EDIT: Subversion got canned. Maybe we'll be able to come back to this someday.
Subversion is an upcoming game from
Introversion Software, the folks who brought us Uplink, Darwinia, and Defcon. It's been in development for a few years already, at least since 2006.
Have a read through their
Subversion blog. They update pretty rarely but it's still really interesting stuff. There are some small videos in there as well.

Anyway, Subversion seems to be a game about heists. So the city will generate and you'll go around with a crew with particular skills and equipment to knock places off. Businesses, banks, and all that.
The game seems to be about starting small, small robberies and stuff; later on, when you've got the skills and gear you need, you can perform much more difficult stuff. You'll have to avoid all kinds of security, from personnel to laser trips.

There's a gameplay video from August last year I only happened upon recently. It should give you some idea of what the game is about by showing off a rough example robbery.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/11/30/see-subversion-at-world-of-love/It is still very much in development, so we have no idea what the overall goal of the game is at this point, if you can beat it, if there's going to be a storyline threaded throughout, and all that.
Sounds like it will be nice and open to modders too. You'll have to read the blog entries.
It's been quite awhile, several months already, since the last update from the developer. The game could look very different the next time we see it.
Now you can join in on the waiting game too. Lots of fun.
