Holy Moses!

Yay!

Thank you sir!

Such pain and anger in Steve's voice when he talks about Sony.

Posted by Khash at August 17, 2006 01:39 AM

Come on steve how bout every other week at least...?

Anyway welcome back to the pod cast!

Posted by Shoki at August 17, 2006 01:45 AM

It's back!

Thank you so much!

Don't feel bad about being gone. Stuff happens. ;)

We're just glad to have you back.

Thanks again!

alright new show, woot!

Posted by ilikesanta at August 17, 2006 03:01 AM

yha finnally a new podcast!

Posted by pat at August 17, 2006 03:27 AM

what was with the sound effects at the end of the interview?

Posted by ilikesanta at August 17, 2006 04:01 AM

Welcome back, Gaming Steve! Glad to hear you didn't have an equipment failure, nothing wrong with making us wait for work ;)

Gotta agree with you on E3. An IGN ed made the point that ESA could have done like the Auto Industry shows and divided the show into "invite only" and "normal mob" days pretty easily if this were truely just about making the games more accessable to press. Oh well, I look forward to PAX.

Posted by Beomoose at August 17, 2006 04:18 AM

Steve, you mentioned a huge gaming conference in Essen, Germany. I think you meant Leipzig, where the annual Games Convention (what an original name, eh) is held: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leipzig_games_convention

Posted by neuebiene at August 17, 2006 09:17 AM

Rock on !! steve`s Back !

Posted by Mike at August 17, 2006 09:40 AM

No, he probably meant the yearly board game convention in Essen. It´s from Oct. 19th to 22nd this year. It traditionally starts with the award ceremony for "Spiel des Jahres" the evening before the show opens. Steve explained what that means in his Ticket to Ride podcast.

Found somewhere on Wikipedia:
"The largest gaming convention is probably Spiel in Essen, Germany. In 2004 this convention, which focuses on board games, had 150,000 visitors and 690 exhibitors from 24 nations."

The GC in Leipzig is next week.

You all should be ashamed! Steve has a life. I don't what anyone complaining, unless you have a 2 hour podcast!

Posted by Michael Greenberg at August 17, 2006 11:31 AM

So is the podcast (going to be) a monthly thing now Steve?

Posted by Boosh! at August 17, 2006 11:45 AM

Steve, take as much time as you need to do the podcasts. It would suck if it became a burden and wasn't fun anymore. I'd rather have them occasionally rather than you get sick of them and stop all together.

Posted by robotplague at August 17, 2006 11:54 AM

Quote from Steve:
"Bioware's graphics are kind of iffy"
Please explain what game you are referring to? I don't believe you could be further from the truth...

Posted by Freakjob_0 at August 17, 2006 12:26 PM

To be fair, yes, the companies use the same hardware from year to year, but they have to pay for their floor space as well. And companies like Sony chew up a LOT of floor space. That is a consideration when calculating the cost of a booth, though with Sony bleeding a billion a year from their gaming division, I doubt they'll miss ten thou here, twenty thou there. I'm just sayin'.

Sincerely,
A Volunteer for a Company That Can Only Afford a Small Booth at Conventions Like Origins and Gen-Con

Posted by w0rf at August 17, 2006 01:46 PM

Freakjob I think he was mostly referring to KOTOR

Posted by ilikesanta at August 17, 2006 02:58 PM

Thank you for another episode of the best gaming podcast, Steve!

Posted by whish at August 17, 2006 05:12 PM

does anyone like sony anymore.... they just seem too sneaky to me...they do have Final Fantasy though

Posted by kevo999 at August 17, 2006 06:37 PM

GamingSteve's podcast is probably the only podacst that i constantly wait for, and immensly enjoy listening to, and if nothing new has appeared after a week or two, i start to worry that it's gone forever for whatever reason.
Steve: We hope you realize how much we enjoy the content and quality you provide; take two weeks between the casts, heck even take three, as long as you continue to provide us with the best and most inteligent insight and opinion bar none concerning an industry that we all love. Keep up the smashing work !

Posted by Stefan at August 17, 2006 07:28 PM

I've stopped checking the main page every day. I really miss you're daily (or bi-weekly) comments. I just go straight to the forum half the time now, since I don't expect something new more than twice a month.

Hope to see some user generated content up instead, at the least. Keep your momentum. You're half famous dude. -Just thoughts...

Posted by Deep Lee at August 17, 2006 10:06 PM

Steve, I'm glad you're back :) I haven't listened to the show yet. I'm saving it for my long drive to Canada tomorrow (Friday). Hope all is well. Keep up the great shows.

Anyone who needs a room next year in Essen. ;)
Greetings from there.

Steve is wrong about the computer gaming world magazine getting money from MS...if you listen to the CGW podcast, they talked about the issue last week. They specifically stated that no money exchanged hands, and that they made the move to get more exposure on newstands.

The facts, people. Just the facts.

Posted by h20 at August 18, 2006 02:19 PM

"Steve is wrong about the computer gaming world magazine getting money from MS...if you listen to the CGW podcast, they talked about the issue last week. They specifically stated that no money exchanged hands, and that they made the move to get more exposure on newstands."

Actually I said that they MIGHT have gotten money from MS, that it was one of many possible co-branding possibilities. However, you realize that having permission to use the Windows brand IS a form a payment, don't you? According to the "2006 Best Brands Report", Microsoft and Windows were ranked the #2 most recognizable brand in the world. And brands sell big time (#1 was Coke-Cola).

Just like Oprah Magazine, Oprah herself didn't pay any money to get her magazine published, but she did and continues to lend her name, image, brand, and expertise on a monthly basis. And that has resulted in Oprah Magazine becoming one of the top magazines in the world.

Games for Windows is exploring a similar tactic, otherwise they could have just called the magazine "Games for PCs". That "Windows" in the title will sell magazines, don't think otherwise and don't think that a form a "payment" wasn't received.

Posted by Gaming Steve at August 18, 2006 02:49 PM

Thats pretty much exactly what i said in my post above...that they made the move to get more exposure on newstands, and thus, more $$$.

No money went from MS to Zif Davis, or vice versa though.

Posted by h20 at August 18, 2006 11:10 PM

The interview with Chris Satchell sounded more like an infomercial. Come on, who are we kidding? IT WAS AN INFOMERCIAL!

Microsoft clones like Satchell, Peter Moore, and Greg Canessa give me the creeps. It is like they have either been brain washed at Microsoft HQ or else sold their souls to the Devil.

Chilling listening. Please, no more Microsoft infomercials thanks.

Posted by Laurence at August 19, 2006 10:00 AM

Im guessing the reason Steves podcasts are becomming farther apart is simply because gaming news is sparse during the summer and commonly picks up during fall/winter.

Posted by Ben bryan at August 20, 2006 01:27 AM

"Such pain and anger in Steve's voice when he talks about Sony."

That's what I noticed as well. And to be quite frank, the reasons that were listed on next-gen.biz sounded a lot more plausible than just one company having enough of bloggers. :P

Posted by Fraeon at August 20, 2006 01:36 PM

Please, PLEASE stop staying "Oh, I don't know..." over a dozen times per podcast. Find some other useless phrase to repeat ad nauseum.

Posted by Armis at August 28, 2006 12:22 AM

Dude... Who cares, this is the BEST Video game podcast out there so shut up.

Posted by Dragon_Reborn at August 29, 2006 07:07 PM

Stop listening if you don't like the way he talks or what he says.

Posted by UNSCleric at September 2, 2006 05:12 PM

AHAHAHAHAHA AAAAHAHAHAHA

Posted by Mike at September 4, 2006 10:42 AM

Why do the idiots have to bring their hate and bile into everything?

Keep up the good work Steve, and I'm sorry that you had to see such horrible remarks.

Posted by Cruithne at September 4, 2006 02:19 PM

Steve vanishes yet again. It is getting harder and harder to call this the best gaming podcast when it happens once a month. By the time is shows up, I'll have heard everything elsewhere.

Lets face it, Steve is losing interest.

Posted by mudkicker at September 9, 2006 04:59 PM

I'm actually starting to agree with that...

Posted by DrJiggs at September 10, 2006 05:39 PM

steve isn't losing interest - he just doesn't have time to do the podcast anymore.

but i think he IS lacking in manners by at least not posting something on his website to at least let his readers know whats going on or even posting in his forum from time to time. he works with computers - surely being on a computer means he can just post a hi how are you? once in a while.

Posted by arbok at September 11, 2006 07:58 PM

That's why Steve wants columnists. To fill the gaps of the webpage. Given the choice of job and blog, job wins. A constructive criticism would be to apply for columnist, and add your own special take on video gaming.

Posted by Robb at September 15, 2006 12:41 PM

Well people applied at the end of August, he should have most spots filled by now. I was going to apply and I filled out most of it but I got to a point where I was like, this is to much reasponsibility for someone whos got college stuff to deal with (I'm a senior in high school) so I didn't apply. Anyway I'm still waiting for Steve! Just hope he picks back up the podcasts or gets some one else to do them.

Posted by Ian at September 15, 2006 11:17 PM

A whole month without a podcast! I'm very surpised that he has not put anthing up yet, this is got to be a first for Gaming Steve. At this rate, maybe there will never be another Gaming Steve post and this is the end of the website. Well I hope not!

Posted by Josh at September 16, 2006 06:55 PM

I have a theory that Gaming Steve has become an agent of Microsoft. He started with good intentions, excited by Spore, but as his podcast gained popularity, he gained the attention of Microsoft, who soilicited his services to promote the launch of the Xbox 360.

What else could explain dry and boring interviews with the likes of Chris Satchell, Peter Moore, and Greg Canessa? What else could explain the anti-Sony bias that eventually crept into the podcast? What else could explain the lack of podcasts when Nintendo's Wii is nearing release? I'm sure feeble excuses could be made, but the most logical explanation is that Gaming Steve has become a stool for Microsoft.

Promoting Microsoft and being a Microsoft fanboy is of course fine. But when it is done without disclosure, especially if financial rewards are being received, then all journalistic integrity is dead.

Posted by Laurence at September 16, 2006 10:04 PM

Oh my god Laurence thats just libel, and stupid libel at that, A Microsoft fanboy? Are you kidding? He's ripping into Sony because thats what the ENTIRE WORLD is doing right now, and they deserve it because of all their arrogance. Microsoft is getting more interviews BECAUSE THEY'RE OPEN. Gaming Steve had repeatedly stated he would love for a Sony or Nintendo representative to come onto his show, but neither ever do, because they're closed and frankly do not appear to care about the community, as Microsoft has clearly shown that they do. Also, the interviews with Greg Canessa and Peter Moore are fantastic, they're funny and informative. I'd love to hear from someone on Sony's point of view or Reggie from Nintendo, but they do not accept his requests for interviews.

Gaming Steve has also repeatedly lauded the Wii's innovative aspects and has blasted Microsoft when they deserved it over things like the early days of the X360 when the console didn't have things like background downloading.

I would kindly recommend that you remove your head from your ass before you give your prostate cancer from having something so stupid in close proximity to it.

Posted by Sander at September 17, 2006 01:12 AM

@Laurence

I see what you mean but I still think your wrong. Lately there hasn't been much good to say about Sony and all they've been doing is making stuff worse for themselves and Steve has repeatedly talked about how much he loves his DS and wants a Wii. He still goes over PC stuff and doesn't always praise MS/Xbox things. MS is just making it easier to get bloggers and journalist certain things like that BFMEII interview Steve ran. Also the blogger bus at E3. Sony and Nintendo haven't embraced the blogging community at all like MS has and you can really only go wtih what you have access to. If Steve can't get his hands on a PS3 or Wii or have Nintendo or Sony invite him to some things then what is he supposed to do? Not cover the MS stuff?

Posted by Ian at September 17, 2006 02:38 AM

The problem is that Steve declines to say just what his relationship is with Microsoft. Does he accept free trips to tour their offices and interview their folks (I've asked and he's declined (so far) to comment)? Is he working on a game project for them now that he has gotten to know the gang over at MS (my own pet theory)? The truth is, until Steve finally comes out and discloses what, if any, relationship he has with MS, opinions like Laurence's are totally valid. That said, this is a blog, not a magazine, and Steve can do whatever he wants (it's when he equates his blog with any true journalistic endeavor that he crosses a line).

Posted by FrankS at September 17, 2006 11:22 AM

I rememeber when i used jump out of my bed on tuesdays morning knowing that my favourite podcast would be expecting me to dowload it..i guess those days are gone..just a part of my life ..a memory, how sad, im gonna tell my kids in 15 or 20 years .that there was a man called Stephen Glicker who used to record the best podcast of his time , but then once,he let all us down ,with no explication whatsoever..we gonna miss u steve..

Posted by Mike at September 19, 2006 09:58 AM

Indeed it is pleasurable to have your presence now resuming duty after such a long venture in which we did not have the honour. This is one of our more exquisite podcasts, Stephen.

I will be at Thunderbird Park tommorow at the dark bench, if you want to interview me nows your chance. It would be most honouring to render a pleasing podcast.

Toodals.....

---Muffykins----

Posted by MuffykinHarrison at September 19, 2006 04:09 PM

Its safe to say Gaming Steve wont be the same, at least for a long while. And its sad too. I got fast internet right before the podcast crashed.

Posted by The Orthan at September 21, 2006 08:13 PM

The saddest part for me is I only started listening about 10 episodes ago, so I never really knew what the weekly podcast was like. I have had time to listen to every single one of you podcasts though steve, but even if its only 20 minute episodes give us somthing!

Posted by Evil Lil Spore at September 23, 2006 10:01 AM

is he waiting till after X06 or is this podcast just dead?

Posted by kevo999 at September 26, 2006 06:41 PM

I think it's dead. It would take 2 minutes to put something on the front page to let his community know that he's still around. This shows a lack of respect for the community and I'm bolting. There's plenty other fish in this particular ocean.

Posted by Joel Hulsey at September 27, 2006 12:52 PM

Did Gaming Steve go to TGS? He must be lost there.

Posted by David at September 27, 2006 01:01 PM

@Joel Hulsey

agreed. I'm almost ready to bolt, but I guess I'll keep sticking around. Yes, what's so difficult about posting something really quick?

Posted by DrJiggs at September 28, 2006 12:41 AM

I hope for the sake of the site that Steve grabs something unique from X06 to report.
The lack of -anything- from the man himself has become a fair worry in the community.

Posted by Gauphastus at September 28, 2006 03:19 AM

I'd guess some of the bitching is making it not so much fun for someone who is essentially taking time out his life to provide what is a free quality cast. Less of the "im off" comments... just leave and give the guy a break, or better yet... go out yourself all over the place and get/setup interviews from everyone every month/week/whatever and make your own show for gratis... we'l see how long you keep it up.

Great show as always steve, dont let people get you down, do it if you feel like it and are getting something out of it still. Some appreciate whatever you put up/when you do. cia ;)

Posted by whenyoubite at September 28, 2006 10:06 AM

Whenyoubite, look at it from a different perpective. It wasn't being disrespectful to Steve, he is showing an amzing amount of disrespect towards the community that built him up. Again, I'm not asking for another show, just a 1-minute note on the front page saying what is going on. It really is not too much to ask. If he has that little amount of respect for his listeners, then he doesn't deserve their loyalty. Nobody literally does not have a spare minute over the course of a month. And the whole "it's free so suck it down" thing is really lame. I can give you 20 podcasts/web comics, etc. that are free, and if they even miss a day they have posts all over saying what happened. Those are folks who respect their communities.

Posted by Joel Hulsey at September 28, 2006 01:11 PM

As far as we know Steve works for free. I certainly believe he does not - if he isn't getting some serious financial benefits from the pro-Microsoft/anti-Sony slant that has dominated the podcasts since E3, then something is funny.

Oh, and to the Steve fanboys who say that Steve cannot be in the pocket of Microsoft because he expresses enthusiasm towards Nintendo - Peter Moore was in the news today promoting the idea of 'Wii60'. The idea is that for the price of a PS3, you can buy an Xbox and a Wii and be ahead. So Steve is only towing company policy by continuing to favourably support Nintendo.

Posted by Laurence at September 29, 2006 02:54 AM

I agree that a short note with info about what's going on would be helpful for all the fans, but to all the mean people saying how thay are bolting or whatever, I'm sure you won't be missed.

Posted by Joby at September 29, 2006 11:16 AM

Steve, this is bad community karma here. Might be time to emerge, or it'll be too late.

Posted by prognosticator at September 30, 2006 12:50 AM

Somehow, I don't even think he's paying attention. It's a shame...

Posted by Joel Hulsey at September 30, 2006 05:46 PM

maybe steve has got something going on in his personal life right now, games are not everything you know.
so stop your bitching and whining. jeez....

Posted by carl at October 1, 2006 07:08 AM

Stick a fork in Steve. Anyone who is too busy to spend 30 seconds letting thousands of listeners know what's up is hardly worth the effort I'm expending to type this.
