I agree this is great news!

Er, but there was a job opening a few months back for a web developer for the Spore website.... wonder why that's been taking so long?

Well, considering he's not going to let the universe go all Ragnarok on us so that we can play Spore more before it all ends, I'd say he should be in control!

Precisely! Also, I will make Spore an olympic sport, along with Gurning and Kick the Idiot. There is no reason not to vote for me, unless you want to be shot and horribly murdered.

i think that they are making the final spore site, the release is comming and it has to be a big community site just like the sims. And at the stage of the site now it isnt a very good one. My theory is that the site is under great construction, think about it: Spore is about sharing your creatures and stuff with other people and you need a community site for it, the sims is not like spore because spore will automatticly download stuff if you allow it, but for that you need a big site(server). Do you understand where i am going to :D i geuss we are closser to a release than we know  :P and Will Wright likes to trick us in bad ways but also very good ways  8)
Well....I was kinda thinking and...Dude....About superpowers....Yours kinda sucks...Sorry Dude

Heh if I was the spore team I would put one copy of spore on top of mount Everest a month before it comes out;) see how many nerds makes it there:P
I can imagine world wide migration of nerds some with laptops under their arms others with coca colas and energy drinks in backpack, killing each other with pacman figures and gadgets just to be the first to touch the game of absolute ultimacy!!!!
If they broad casted it a bunch of non gamers could follow the show and bet money on the nerd they think will win and loose entire life savings! the world will be in ruins! and the last nerd standing will be in the position to rule earth but will probably play spore instead and die as an old very spore happy nerd.

could be interesting:P
Anyway... I'm really looking forward to that game, and I ******* love Will wright and his team of geniuses, I would hug and kiss everyone of them (even though it would be somewhat awkward) if they were here, and then i would offer small animals and children to my new found gods:P ha ha

And I (the smartest :P) will fly over the top in a plane or a helicopter or summat and go YOINK! and all those nerds will be at the top and start cursing in nerd language...actually they probably wouldn't make it anyway.

Meanwhile I'll have copied the game and sent copies to you all, then we realize too late that we only have a single CD KEY (although if they don't set up a system like steam then we should be fine)

Anyway nice idea, I really hope it is close to release. After all, I can feel it in me bones!

remember, nerds are not used to heat or cold, they are only used to their room environment so unless you are a nerd that lives in Siberia and doesn't have an heat system you WILL NOT make it :P

Now they've posted an ad for a Spore Publicist. BTW, someone mentioned the Web Designer position... they advertised that one a long time ago, then took the ad down for many months. They probably hired someone who quit or didn't work out.

Spore Publicist Primary Responsibilities:

- Create and track media coverage calendars

- Coordinate product press mailings, manage product preview and review programs.

- Maintain calendar of editorial deadlines, coverage opportunities, manage speakers calendar

- Develop detailed briefing notes, press tour agendas and conference analysis

- Maintain comprehensive coverage database for internal reporting and analysis, including key quotes

- Prepare daily, weekly and quarterly press clip packages

- Assist in the preparation of and coordination for press tours, press events, press kits, and product mailings for EA products

- Assist with on-site media days and events within studio, including preparing press packets, organizing logistics for interviews and other press appearances

- Write pitch letters and media blasts

- Organize and coordinate collection and distribution of marketing assets (screenshots, game footage, game trailers, etc.) to key press outlets throughout North America.

- Create support materials including fact sheets, FAQs, PR plans, asset timelines, press releases, electronic press kits

- Manage approval process for external communications

- Must have familiarity with communication tools, such as FTP programs, fax machines, media directories, databases and newswires

- Develop and maintain an extensive network of mass media and game trade journalist contacts

- Field media inquiries.

- Be a specialist about EA's and competition's products within the product category.  Serve as franchise spokesperson, assist all media inquiries through timely research and presentation of necessary information.

- Identify opportunities for coverage.  Pitch online, print, and broadcast stories; satellite tours and broll packages. Develop and pitch unique stories on video game features, trends or lifestyle elements.

- Obtain and deliver press feedback to production and marketing partners.

- Conduct regular analysis to measure effectiveness of PR outreach activities. Help marketing team translate learnings into actionable solutions to improve marketing programs and assets

- Develop close and communicative relationship with product marketing and studio partner.

- Attend planning meetings and event/project updates.

- Prepare follow-up communications when needed, including product materials, correspondence, monthly key accomplishment bullets, faxing, clip reports and filing

- Provide post mortem analysis of all PR activities.

- Assist in the preparation for key events such as sales meetings, trade shows, press events, studio visits, press tours and consumer launch events. Attend events as needed.  Some travel required.

- Oversee event management for respective franchises by servicing media on-site at special events, photo shoots, interviews and press conferences.

Most game companies have sub companies that do this for them. I.E. A puplisher, i have a feeling EA is its own publisher, or at least has one that works under them. I would think that since Spore is a EA game, they would publish under EA. Not leaving the job up to a single new person, and to be hiring a publisher for spore after its been finished is damn stupid. Let alone it cant be done by a single person. Either the wanted ad is BS, or its BS what they want the single person for.

All conclusions point to: "EA is evil".

Electronic Arts is definitely it's own publisher. In fact, when it was founded, that's all it was. Now it does everything -- marketing, distribution, publishing and development(thanks to their habit of buying up companies it's published games for). It's actually the largest 3rd-party publisher in the world :)
