Portable Games / Tetris DS: Friend Codes
« on: May 08, 2006, 01:13:35 pm »
This thread is only for listing your friend code only. Please keep game chatter in the other thread.

Tetris DS is an awsome multi-player game. Even without all the single player awsomeness the online play is just heart pounding. Also unlike some of the other online games, how can you cheat at Tetris? There's no snaking or crazy stuff, just hard core Battle Tetris. One thing to watch out for though are the crazy japanese kids, some of them are better than the level 5 computer. Anyways here's my code, be sure to add me!

I am confused, no one plays Tetris online? This does not compute.

Portable Games / Wi-fi: Check Opponents: err...

I finally got my wi-fi hooked up, but now there's no one to play Mario Kart with *tear*

Music / NESkimos, old school game music + metal = <3
« on: October 02, 2005, 12:14:15 am »

If you haven't heard of these guys I highly suggest you listen to some of their music. They take old game music and redo it with their metal band. They played at PAX, and I've listened to all their songs, they freakin' rock. You may need to sign up on the site to download the songs, but it's free so do it. You can just stream the songs if you'd like to listen to them befor eyou sign up, I highly reccomend Legend of Zelda, The and Cantina of Fear. Your life will be richer!

Portable Games / Porable Games you're playing!
« on: March 22, 2005, 08:49:49 am »
Same as the other topic in PC Games. What are you currently playing?

About a month ago I picked up Pokemon: FireRed and I loved it, sweet naustalgia. That inspired me to give Ruby a try so I'm playing that right now (curse you Groudon!). When this doesn't suite my fancy I'm working my way through FF I & II: Dawn of Souls.

Spore: General / FAQ Suggestions (work in progress)
« on: March 21, 2005, 04:33:10 am »
I give credit to Huasat for starting this, so don't shank me when I put your stuff up here.

Q. Who is devloping Spore?
The game is currently in the hands of Maxis/EA Games.

Q. When will Spore be released?
No release date has been umm...released. So far there is nothing official hinting at any time frame. The game did seem near completion minus a few thing (ie. sound).

Q. Do you require internet to play?
No, although having one would greatly increase the longevity and enjoyment of the game, as it allows you access to all the custom content created by other players. However, as Will Wright stated during the demonstration: "we can include tens of thousands of creatures on the CD for people who don't have internet access."

Q. How does your creature evolve?
The general consensus is by eating. Eating gains you "evolution points" after enough you lay an egg, and can then modify your creature. To what extent you can change your creature is unknown.

Q. Can you make a species of creatures sentient without leaving the water?
No ones sure. This wasn't brought up in the demo so your guesses are fair game. Some poeple have mentioned SimEarth and how life worked in that game.

Q. Can you make a vegetarian creature.
This wasn't brought up in the demo, but I believe it was mentioned you earned evolution points when you ate food.

Q. Can you create a [insert whacky idea for creature]?
The creature creator is apparently extremely dynamic and versatile, using a sophisticated version of the Sims creation software seen in The Sims 2. Beings ranging from the reptilian, tail-handed tripod created by Will Wright, to the infamous Carebear where seen during the demonstration. Depending on how whacky your idea is, it seems likely that you'll be able to create something at least approximating it.

Q. Are the items customizable?
Unsure on this one. Everything else in the game seems to be either created or generated by the computer dynamically. This leads us to believe you can. That and when Will's UFO visited the other planet the creatures there wielded tridents (possible edited form of the spear? maybe).

Q. Can you customize plants?
It was mentioned in the demo that certain plants where player created. So yes.

Q. How will the creatures who are added to your world be decided?
In the demo Will Wright said the computer would pick and choose what to add. What this means we don't know, but we have been garnering ideas.

Q. What does the UFO do?
Wright called it the "Swiss Army Knife" of the Spore universe. The Demo demonstrated that you can fly all over the universe and contact other life forms, terriform planets, and many other things.

Q. Will you be able to domesticate lower life forms?
Maybe, no official word on this. Considering it's just a change in behavioural patterns, I lean towards yes.

Q. What happens when you die?
We don't know, it was never brought up in the demo.

Q. Is Steve cool?

Q. C4n eye h4x0r m4h p3t5?
Don't speak like that, and the situation on cheats is in the dark too. Previous Maxis games have all had cheats, how this will work with an online database of creatures is unknown.

Q. Can I play with a modem?
Of course! The files sizes are insanely small, thanks to a mathmatics based engine. A single creature types is roughly 1k in size.

Q. Who owns my creature?
It's almost guaranteed that all creative output of Spore will be owned by EA one way or another.

Q. Can my creature fly?
This wasn't mentioned in the demo, so the jury is still out.

Q. Will I be able to play in the same galaxy as my friend and show him how awsome my skills are?
No, the game is singleplayer. There is a central database which collects creatures/buildings/objects/tools/etc stores them, and distributes them to other players. How this works is similar to somehting called the "demo scene" that's all the info we have on it.

Well, that's a good chunk. Please add more everyone! Remember to keep posting your ideas about all of these topics and more.

Spore: General / Pieces and Parts
« on: March 19, 2005, 12:09:13 pm »
Hmm, I wonder how all the different body parts will affect the AI of the creatures. The only example I can think of in the demo was when he added a horn thing to his microbe and it swam faster. Will the placement of body parts affect how they work?

I'll use one of my made up creautres as an example. I said it had three eyes around it's head. Would that mean it can see in all three different directions and can't be snuck up on? Toss up some other body parts and how you think they'll affect your creatures.

Everything Else / The stars

What do the little stars symbolize under our names?

Spore: General / Cheats
« on: March 19, 2005, 09:56:11 am »
Do you think they will blatantly tell everyone about the differentn cheats for the game just like in all the other Maxis games? If so I think they shouldn't allow those galaxies to upload objects to the database. I mean it would be fun have unlimited power in this game but, I wouldn't want to have to deal with other "trained" up creatures.

PC Games / Dark and Light?
« on: March 19, 2005, 07:59:01 am »
Has anyone ever heard of a game called Dark and Light? It too was supposed to be revolutionary and I remember it had a lot of stuff that was, but so far it hasn't seen the light of day. I wonder if it died in Beta?

I may be just a bit obsesive but I can honestly say I have known the location of my GameBoy SP since the first day I bought it. I love the thing, I've spent uncountable hours on it. Hehe, I figured this needed posted since this is the portable games forum. Anyone else love the Gameboy?

Spore: General / Going back to the start
« on: March 18, 2005, 07:41:20 am »
I was wondering if after you created your dominant species and got them running if you could go to a different planet or maybe just on your original planet and shrink back down to a celluar level. Start work on a new creature from the very begining while your old ones go about doing what they will. This way you could be several of your own special creatures and have them interact with each other, wether it's peaceful or you just want to see if your original creature can fend off a planetary threate  :D

Spore: General / The UFO
« on: March 18, 2005, 07:37:17 am »
I was wondering what type of different things you could do with the UFO. I read that you could abduct other creatures, transport whole cities, wage war with other planets. But could you like abduct a creature and than edit it, kinda like performing experiments on it or something similar. Everyone else feel free crop up some ideas about the UFO.
