You could try extracting the zip with something like 7-zip. That worked perfectly for me.
And trying to extract it with Windows' built-in zip extracter crashed my computer...

Daggerfall is terrible.

I spent like half an hour figuring how to get it working.. then I set up my character and it looked all neat and stuff.. So I go to the second room with the giant rat and I can hear it but cant see it. After I figure out its on the floor and my view is above it, I try hitting it with my weapon, but i keep missing and so the giant rat kills me within 2 minutes of starting the game Im dead and I need to create a whole new character.
So I do, and this time i mess around with the keyboard and figure out how to crouch which is handy; but for some reason ive got fists out and whatever I try to do, my weapon wont come into hand. The tutorial is useless. The giant rat killed me again after I hit it 100 times with my fists.

Lets hope Morrowind and Oblivion are better when I end up getting them.

Pff..! Kids these days! I my self remapped the home control scheme. But that is what i normally do in any game.

The game is not that hard. You just need to learn the basics. You probably wish to focus on melee first as you can burn up mana to fast with spells. Being able to adsorb spells is a great alternative however. Get a spell that do area damage and you can adsorb back the mana you used even. A bit cheap but it works.

When Daggerfall was released, I was 4 years old, (Yes, making me 15 and slightly less toolish and dimwitted then some 15 year olds that plague the net) and at that age all I did on the computer was play a neat game called Gizmos and Gadgets or one of the games in the Putt Putt series. (Hardcore gamer, I know.)
But the Atari was always fun, I could get days and days out of games that had an entertainment value that only lasted an hour.
If your going to be this way. Then guess what? I might just pick up Daggerfall again and make sure I at least kill that giant rat for my own dignities sake.

But your simply wrong. Daggerfall is a great game. Not with todays standard. But back then. I mean i do not see how you can have issues with the controls when there pretty much the same as a modern game (if you set them up that way). But hay... Maybe you have to read the manual. I did not have to. I learned the game though playing it.

Daggerfall was a great game.
Just like I think The Dig is a great game =P Which I only ended up playing through last year.
I didnt make much of an effort though.. thats why im starting again. The tutorial is what didnt help me at all

EDIT: I killed it! Hurrah! But only have half health left... Hmm lets see whats next.

Hurray! I killed the giant bat! Now lets open this nice looking door. Wtf. Some flying green goblin casts a spell on me and I die.

No! Okay. its just not worth the struggle. I avoid the Imp and some thief thats chasing me that will kill me if i try to fight him.. then a room with two rats.. = dead me. Bah. I even tried making a strong str warrior

Tipe. If your going melee try to get the Ebony Dagger. It is the best weapon you can get at the start. You should make a topic and post your story about how you struggle in Daggerfall
