: Danish but working in Nottingham
All-time favourite games are titles like: X-COM: Terror From the Deep, Master of Orion II, Caesar III, Heroes of Might and Magic III, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1+2, World of Warcraft, Grim Fandango and Full Throttle.
...and I have a STRONG feeling Spore might edge in there within the next 6 months ;O)
Found Spore: Through an article while bored at work, I believe it was from gamespy.com. After that I googled Spore and sucked up all the info I could get my grubby little hands on - the Gaming Steve forum was one of the first hits on google =)
My first Spore races will: Probably resemble some sort of octopoda or a Lobsterman (if anyone here has played TFTD).
Ultimate Goal: World domination is such a tired cliche, I'd be happy to be able to control my own life =P
Known For: Reading but not writing on forums a lot, and then not knowing when to stop again when he finally gets started. Result = Terribly long posts to say very little >_<

So "hi" all =D
