On topic I hope this will revive Spore for me. I go in once in a while, create or modify one of my creatures, play for an hour and then leave it for weeks/months.
Space stage was fun enough first 2nd time, but it just doesn't have enought to do with your ACTUAL creature to grip me. Whether the little portrait that always sounds the same is a pink or blue blob matters little to me (which is why I suggested away teams/missions on planets), but these things in the trailer seem to focus more on the individual - I'm looking forward to seeing more about what that's all about :)

....still.... read my quote under my portait. It's been the same for years.

Community modding is a great thing and can foster great changes in a game. However in that post you "sell" it as if it was a petty cheat or trainer to get to the end goals faster. I'd definately reword if you're trying to introduce people to a modding community, and not bang off a cheat advert.

That said, I've been away from the Spore community for a while and it's nice to see people are still working on mods. I'll definately be checking out what advances have been made here.

I still like spore, but I've come to the repetitive stage as well.
I've been back in WoW for a couple of weeks, because spore started acting up (not launching again) and I couldn't be arsed to fix it because of the repetitive factor.
EDIT: Wow, I just read that again. I'm going BACK to WoW because another game is too repetitive? *LOL* Not a good statement for that game :p

Couple of days ago I decided to get it working again. After a while I succeeded and launched it again to play around and have fun in the editors. I wanted to start a new game after that, but thought "well why not try the patch first". So I allow it to download, fine. Error installing patch.

Ok reload and try again. Same error. Try with different variations of EADM running on and offline. Now I'm back to how it started, only the patch wasn't installed, doesn't come up and Spore wont let me go online at all. Says there's a login problem, can't connect to the server.
So I couldn't patch (fine, whatever), but now I can't play online either?

I just gave up. It's still a fine game, but not worth the hassle.
I'll check back in a few months and see what sort of patches have been released. Maybe if the patch has been patched...

I know what you all mean, it's annoying when it happens that things are unpainted - but I'm also guilty of that myself!
Not on purpose. What happens is that spent a long time creating a building (or whatever) and then I hit save to make sure my work isn't lost by crash or whatever, only it exits the editor without warning and accepts what you made as the final product.
I've stopped doing this as I'm now aware of it of course, but I fell prey to this at least 3 times.
There are a lot of users out there, if most of them get tricked by reflexes the same way, it will add up to a buttload of unpainted stuff.

It would be nice if it didn't auto-upload our unpainted stuff, and when we're about to exit the editor with an unpainted item. It does it for creatures so why not?

This is just guessing, but my guess would be that the planets are generated with a seed rather than a geological mesh. The seed would take up little data in itself.
By applying arbitrary changes the way you suggest, you'd have to render the seeded object and save it as data rather than a seed, and apply the changes and save that data. Cumulatively, with all the planets in the game, that's a lot of data.
I think SL is proposing making a different seed overlay to the existing seed, rather than rendering the seed, altering the result and saving that.

I may be talking out of my behind here (I do feel slightly concussed today), but this is how I understand it at time of writing.

A good way to test it is to stand in one place where you have a good mix of things close to you and far away, with a few effects visible. You then quick-save the game (Ctrl+S) and start snapping a few without moving the creature or camera at all.
Then you exit the game without saving, do the update, delete the cache file etc. then re-enter the game, load, and start taking pictures straight away - again without moving the creature or camera.
That way you will get very similar pictures so they're easier to compare :)

If rogues are supposed to be that rare then my game is bugged up o_O
I see rogues all the time. On my first playthrough I had a posse of full rogues 2 times (they were killed off by epic attack) and I still saw more yet running around. I'd estimate at least 10 at my first go.

It needs to be noted that I streched the creature game as far as I could, and picked up every single part. Perhaps they get more frequent as you explore more/get more parts?
Like to begin with you have easy creatures around you, and you don't normally see epics for a fair while. Could be the same so you see more after you're fully evolved.

Well if your old savegame got corrupted for whatever reason (which seems to be the cause) then there's probably not much you can do to bring it back. Many things can cause corruption, but the most likely is a problem with your HDD.
So if you did do that checkdisk and all the faulty sectors have been marked up, it shouldn't happen again unless the HDD is damaged further at a later time.
If you're feeling anxious that it might happen again, I guess the best precaution would be to take regular backups of your savegames (copy it somewhere else after each session, maybe store it online or on a CD-RW, USB memory module or simply another HDD).

Sorry for the late reply, I've been away (playing wow *cough*).

Usually you'll know if you have programs like that. It'll be included in security packages (like if you have Norton Internet Security) but if you've disabled your security software anyway that should be taken care of.
The only other thing is if you have software SPECIFICALLY for that purpose, but if you did you'd probably know about it.
The best way to be sure nothing is interferring is to follow my directions in this post:

Starting at "Note: If this does not work you may have conflicting software installed." and going down.
That'll catch pretty much anything you could have installed that could cause any problems.

The patch seems to have created some problems for some people, but apart from that I LOVE what was put in it :)

The patch notes were a thrill to read through, because they showed that the devs really have been listening to us :-* It didn't address everything, but it addressed a great many things we've uttered concerns about here and gave me a confidence boost that it'll all be looked at with time.
