damn.. that's going to take a while

Finally! It's going to be a while but hey, at least it's finally been announced. Better to have a date to look forward to than none at all.
People were starting to make jokes about those who're waiting for Spore and mocking us thinking it will never be released. Proved them wrong.

I wonder what has been done on the game during all this time...

I think it's fitting that this announcement comes on Charles Darwin's 199th birthday.

I could get fired from my job today for reading the gaming steve website instead of doing my work and it would still be a good day.

Finally!

Would have loved this before the summer, but still having a date set for it now is good!

Posted by CustodianV131 at February 12, 2008 5:10 PM

Yes!!!!!!!! I remember reading a month ago on Yahoo that Spore was being delayed to 2010, but HA! we get it this year!!!! I only wish I could get it for the DS this year..... but still GREAT NEWS!!!!

Posted by sketchrob at February 12, 2008 5:12 PM

NO!!!

wait...YES!!!

er...no? yes? yesno? noyes?

September is way too late but I can't complain. I can only pray that there won't be any delays (and I am still banking on at least one, possibly two, more delays to come) but at least we are closer. I jsut hope that this game will be worth the wait. Three and a half years!

And I was so hoping for April/May.... still: yay!

Posted by Miral at February 12, 2008 6:58 PM

That looked like a movie preview, lol

but I still can't wait

OMG I just fell out of my chair!!!

Posted by Ryan at February 12, 2008 7:55 PM

Yip.... py... 7 more months.

OK boys and girls, this is going to be a crappy year for your grades as you start up school and Sporegasm yourself too.

I literally was a freshman in college when I read about spore on Gamingsteve.com -- now I've graduated, got a job and am older than sh*t and it is just barely coming out?? This from a game that was supposed to have LESS development cost because it used procedural animation and space-age math equations to do the development work for it. I don't know what to expect.

Woo-hoo!

Posted by lemurbouy at February 12, 2008 9:16 PM

OMFG!!! omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg!!! cant wait! was kinda hoping 4 a april release date like they sed but OMG!!!

Posted by Vinny at February 12, 2008 11:17 PM

@phuz: Well, it's an AI problem -- the Spore programmers have to design code to do the work of human animators, on models that can vary quite significantly (albeit still within some constrained parameters). That's a much harder job than just doing the animation on a fixed set of models.

The 3D model work is about the same; it's just that instead of designing entire creatures they're designing lots of little interchangable parts.

Gaming Steve...what do you mean "little fanfare"? This is the biggest announcement for just a ship date I've ever seen. a movie just for the date??? Crazy, but cool. Lot's of interviews? Lots of new game pictures! Awesome. Thanks Maxis!

Awesome date they chose. They made us go outside and enjoy the summer whilst it´s here and not sit inside all day in the great weather.

Posted by Morten Knudsen at February 13, 2008 6:51 AM

Day before my birthday :D

Posted by Matt at February 13, 2008 10:05 PM

dam released on my first day at uni :(

Posted by dan at February 14, 2008 4:28 AM

And Super smash bros brawl was going to be a Wii launch title :P
I'm glad they're taking their time.

I'd rather have a good game in 7 months, than a crappy game now.

Posted by Locus at February 14, 2008 8:29 AM

Can't wait!!!!
