October 3, 2006Gaming Steve Episode 59 - 10.03.2006 Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated! I'm back and I have a great new feature where I explain in detail the entire game development process from beginning to end. This week I examine what type of games publishers are looking to publish. Enjoy!

Posted by OmniOck at October 3, 2006 11:58 PMGood to have you back Steve. There are also subscription oceans on Puzzle Pirates. On Midnight and Cobalt Oceans, for a flat $10/month you don't have to worry about doubloons. -Iostream of the Midnight Ocean Posted by iostream at October 4, 2006 1:21 AMGlad you're still kickin' Steve. Can't wait to give this a listen. Posted by robotplague at October 4, 2006 4:18 AMYay! Steve's back! :D Posted by P4p3Rc1iP at October 4, 2006 6:50 AMThis is for all Dragon_Reborn knuckleheads who double post things and has his head so far up Steve's butt that if Steve stops unexpectedly, only Dragon's ankles will show. I still stand by my comments that a small post on the front page was not too much to ask. I'm happy that Steve and his wife had a baby, I have two of them myself. No excuse to leave your community out in the cold. Posted by Joel Hulsey at October 4, 2006 6:59 AMThanks for the great podcast Steve! The German USK plays each game through entirely before giving it a rating. They have professional gamers who play the game through entirely using cheatcodes and walkthroughs and then presents it to the rating board. That has never been a problem, and no one from the media has ever complained about this. Delays are very rare because of this. Actually I don't think that they happen. Oblivion came out here the same week it came out in the US. I don't see the problem you Americans have with this. Posted by Sagan at October 4, 2006 8:24 AMAs for that ESRB bill, there is one compelling argument that this is a bad idea. Would it have found "Hot Coffee?" NO! There are also these free roaming games (Oblivion, Saints Row, GTA, Test Drive Unlimited) where an exhaustive game play is virtually impossible. Sure, you could do all the missions, but will you find all of the unintended polygon flaws, invisible platforms, get-past-the edge exploits, and strange positioning of the in-game characters? Again, no. And finally, what about downloadable content, NEW cheat devices, and online play? All the publishers can do is state that "online pay may change rating." Downloadable content may be rated, but what if it "breaks" the game in an unknown, embarrasing way? Like what if the characters' clothes disappear under certain conditions? (Smurfette, anyone?) A new cheat device may allow the playing of mods. The writers of the bill are unaware that the ESRB can only do their best and there will always be naughty programmers and mod makers. They're like people that way. Posted by Robbway at October 4, 2006 9:06 AMWelcome back, congrats on the new child and I feel you pain on trying to record with kids screaming in the back ground Posted by Gregory Wurm at October 4, 2006 11:07 AMWAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! thank the LORD! steve is BACK!! lol is this a special birthday trat just for me steve? 18 tomorrow! FU*K YEAH!!! Posted by Ben at October 4, 2006 12:07 PMOh frabjous day, calloo callay, he chortled in his joy! (happy happy, joy joy) Not only did I get to hear a new episode of gaming Steve today, but I just got back from work to find that my copy of Rocket Slime has arrived from Play Asia! Great to see you back Steve, but even better to know that things are going so well for you. Posted by Cruithne at October 4, 2006 12:19 PMYou weren't kidding about a new episode coming soon. You loved Banjo-Kazooie? You're awesome Steve! Have you ever played Banjo-Tooie? You should if you haven't because most likely there will be some inside jokes in the third one that you would only get in the second one. Secondly, it's a great compliment to the first one and is just as good as the first. I can't believe so many people thought the last "Name That Game" sound was Prey. Even I could tell it was Guitar Hero and I never played the game. I heard those little screw ups too. We'll hear from you soon next episode Steve. Posted by Eligecos at October 4, 2006 1:14 PMI want to buy a new DS title, because I'll be on a plane next week. Steve - if you had a choice what would you pick between Kirby's Canvas Curse or Dragon Quest's Rocket Slime? Any advice on thatta one? Cheers! LOVE YOUR SHOW MAN! Posted by Pete from New Zealand at October 4, 2006 2:34 PMExcellent pod cast Steve, keep up the incredible amount of work you do to make the podcast extra special. Your the best in the buis. Posted by Andrew at October 4, 2006 2:36 PMWelcome back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by Billy Shank the Danger Boy at October 4, 2006 3:42 PMGood to see your podcast is back, was getting worried! Cheers Posted by Father at October 4, 2006 6:53 PMYay, a new show! Welcome back Steve and congratulations with the latest addition to your gaming-crew. ;) Posted by Haze at October 4, 2006 7:19 PMFinally a show! Welcome back, Steve. Posted by MO at October 4, 2006 8:35 PMYAY STEVE! I'm so glad you're back! Congradulations on your new child (say goodbye to sleep for another 6 months to a year). Can't wait to have my second one :D. Glad the netcast is still going strong, and I hope things go smooth! Posted by True Vox at October 5, 2006 3:23 AMExcellent Podcast! My ability to resist the DS is falling daily. Posted by Beomoose at October 5, 2006 4:24 AMI agree Beomoose... was in BestBuy yesterday, and they are hard to resist... ahhh! Posted by DrJiggs at October 5, 2006 10:35 AMI suspect the reason so many people thought it was Prey is because that most excellent song (Judas Priest, rawr) is in the bar's jukebox at the very beginning of Prey. It might even be the default song, but I can't remember. I didn't listen to the previous show, but when I heard the clip I did actually think of Prey up until I heard the missed notes. That was a nice choice for the next one as well. It's been a while since I've played it; brings back fond memories. I don't think it ever got the recognition that it deserved, either. Posted by Jeremy at October 5, 2006 4:30 PMThe first second of the song I thought "Vice City. V-Rock, home of the vulture!" How Steve would have had us discern Vice City from Prey (Since it's the pure song playing in both games) I would like to know though =-p Posted by Keeper at October 5, 2006 5:25 PMI'm not even going to bother downloading this one Gaming Steve. Since you've become a spokesman for Microsoft, there's no point really. I would download the Major Nelson podcast if I wanted to hear about how great Microsoft are. Blah blah blah. Posted by Laurence at October 6, 2006 7:36 AMSteve -- congrats on your newborn. I have one myself and know all too well what that means for getting work done (and sleep habits!). Posted by FrankS at October 6, 2006 1:32 PMUh Laurence, this dosn't have much to do about Microsoft, more abou t Nintendo. If you dont dload it fine. And also sorry aobut that double posting a while back, my screen froze. Posted by Dragon_Reborn at October 6, 2006 8:31 PMCongrats on the baby Steve. Also i agree with what you said about the ps3, im a big sony fan but i just dont see why i should buy their new console over the cheaper wii or 360. Posted by Mike at October 7, 2006 10:04 AMThanks for another great podcast, Steve. Posted by SharpMonkey at October 9, 2006 11:46 AMHere we go again, another month before next podcast. Posted by nobidy at October 11, 2006 11:29 PMIt's been little over a week... Posted by Gauphastus at October 12, 2006 3:44 AMThat doesnt mean it wont take a month for the next podcast. Posted by geegle at October 12, 2006 4:33 PMIt might take another month but atleast we know why. Having a baby can be time consuming. Posted by Joku2002 at October 13, 2006 7:22 PMPost a comment
