Spore: General / Re: From Spore to Space in 5-7 hours

I for one think it has something to do with what happened with Simcity 4
Wright stated that Maxis is currently attempting to work out a "new direction" for SimCity after new versions had become "steadily more complex".  He ended his comments on SimCity with the following:

SimCity kind of worked itself into a corner, (because) we were still appealing to this core SimCity group. It had gotten a little complicated for people who had never played SimCity. We want to take it back to its roots where somebody who had never heard of SimCity can pick it up and enjoy playing it without thinking it was really, really hard.
It was very complicated for a nonhardcore fan to just pick up and learn, plust the tutorials were not nearly enough. I Hyplotho-guess that wright may be worried that the game would be too complex and long so... he shortened it(?) The "complex" game was very enjoyable once you got the hang of it.
Perhaps Wright feared a repeat and decided not to go that direction?

But if I can breeze through spore in a total of 7 hours then it may not be worth getting

Shure I love peace. Id be mostly peaceful and non- aggressive, but I might provoke some attacks when I abduct their citizens to put on distant planets and see how they fare. See if the computer actually develop a civilization too. Or place them in one of my galactic preserves/zoos  ::)

Spore: General / Re: Will spore live up to its expectations?
« on: May 22, 2006, 02:09:32 pm »
I try to expect only what I have seen for certain. And what I see I like. But I am tying hard not to get carried away with the imagining of what I would do.

I have a feeling that... its impossible to tell. But I always set my expectations low, so it is usual that they are met. As for the game actually being fun to play... we shall see, wont we? Im going to check a lot of reviews of the game and peoples testimonies (though not from here because it seems that many people here have very high expectations that I just cant see as being met)

Im still unsure about the existence of underwater creatures, though the evidence is compelling, I havnt seen any real proof that they are there

I still have a fear that this game will be a major letdown and unfun to play, even though every Maxis game I ever bought was fun (though 2 being letdowns (simcity streets and sim tower)) to me.

But as I understand many of the old maxis staff are gone (when sims was being developed, 40% of Maxis workers ere laid off by EA) so... I guess we’ll see.
