Convert Your World of Warcraft Character into a 3D Model

I believe this might be one of the signs of the apocalypse ... FigurePrints will allow World of Warcraft players to order customized 3D "figure prints" based on their in-game characters. Your character's race, class, weapon, and gear is printed using a high-tech 3D color printing machine used by the manufacturing industry to build prototypes, converting three dimensional computer models into physical objects. You can even add your character's name and customize their pose.

The site and service doesn't open until December 11th and their FAQ is a little sparse on real details. Oh yeah, and they aren't cheap -- $99.95 plus $14.95 for Shipping and Handling. Ouch.

Still, having a physical 3D model of your in-game WoW character in which you have logged hundreds thousands of hours played would be pretty cool to put on your deck.

Lord help me I might just have to reactivate my WoW account just to get one of these things. (see more examples after the jump.)

$99 isn't that bad. It well within the pain limit for most people. A great gife for Christmas. All they need to do is promote it heavly and the money will flow in like a flood river. It just too bad they only do it for WoW.

Anyway the last part of the FAQ doesn't make sense. Are they hand crafted or machine base?

--------------
Okay, I’m sold. How do I buy one?

Because of the overwhelming demand and because each of our prints is hand crafted, we have been forced to limit availability. The best way to get a chance to order a FigurePrint is to express your interest by creating an account on this website with a valid email address. We will alert you as soon as we are able to take more orders.

I hope it doesn't cost that much when spore comes out :/ But they are cool looking.

I don't even play WoW anymore but, this looks cool enough I might have to get it done.

The figurines look shuweet! I would get one if I had the money and played WoW and was level 70 and had the best possible loot.

Wouldn't want to look shabby now would we?

PS. That's RandyDeluxe from the Instance podcast!

wow. if they did this for EQ2 characters i would gladly shell out $100 and then get them for presents for eq friends!

Posted by korbie at December 5, 2007 5:24 PM

The Gnome figures should only cost $20, right?

What a great business idea! And it ensures that people will play the game to get the "cool" armor that they want to have displayed on their physical avatar model. Great way to be able to show your grandchildren "I used to play a character that looked just like this in an online game when I was your age..." after the game itself is long gone. Nice memorbilia.

I want one. Not for $99... I've got 4 kids that need me to spend money on them first... but it would be cool.

Congrats on the business opportunity!

The model is made by a 3d printer. You can actually buy one yourself but you will have to pay around $30.000 for it :)

I wonder if they let you create characters from the test server.

Then you can walk around with all of the cool gear.

Posted by Morriel at December 6, 2007 9:39 AM

you can get a "digital" 3d model out of Wow yourself for free...

My hunny showed me this today... very cool! Though I have to say, I'd be wondering if they could do it in forms. My toon happens to be a lazerturkey (aka moonkin) and if I ever wanted one, I'd probably want her with her pewpew horns and dagger and fire-breathing offhand, feathers and all. Heh! (Not to mention I don't think I will ever have a set of gear that actually... you know... MATCHES. Hah!)

Either way, still a very interesting concept, and VERY cool!

These do look really cool and i am very intrested in buying one but i do have some questions.

First is do i get to decide the pose?
Do i have to be wearing the gear i want on me for you to copy?
Can i have added features like, my mount, skeletons or dead gnomes?
Since my trinkets cant be seen is it possible to have them hanging off my characters waist?
When adding my name can i have a form of lighting behind it, either actual lights or glow ink?
And finally can i have my guild name also on the model?

I'd be willing to pay extra but would need to know in advance how much extra these things would cost and whether you could do it or not. I look forward to any news on this, thank you. And the Idea is pure ownage, best way to say, i was a part of something magical back in the days!!

I "extracted" WOW characters using a 3D print screen utility...

you need the software to do it (take a bit of fiddling)...
