Picked up a neat apprenticeship!
« on: April 14, 2021, 07:11:42 pm »
I was talking to a guy at the club earlier this week and he was telling me he needed help cleaning coal furnaces. And it seemed interesting and I had the extra time, so I figured I'd pick it up. He's got a lot of experience in the field and I'm pretty hyped to learn something new. Should be a good time!

Yeah!

Ended up getting the call last week for the first one. It's a neat, messy process. Somewhat tedious but in a good way like mowing the lawn or something like that. It ends up being relaxing.

I just changed careers myself! No more McDonalds. I manage an apartment building now, because my auntie does and also nepotism. Free rent in LA is a deal and I get another like, 1500 or so a month on top of that. Pretty sweet gig.

Cleaning coal furnaces seems cool. How common are those where you live?

Free rent in LA is a big deal. Nice!

There are a lot of coal furnaces up this way. It's something I'm doing for fun after I finish my normal job, so not a career chance. But it is another skill I can keep and I love learning new, practical things. Did I say it is messy. It is messy. D:

Are you cleaning they up for demolition, conversion, or reuse?

I'm at 23 years fixing computer for a hospital. First chance I get to quit and do something else, I'm done.

We are just cleaning them for reuse during the cold months. It is a nice side thing. Otherwise I am finishing up my current job this week and starting the new one next. With all this free money sloshing around my current employer can't find anyone to work, so I am being pulled well outside of my actual job to pick up the slack, plus still have to do my own job.

So that isn't worth my time. And I made a change.

Also have a tertiary job doing canning and preserves though that is just more for myself and family. Did a few dozen jars this weekend and broke in the new pressure cooker. Was a fun time! Relaxing sort of like mowing the lawn.
