3D Modelling
« on: July 14, 2011, 01:48:19 pm »
I don't think we have a thread for digitally made 3D stuff, so I decided to make one.

Today we made a skull in 3ds max. I made other 3D models before, but this is by far the best I've ever done.

In the background you can see the reference planes we used to get the proportions right.

Welp, I finished the task for the modeling exam. We had to make a stylized skeleton that could be used for proportions and poses etc.

making a skeleton is very hard. In many ways making a human with skin on is easier. Less small details and all that. I like to see if someone else dare to challenge you ;)

Which program do you prefer doing your modeling in? I've tried using sketup from google but I really don't like it that much my friend was going to teach me how to use 3dsmax but he hasn't gotten around to it as of yet and it seems like it might be a bit much to learn too.

So far I've used only Maya and Max. I've tried using Blender, but the interface is just too crazy for my taste. (Or maybe it's just too different from autodesk products. :V)

Between Maya and Max, I definately prefer Max for modeling. The graphite modeling tools are a very comfortable way to easily access all the different functions to make modling so so SO much easier, while in Maya most functions are hidden behind context menus and you really have to learn all the short cuts to do your work in a reasonable amount of time.

However, I use Maya heavily for animation, but that's mainly, because I was never taught how to use Max for animation. But I have also heard that maya is better for that than Max, so I'm gonna believe that.

He asked what program I prefer, not which one I used.

Working of a image DarkDragon? Models like that tend to be "Drawn over" exiciting pictures. The technique also works well if you doing other types of models.

Welp, I just finished my final exam in 3D Character modeling. This was quite a challenge, and even though I must say I'm not really good with 3D stuff and characters in particular, I'm pretty pleased how this turned out.

Goal was to make a character that's at least 50% human. I took the easy route and made one without legs, without hair, without clothes and without a nose. Heh.

Apparently you (or maybe just I) have to turn off the wacom settings for it to work with a mouse.

You have to link directly to the image (i.e. the URL needs to end in an image file type like .jpg or .png) and put that inside image brackets:

[img.]http://www.image.com/image.jpg[/img] (No period)

Here's an example you can look at by quoting this post.
