Still recuperating after the Starscream picture...
"It is easier to change the colonist than to change the planet. But in changing our forms, will we forfeit our Keijhality?"
-AnonymousThe Keijha confederacy is a loose collection of various semi-habitable planets, connected only by origin. The culture, the environment, the government, and even the very biology of the citizens are utterly different from one another. Even to get a message from one side of this mess to the other would require a century! For, unlike many empires in the galaxy, the Keijha never discovered FTL travel or communications, and have decided that changing their citizens for an alien world would be more cost-effective than changing the entire planet's atmosphere, mineral content, and amino-acid polarity. (Other techs that they do not have include electromagnetic shields, lazer guns, planet busters, and antigravity (to name a few))
So, naturally, they constructed around 450 machine-intelligences to sort it all out.
In colonizing a planet, one of these "Xiha", as they are called, are sent out to a world within reasonable temperature and pressure standards. On board the ship, there is nothing but Keijha DNA samples, a biometric lab, a colony pack, learning programs, and the computer itself. At arrival, it deploys the colony pack, and sequences the DNA code for maximum symbiosis with the environment. Undesirable elements of the planet, such as certain microorganisms, are eliminated with a few swiftly created viruses from the biometric lab. By the time this process is over, the newborn Keijhalians and the chosen planet shall be perfectly suited for each other.
Through the use of the colony facilities, the Keijhalians shall be brought up in a productive learning environment, and shall learn independence from their machine benefactor. Once the second generation has begun, the colony is established, and it is back to business as usual.
Through these techniques, you can see that the main tools at the hands of the Keijha are on a more local level than most star-faring races, and most of their research is in biology.
The Xiha (Meaning machine) are the only forms of networking and communication. All messages, within and without the colonies, pass through their ears. They regulate interplanetary government, through the use of careful foresight and projection, and send shipments of resources back to the Keijha homeworld.
Sometimes the name of their own species gets modified throughout history, and different titles vary from Kiyak to K'jal.
NOTE ON REBELLIOUS COLONIES:
Religious behaviour toward the Xiha is tolerated, sometimes even condoned by the machines (But never exploited, not after the
Kei-Xiha incident *Shudders*) Some Keijha are even understandably skeptical of the existence of other colonies.
But as soon as the colony becomes expansive, as soon as it starts to try and wage STL war against its neighbor colonies, they are eliminated. Their creator, their benefactor, can release a single triple-string virus that will cause a certain hidden code within their genome to unlock.
You can guess the rest.
