Topic: Dude my internet has been so bad lately.

The one problem of living out in the middle of nowhere is that internet is a bit of an ordeal. No fiber or cable lines yet. So you get the idea. It's all line-of-sight dish/radio/satellite crap.

So when it works it... works? And when it doesn't work you are a caveman. I had the guy out to day and he was beside himself. Having worked that job at a time, I really feel for the technician that can't get blood from a stone. He was saying he's never seen peaks and valleys this bad before on throughput. Furthermore, as a last ditch effort they are going to reboot the ****ing tower. The regional tower. To try to help me.

It's wild how the disparity between rural and non-rural internet has developed. You would think by now there would be fast, reliable internet out here. Makes me miss my 2G phone. :3

It's almost as if rural internet isn't profitable.

Maybe you should see about the local community all pitching in to improve things, like how groups of farms brought a phone line that connected them all together, but they could also call out.

That's not a bad idea. There is definitely a need, though less than years past since I think a lot of people tether via their cell phone now.

But I won't do that because I'm weird. My cell phone is a phone and a paper weight and the less it is used, the better.

To add (I was thinking about this while I was driving a short bit ago) this seems like another one of those "national security" type things. Having that communication to all regions strikes me as really important for coordination and resource gathering; therefore it should not necessarily be a function of its profitability. That said, I am sure in the coming years technology will circumvent this hurdle.

If only the internet was classed as a service like telephone is. You can get a land line phone no matter where you live. Because everyone definitely uses land lines still.

But if we classify internet as a service, how will the internet monopolies survive? Can you imagine a world without Spectrum?
