January 20, 2008Metal Gear Solid 4 Demo Coming to PSN In February?![]() Playstation 3 owners looking forward to what is arguably the console's biggest release of this year will be getting a reward for all their patience: a Metal Gear Solid 4 demo in February. This shocking news is from poster TomEmo12 on the gametrailers.com forums where he posted a picture of the British magazine PSW stating a fairly straightforward remark that a demo will be on the Playstation Network in February. Details are extremely sparse, and Konami has yet to confirm anything, but it appears to be one single player level from the game. If true, this a complete turn around for Konami, who was quoted at TGS 2007 as having no demo planned. Being that the game has become quite the poster child for the console, it would probably be in both Sony and Konami's best interest to get a demo out as soon as possible. I personally look forward to playing this game, having really enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 3 (and the tactical card game on the PSP) and as long as it doesn't come out for the Xbox 360, it will probably be one of the games that convinces me to purchase my own PS3. Releasing a demo would also be both great publicity for Sony and, so long as the demo is good, a sales boon for Konami. Apparently, that's something they really need for this title. Comments
The Metal Gear franchise has me gripped by the balls. Usually I'd hold out on purchasing an expensive console like the PS3 for a few years but this time around, I simply cannot wait. So I'll be purchasing a PS3 around the time of MGS4's release. I'm not too fussed about playing a demo of the game. I'd rather wait for the full version and have it all fresh in my mind. But its still good news if it ends up being true. Posted by Daniel Primed at January 21, 2008 5:49 AMI think they did this with Metal Gear Solid 2 back in the day. Konami released a Demo with their Zone of Enders game. It was just the first ship level with snake, and was quite good I remember. But IMO, left too much for the real game to handle. Metal Gear Solid 3, I thought, was a lot better. MGS 1 is still my favorite though. Like Daniel said, I don't currently own a PS3, but I may have to buy one just for MGS4. Posted by Michael at January 21, 2008 3:22 PMI don't currently own a PS3 and I may just -rent- one for MGS4. Too many bad console investments in the past. And by too many, I mean both XBoxes. (just explaining because I don't want people calling me out as a fanboy or some retarded crap) Posted by Gauphastus at January 21, 2008 5:11 PMYou shouldn't be buying a gaming console for just one game, albeit a good one. Even if it ends up being GAME OF THE YEAR, if Metal Gear Solid 4 is all it takes to get you to shell out $600 for what is basically a toy, you must rolling in dough buddy. And what in God's name is a sales boon? Posted by BC at January 21, 2008 6:35 PMboon The demo could very well help sales, as did the Dead Rising and Lost Planet demos. Also, I said one of the games that convinces me to buy a PS3, not the only one. Posted by Clayton at January 21, 2008 6:51 PMI already have a PS3, so that part's been taken out of the way. That said, I'm still getting this game as soon as possible, but I may need to play the previous entries first before doing so... BTW - PS3 is no longer $600. It's been reduced to $400-$500. Just saying... Posted by Nettacki at January 22, 2008 4:56 AMPosting for contest. My board name is jonrosing. I would love to turn my knife block full of knives into a culdcept card. (You know, the wooden block that sits on your counter full of knives). Something tells me that a block of wood firing a barage of knives at someone would be a very good concept for a game creature!
