Portable Games / Re: Advance Wars DS gets a 9.2 from GameSpot.
« on: August 25, 2005, 06:35:26 am »
So I went and picked It up. Initial impressions are good, but I'm a little disappointed in the single cart multi. As far as I can tell you can only play combat (the real time mode) on four maps with 4 differnt units to buy with adjustible funds. The problem is the base unit is too cost effective, and the most expencive unit, which for it's price should be a juggernaut, seems weak and is crippled by only being able to shoot far and not close. I've only played with one person however, and strategies that work 1v1 aren't likely to work if say, there are 7 more people playing. I'm curious to see how that would work, as there are only 4 teams. I guess it's either you take turns, or 2 units on a team at once.

Most people think that the real time mode was silly and just an afterthought.  The core of AW has always been the turn based combat.  I am deffinatly picking this up.

Wait a week or two, the price is looking to go down to $129.99.

Whoaho. That is a large drop. It's still 199.99 in every single store in all three cities I've checked around here.
I hope you are right.
If wrong, I hope it at least drops a little bit soon.

And yes, DBCA, the DS does have some interesting games on it. You may find Kirby's Canvas Course (or whatever it's called) interesting. My friend played it, and he really enjoyed it. Then, if you're into Castlevania's exploration type games (like Symphony of the Night), you may look forward to Dawn of Sorrow. It was recently revealed that the extra game (after you beat it correctly) will allow you to play as SotN Alucard, possibly switching between three other characters a la Dracula's Curse (CV III).
Then there's "The New Super Mario Bros." I find this game interesting because it has all the technical points that the 3D games do, like wall jumping, jumping off other character's heads, and probably other things. As well, it is a 2D platformer in 3D I believe. It seems to be multiplayer for two players which would be great fun.

Couple other games I haven't really looked into that are coming out later. I hear there's to be a Harvest Moon but I'm not totally sure.

There are others, but I know about the above more than the rest, since I'm probably going to get those.
I recommend DS. You can get a PSP too if you have the money, I'm not one-sided like almost everyone else seems to be.
...seen far too many internet DS vs. PSP "debates" go straight to hell in the first post...

Wow!  Where do you live and where have you been checking.  I got my DS for $149.99, which I thought was the MSRP.

The origonal "Legend of Zorro" was really good, but the best Zorro movie ever was deffinatly "The Gay Blade".

Wait a week or two, the price is looking to go down to $129.99.

Games are deffinatly getting easier.  This is most likely due to the fact the companies want you to beat the game and go buy more games.  There are few games that I can't beat these days, but back in the NES days I never beat anything.  Well, I did beat Super Mario Brothers 3 and TMNT Arcade.

Deffinatly Mario Kart: Double Dash, its great.  I also like the Mario Party games.

i also wondered about the camcorder thing, and i jumped when you hear the airplane crashing

the ending was downright stupid, that kid should have been killed in whatever explosion happened.

but overall i liked the movie

I have not finished the demo but I really like it.  Its starts off really quick, which is great, much better than the origional.  The begining is kind of like D-Day, its an invasion.  Then you get to a tree top city, which looks to be a central hub for the game.  The graphics are great and it runs smooth as silk on my computer with most of the settings turned on.  Will be the first computer game since Half-Life two that I will play consistantly.  (I have to say it, I really do not like GTA:SA)

Yes, thank you very much Steve.  Not only for the great site, but for the Podcast that saves me from the standard, idiodic shows about video games.  Your the best.

For me, the best begins and ends with....

OK, the NextGen movie with the Borg wasn't bad, either. :)

The low point was probably the one where the original cast was off looking for God... both for a sucktastic script and the fact that they were really showing their ages badly.

You mean Star Trek 5: The Final Fronteir.  I actually liked that movie, a lot more than most people.  Now 3: The Search for Spock.  Now that was a bad movie.

Check your power supply.  How many drives do you have and how many watts do you have?

Viggo all the way, I like him in Hildago too. Orlando is just too young looking as is Leonardo DiCaprio.

My wife totaly agrees, Viggo all the way.  Did not like him in Hildago as much, she likes the beard and long hair.  Also, great with Corben Dallas, I love that movie.  Chris Tukker as Ruby Rode was great to.  "I don't want one position, I want all position!"  Lelu was frinking hot too.

Other actors I like
Iam Mckelllen (Gandalf, LOTR)  "So do all who come to live in such times.  All we can do is to decided what to do with the time that is given us."
David Spade (Kuzco, Emperor's New Groove)  "Winna, Lossa!"
Eartha Kitt (Ysma, Emperor's New Groove) "IT'S DINNER TIME!"
Jodie Foster (Ellie Arroway, Contact)  Can't think of a single line, but she was really good.
Tom Hanks (Every single movie he is in)

Ill buy GTA for PSP only becuase I never ownd a PS2 or X-box....

No computer either?

From what I hear it can be a little demanding for the hardware.

I played GTA 3 on my old rig which had a 950mhz Athlon, 518 mb RAM, and a Geforce 3 Ti 200 and it ran just fine.
