Sweet! Steve, you gotta read up on your hardware more before you say this stuff, not to critize, but the market is confused enough as it is. Blu-ray drives can read and write to DVD+R/W and DVD-R/W's. They also can read CD's (though not all drives can write to CD's. They cannot however read HD-DVDs. And further, the single layer disks are both R and RW and have a capacity of 25 gigs, while the dual layers, which also come in R and RW have a 50 gig capacity. Posted by Nitroflames at June 6, 2006 06:27 PMHey Nitroflames, Not sure what you're talking about as I didn't imply anything or refer to any of those technical specs you are talking about. And never would I say that Blu-ray and HD-DVD can read each other ... not sure what podcast you were listening to! The stats I on the drives I was talking about was directly from the Alienware builds, nothing more. Posted by Gaming Steve at June 6, 2006 07:31 PMVery very good! Nice to have you back!
Just an edit about the above post, sorry Steve, I misheard you, and the transfer rate for a 2x drive is 13.5 megabytes per second. Thats roughly 32 minutes to fill a 25 gig Blu Ray Disc. (sorry I'm a geek). Posted by Nitroflames at June 6, 2006 08:09 PMI love this stuff, Steve your the best! Keep it up! =) Posted by Ta at June 6, 2006 11:19 PMErrr...isn't the original Paper Mario for the N64? Posted by Fraeon at June 7, 2006 08:27 AMHeh, sorry. My bad. I just hear in the podcast that it's for the GC. :P Should learn to read, probably. Posted by Fraeon at June 7, 2006 08:30 AMI thought you were reviewing Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64? You are mentioning quite a few features that are only in the Gamecube version of Paper Mario, such as battling on a stage, turning into a paper airplane, etc. I guess you just could'nt remember what was what. Posted by ECUnlimited at June 7, 2006 09:50 AMGreat show as usual Steve, but 20 minutes of it was just people gushing and rambling on. Can't you edit down these voice mail things to only include the question? I don't care how much Joe Blow from Mexico likes the show, or how long he's been playing games, or what he's looking forward to. All of those mails go on for 30-60 seconds or longer when they could be trimmed to under 10. As it is, I can't listen to the end of your show because their voices and rambling bother me. No offense to anyone that may be reading. :D Posted by Lobster at June 7, 2006 10:30 AMThe voiceovers in Rise of Legends sound like Gaming Steve did them!! Posted by JImmy Beano at June 7, 2006 11:24 AMThe German translation of Rise of Legends is very good. So if you are from Germany you can delete "bad voiceovers" from Steves list of bad things about this game. Posted by Sagan at June 7, 2006 01:29 PMOh and could it be that you confuse Rome and Ceasar? Posted by Sagan at June 7, 2006 01:55 PMHey Steve. Great show, but could you edit that last post of Lobsters down to maybe one or two sentences? :-p Posted by Cruithne at June 7, 2006 06:09 PMI sort of agree with Lobster, less time spent listening to every person saying how great the show is and what their favourite colour is could mean a more in-depth game review. Or maybe even 2. Just to give you more time to rant or rave about features in the games you review :). Reviews have been lacking something in the last couple of shows imo. Everything else is cool as usual though. Thanks! Posted by swerv at June 7, 2006 06:48 PMHey Steve, try reading the Wheel of time now. Robert Jordan has only one book to go and the others are so huge it'll take that much time to read them anyway. GO WoT! By the way, love the show! Posted by Dragon_Reborn at June 7, 2006 07:15 PMSteve, this is a listener and game podcaster in the Seattle area. I would love to see you. I know where the MS gaming area is so I could come down and buy you dinner. How about that? Luke Posted by Luke at June 7, 2006 07:16 PMWoa, did all the text for the links get about 8 sizes smaller on this page? ^Not related directly to podcast. Posted by Shadowcreep at June 7, 2006 10:50 PMPaper Mario, I had forgotten about that game, its one I never finished (work happened and I forgot about it). Have to break it back out again when I can get away from Oblivion. As for the PS3, I agree, I was waiting for what was comimg on the ps3 because I love Japanese RPGs. I saw the prices and became interested in the 360 because I wasn't looking at it beforehand. I think the figures for Christmas 2007 (and prices) will be interesting because that will be the first time they compete for the christmas $$$ (ps3 will sell out in 2006 thats a given). Posted by Nigel at June 7, 2006 10:54 PMWait, you went to Microsoft to talk about Battle for Middle Earth 2. But isn't that game developed/published by EA? Posted by P4p3Rc1iP at June 8, 2006 07:50 AMSteve -- Long-time listener, first-time poster. I was hoping that perhaps you could clarify a comment you made in your most recent podcast (great podcast, as always, by the way). You mentioned that Microsoft was flying you to Seattle to tour their game studios. Did you literally mean they are paying for the trip? If so, don't you think this creates a conflict of interest for you (or at least the perception of one)? One of the reasons I -- and I'm assuming most of the many other fans you have -- enjoy your podcasts so much is because they are so refreshingly unbiased; you tell it like it is. We trust you. But once Microsoft starts flying you across the country and putting you up in Seattle hotels (and there are some nice ones in Seattle), you're on a slippery slope. Give a negative review to a Microsoft product and watch your access disappear (and to be sure, as you say in this last podcast, Microsoft already gives you far better access than Nintendo and Sony -- it would stink to lose that, and I'd think MS knows that). I work in magazines myself (though not gamer magazines) and at every publication I have ever worked at we've been warned from day one never, under any circumstances, to accept a trip from someone we're writing about, because it could damage our credibility. You've got a great blog -- and perhaps the best gaming podcast out there -- and I'd hate to see you start going down that slippery slope where you want the trips and access coming and we're left wondering just how good Rise of Legends and XBox Arcade really are? Thanks for hearing me out -- and thanks again for the (so far :)) great Podcast. ...frank
Great Podcast as always, Steve. Keep it up. Posted by Mangerman at June 8, 2006 01:37 PMIf you are going to reference data such as MMOchart as accurate you should read the info behind it first. Anyone with post high school charting and data collection should realize how it is inherently inaccurate. You can't compare games on different terms then compare the results directly. Also he is clearly stated that the chart is never goign to be accurate and you should mention that. If you don't understand the back info for a chart then you shouldn't use it. World of Warcraft is a hugely popular game, but use accurate data not misleading information. Posted by MMOCHART at June 10, 2006 08:22 PMSteve, Yes are your recommending the N64 or The NGC??? Seems like an N64 would be hard to find the system and games. Thanks Steve! Great Show! --Shoki Posted by Shoki at June 12, 2006 06:52 PMHey Steve, you read my email in this show :) Thanks! But you missread one thing. I'm from SERBIA not from SIBERIA  hahaha Nah you can find N64 consoles on eBay, at GameStop, at EBGames, or Amazon.com even for very cheap. Posted by DrJiggs at June 13, 2006 03:10 PMDid anyone else hear Steve say its taking him an hour and a half to burn a DVD. Steve what you using man, I can crank em out in like 5 minues or so. Posted by Jman at June 13, 2006 03:43 PMPapermario is now a good price and it was a game I was gonna pick up...no excuse not to now ! Posted by Dave Sodee at June 14, 2006 12:02 PMWhy do you put out so few podcasts per month? Posted by JImmy Beano at June 15, 2006 03:09 PMWheres the next show!!! unlike some people i like the length and i like hearing what people think about the show. So dont listen to lobster and swerv. There dumb Posted by racingfreak92 at June 15, 2006 03:37 PMLearn to read. Hearing Steve = good, hearing everyone who sends in a voice question say some random stuff instead of just asking a question is bad. Posted by swerv at June 15, 2006 04:09 PMOh and 'there' should be 'they're' as in 'they are'. I win the internet! Posted by swerv at June 15, 2006 04:10 PMDear Steve: Do the show the way you want to at the pace that's best for you. I'll wait by patiently as I look forward to the next installment of your FREE podcast Posted by SharpMonkey at June 16, 2006 03:24 PM@P4p3Rc1iP Post a comment
