Spoted a New Creature in the Spore Video?
« on: November 09, 2005, 10:22:51 pm »
Ok i was watching the GDC-TV Spore Demo video today for the millionth time again and i think i spoted a new creature in the creature mode.

There is of course in the creature mode ...
1. Sea Williosaurus.
2. Glowing Fish thingys
3. Jelly Fish things with eyes at the top.
4. Willosaurus with legs.
5. Monopod hopping guys.
6. Big predator spider thing that gets abducted later.
7. The huge flying dragon thing people have circled in stills.

and ....

A new little flying bug thing that willosaurus walks by after being chased by the giant spider thing. You can see it after he rust past him runing far into land and then right before he turns right pasts some rocks and many of the monopod hopper guys. It is only there for a few seconds but starts out by the rocks and then flies to the tword the camera to the side. You can also see its wing futtering very fast like a bee or humming bird.

Am i going crazy or is this a new creature in the video??  ???

Yes i saw it, and i have good news and bad news. The good news is you're not mad they're there. The bad news is theyre just flys, nothing of any interest and you see them at other points in the video its just this time theyre flying at the camera.

What was interesting i just how much of the bird you see, i hadnt noticed that you see it three or four times in that short space as he's getting out of the water.

Its actually just one of the bugs they haven't worked out of the code yet. (ducks) That is the cool thing about the procedural stuff, bugs are actually manifesting themselves in the program, making them easier to find. There won't be any patches if your creature is evolved enough to eat the bugs. :) :) :)

ha ha, nice joke.

anyway, they seem to be about the size of the willosaurs head I think, I had a hard time pausing it where I wanted it at. but since theres little detail visible (its a black oval shape with wings), its hard to tell if they are just background stuff that games often have or if they are small insectlike flyers that can be created. also, I think I saw one of them (theres actually two or 3 of them at that rock, one flew at the camera while the other one went to the right) as having a tail like a dragonfly.

as far as that condor-like bird, we do see it taking off from the tree (implying we can perch there as flying creatures), and maybe landing back on a tree. We already know we can make flying creatures (that large condor-type bird we kept seeing), so its possible those flys we saw briefly are small flyers.

I can't wait to see how small and huge we can make creatures.
Hundreds of little lobster/birds attakcing the spider that attcked the Willosaur...or maybe just one huge, 20 armed, 4 legged, scythe-weilding, monster cow.

Wow, this makes me realize how long it's been since I was an active user here.

Wright said in one of the intervies that the maximum size is going to be about indian elephant size. There doesnt seem to be a threshhold on minimum size yet but I think it would be hard to implement a game where a civ of gnats can destroy an elephant

I personally think that the flying insect thingies (Not that big flying thingy) is actually the foodsource of the smallest carnivirous creatures you can make. The hopping creatures and the swimming Willosaurus (Before WW makes it a landanimal) are probably the smallest creatures you can make. The insects are just for food.

We'll all just have to wait untill further info is available.

nope, the glowing worm things were the smallest.  you could tell they were a real species (unlike the insects) because they had morphological similarities (to borrow a biology term) to the jellyfish things, and were presumably related.

I also belive you can see it again flying off another set of rocks to the left as he is walking toward the his Willosaurs mate, but after he makes a mating call.

Here are some screenshots from the first time i saw them.

this thread reminds me of this:  http://zapatopi.net/treeoctopus/sightings.html

it's really dispicable that they're endangered.  they probably have the best chance of any animal to replace us when we're gone.

wait, nm, hoax.
