March 13, 2007New Spore Evolution VideoNew information on Will Wright's Spore has been hard to come by, but this new video nicely summarizes the evolution process within Spore and shows off many of the editors. Particularly I enjoyed watching the building editor (all 5 seconds of it!) and the city building portion. It's been nearly two years to the day in which Spore was first reported to exist (by yours truly) and yet we seem to be no closer to the release date. Supportively coming out "sometime in 2007" I have a feeling it's going to be closer to "sometime in 2008", if not "sometime in 2009" (please no). Of course, waiting for new games is half of the fun ... but I don't think I can take another two years of waiting fun. Comments
I'm still holding on to the idea of Septemberish Posted by ilikesata at March 13, 2007 3:50 PMSame here :P Posted by DarkDragon at March 13, 2007 3:59 PMThe ending parts of each segment seemed longer than the ones that i saw. This year is going to be filled with games that I want to try and play. Posted by xnodas at March 13, 2007 4:01 PMI saw this on youtube a few hours ago whow steve what a suprise! Posted by xenomorph at March 13, 2007 4:33 PMI don't think you should of said anything about release in '08 yet. It's pretty discouraging knowing that we've waited as long as we have and might have to extend that past September. I would rather have September come and go before hearing '08. Spore is an epic project and I can't wait to play it, I got the money set aside and everything already, but I do wish at times I didn't hear about it as soon as I did back in '05. Thanks for putting the video up here though, it was a pain looking through the topic looking for the whole thing. Posted by Evildude at March 13, 2007 5:19 PMLord, I hope we don't have to wait 'til 2008. So I don't know. Posted by Gauphastus at March 13, 2007 6:55 PMSteven, don't say such things! Spore is going to be released next week but Maxis and EA are sending free copies to our homes which are arriving tomorrow as a surprise. Don't tell anyone! Seriously, I don't wanna wait until 2008. With Little Big World being the new Spore competitor I might lose interest if it takes that long. Posted by Byron at March 13, 2007 8:32 PMWow glad to see steve dint get hit by a car or something. I totally pumped for this game. Posted by Wow at March 14, 2007 1:01 AMdoes this footage seem polished, or unpolished? judging only on what i've seen here -and not what i've heard- i think that spore is still go for this year. that game play just looks too solid to be alpha anymore. i bet it's in an in house beta as we speak, and we will see it this autumn. now stop making people worry when you bring no information as to why it would be delayed longer. Posted by nicesocks at March 14, 2007 11:31 AMI'm so sick of anticipating Spore after 2 years. I really think it's going to be disappointing. It still looks hollow, like an engine without a game. The way those creatures all dance in unison is so tacky, with no variation between individual creatures whatsoever. Just release it already and patch it if neccessary! 2009? BLASPHEMY!! Thinking about it coming out was fun for the first 18 months, now it's just annoying. It was announced way too soon. They've given other companies such a headstart at creating Spore-clones it's not even funny. I'm not even sure I'll buy it anymore. Posted by Deep Lee at March 14, 2007 2:08 PMWell, there are two options: 1) The game is released early. It is buggy, unfinished, and people complain that "they should have finished/fixed the game before releasing it." 2) The game is delayed. It is clean, finished, and people forget how long they've been waiting. Myself, I don't want to play an unfinished, buggy game. Posted by B at March 14, 2007 3:11 PMI have to agree with B. I've been waiting for this game for 2 years and while my immediate fascination comes and goes, I'm still very excited and if it's another 2 years, well, we shall survive. Steve, good stuff and I hope to see more. -leeman Posted by Leeman at March 15, 2007 3:32 PMWell, you guys seems to forget option 3/C which companies like Valve are good at. 3: The game is delayed. It is buggy, unfinished, and people complain that was not worth the wait. Posted by ElliottB at March 16, 2007 2:36 PM2008? 2009? I doubt that and what makes you say that? septemberish seems logical to me Posted by Joey at March 19, 2007 2:16 AMWhen Will Wright sais Septemberish you shouldnt just fabricate a new release date with 2008 and 2009. Please stick to what Will Wright has said himself. Before Septemberish it was the last half of 2007, and septemberish is in that last half. The game will be out and it will be good, and it will get a patch after a couple of months and then an expansion in march, april... Posted by Thor Jarle at March 19, 2007 3:01 PMI think this game looks like it's a long way off from being finished. The action i've seen in this latest demo looks really REALLY boring. Like a bigger more 3d version of FLOW. I'm not sure what I really expect out of this game, in terms of gameplay, but right now it doesn't look very interesting. I think in 2 years, it will have evolved into a real game though. (pun intended) 5 months til next podcast. Posted by poop at March 20, 2007 4:03 PMAs much as I'm anticipating this game, I'll definitely need a new computer to play it. Since I can't afford one at the moment, I don't hugely mind waiting a bit longer for it. Posted by Richard at March 21, 2007 8:33 PMI can't wait till it comes out!!! Posted by Joshua at March 23, 2007 6:14 PMRichard, It has been rumored that the computer specs will be the same as the SIMS 2 Posted by Smallfry at April 4, 2007 5:59 PMWell we have to rember the fact that there are delay from him working on add ons to sims2 that why there has been so many delays. Posted by Sin at April 22, 2007 9:39 AMYou forget the 4th option. 4) The game becomes vaporware and is abandoned before completion. I am looking forward to this game with anticipation. Posted by Deej85 at April 28, 2007 6:47 PMI can't believe anyone could say anything bad about this game... but come to think of it... after awhile the action doesn't seem so actiony... i mean, going around as a little microscopic organism dragging the curser over smaller organisms for how long? The two things that are awesome about this game are the astounding creature editor and the fact that its "Massively Single Player." I also look forward to the almost infinite number of different planets to visit. But then again, how long can you go from planet to planet before they all start looking alike? Despite all these criticisms, when it comes out, I'm definately goin' to buy it. Posted by Steve from Accounting at May 8, 2007 12:18 AMim still goin with the summer '07 release...this game looks nice and clean Posted by omghurry at May 9, 2007 10:00 PMHmm, at the time I first read the release date comment, I saw no reason to believe, now however... o.0 Perhaps they could release just the creature maker / sandbox. That is one part of SPORE that I can't wait to get my hands one. I think it would be super fun to throw together different combos then watch, with sheer joy (or shock), at what happens. :) Come on Steve you can make this happen for us, yes? no? Hmmm... Posted by Toshipaine at May 24, 2007 3:51 AMMore or less not much exciting happening today. I just don't have anything to say. More or less nothing seems worth bothering with. It's nice My local "Game" shop said they had a Spore Repusentive (sp?) in last week and they are firmly sticking to September. Even dispite the fact that I read in a Highly Respected News Artical that EA want to Delay the game so it comes out in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of '08 to make it look good on some big almighty published financial profit report. Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend. Personally I liked the semi-sciency look of the tidepool phase, and some of the landscapes in the first few videos.... What I would like to know is who is pushing to change the style and if something like that(Which EA said they want to franchise Spore) is holding up the release date. If so I think that if there is more than another year of waiting it will start self-destructing with Hype and Rumors... Posted by Ben at July 27, 2007 10:00 AMRE: but I don't think I can take another two years of waiting fun. I imagine it must be torture on the developers as well Posted by Ryan at August 7, 2007 3:05 PMHey, just 2 let u all know, a couple weeks ago when i was going on a spore rampage, looking through everything that had to do with spore, i saw a youtube vid, that gave both the release date, as well as the realease date of the creature editor (which is coming out a little early to populate spore before it hits the stores) by will wright! He was talking to some blond dude at some convention that starts with an L... sounded german. Anyway, im 2 lazy to look it up now, but if anyone finds it plz post it so i can watch it again... and again... and again CAN"T WAIT 4 SPORE!!! Posted by Michael at October 2, 2007 12:40 AM |
