What about smell/noses? Like in the tribe stage, a creature may smell smoke from a burning hut and come to help put out the flames.

I think it'll be quite a challenge to create something without one of the senses we take for granted.

A creature without sight, for example, would rely most on hearing and smell.

I assume things will balance out somewhat like it did in Evo.  Evolving armour to help defence but losing speed in the process.  Things like that.  I'm very curious to see if there will be any abilities like underwater breathing, flight, poison, increased breeding, etc.  I still love the image of a lizard holding a spear in its tail.  It just sums up everything that interests me about this game.  -leeman

I'm wondering, when you build parts onto your creature, can you define it to "fluff" rather than raw meat. Immagine making a squirrel in the game. That big poofy tail is supposed to be light, despite it's size. However it might not work properly if the game models it as a long apendage made of pure meat.

I'm wondering if you can just add fur to give the appearance of a "fluffy" tail.  I.e. a squirrel's tale isn't that thick (the tail itself and not the fur), and this way you could get the fluffiness (and appropriate texture) without weighing down your creature.  But who knows?

What I really want are tentacles and insect legs as well as pincers. I want to design these creatures from my nightmares that were nothing but legs, tentacles, pincers and eyes sticking out of...something. Man they would drive some awesome tanks!

Perhaps if you upgraded a race's hearing enough, they could develop a form of sonar or echo-location.

So, I'm sitting here watching the little flash animation on the new spore site. (Check it out! Sway!)
And anyway, I noticed the little proto fish had only one eye, then evolved two. That got me thinking, if I slap eyes on the sides of the head,  ala prey, rather than both in front, ala predator, will my creatures act accordingly? Will they cock their heads from side to side to get a look at stuff, like a bird?

It's all procedurally generated, so I wouldn't put it past Will and the guys to make the game do that kinda thing.
