Sony Defense Force Activate!

Fanboys

I guess if you're going to run a biased gaming web site you might as well go all the way! The Sony Defense Force has some pretty hilarious posts where they basically destroy anything not Sony related. Their review of Super Mario Galaxy is quite funny:

Mario Galaxy Review: 1/10

Overall, to say Mario Galaxy is a disaster is an understatement. If you’re an easily amused child with a hard-on for nostalgia, pick up Mario Galaxy. Otherwise, if you’re an intelligent gamer that is interested in a real videogame experience, pick up a Playstation 3 and have a turn at Uncharted, easily this year’s best..

They also have a couple of other funny reviews, including their review of Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction which they gave a 10.5/10 (they could find nothing wrong with the game) and their impressions of Mass Effect ("graphics = god awful, frame rate = awful, shooting = god awful, noise filter = makes me want to kill someone, pacing = very slow, controls = almost bearable, most planets = barren and dull, story = generic").

Although I have to say even though they are going way overboard with their assessments of these games, their points are often not invalid. Mass Effect, while a fantastic game, does have deep flaws which they do touch on (as do I in my review of the game on this week's podcast). Same can be said for many of their other reviews where they greatly simplify their arguments way past the point of common sense, but their core criticisms are often valid.

As Homer says, "It's funny because it's true".

And speaking of Sony self-loving, Three Speech released their top five picks of the year. Surprisingly two of their five picks (Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed) were not PS3-only games. Pretty surprising for a Sony-slated web site. I have to think that they were truly being honest with their picks or they couldn't find five outstanding PS3-only games released this year. Which do you think it is?

I just find it funny because this is such a Nintendo biased site.

Which I find funny as PlayStation is my favorite system.

Wait! Where'd you find the picture of my crew!?

Isn't it always interesting how a fan's opinions changes how they view a game, just by what system it is on? I know I do that some times.

Yep I noticed that too Ben M! It happens to me too sometimes! ;) We get into fights sometimes me and a friend about games on different systems :P

Sony Defense Force is run by the guy who owns wii60.com

Well i am a computer fan my self. I have always been and will most likely always be. I just like computers. Consoles are nice. But there only for gaming basically. I like to do more. I also prefer the style of games the PC haves to offer. But is almost unfair to compare PCs and consoles. Like Apple and Oranges.

clearly that site is a joke site. and yes -thanks to whois- we can see that the owner of sony defense force is also the owner of wii60. rob foor, as the owner's named, could have done a better job of covering his tracks.

but then again, maybe he didn't want to. just as the wii60 meme pretty much doomed the ps3 last year, this seems to be another attempt to swing that favor around. maybe he's getting a fat sony check? pity "sony defense force" just doesn't ring in our heads. and that's the last time i'll look at that "clever" site.

I think it's funny because these guys have only had sex with their hand.

They're all a bunch of wankers.

Sony defense force = sony's gay force lol, this site is a failure as much as the suckboys.

you probably made this moron at least $100 bucks with this post.

here is a little expose we did on him back when we where affiliated with the equally moronic Sony Protection Group - http://www.tripletags.com/post.asp?id=66

who cares. computer games are rad, regardless of what your playing them on. last gen i had all 3 consoles, this time i've only got a 360 half due to money half because im not that bothered about the others, YET! im sure in time, the games that make it worth it'll come through. mario galaxy looks sick! but its like the first proper game the wiis got, the rest are a nice bit've fun but still. the ps3 is an undeniable beast of a machine, but cant help but think the games arent quite there yet, uncharted looks very accomplished but is still a posh tomb raider. in time the games will undoubtedly draw me in, as will a more poor boy friendly price point.

I think the whole site is a parody and all of you taking it seriously need to re-evaluate your world view

Posted by Daytime at December 21, 2007 11:33 AM

How do people not realise this site is a Parody?

Posted by Bomer at December 21, 2007 11:03 PM

Why is Steve promoting that idiotic website? They don't deserve to be even mentioned in any serious gaming discussion.

Mass Effect is the best RPG of the year on any platform and I don't understand these "key points that they hit" as Steve said. The game is fun entertaining and immersive, those are the most important factors at the end of the day.

Bosnique:

I pointed out the site because 1) it's pretty funny, 2) it is important to see parody sites and how they compare to "unofficial" company sites such as Three Speech (which is bankrolled by Sony, you can see the entire paper trail at http://tinyurl.com/2ebz88), 3) that sites such as this can, and do, affect unknowing consumers.

I pointed out this site and didn't even mention that this was a parody site thinking that everyone knew, but yet dozens of people on this site and at n4g.com (http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-94484.aspx) seem to think that this is a "real" and serious site.

Hence, it's important to see all the sides of how marketing and PR can affect consumer views. And to see just how far ALL game companies will go to get their message across (i.e. Three Speech=Sony, Games for Windows Magazine=Microsoft, Nintendo Power=Nintendo, etc.).

Well i knew when I read that MG review that it wasn't real site in sense that anyone in their right mind would take it seriously, but I did think it was some fanboy site...lol my bad.
