Awesome, Downloading right now can't wait to listen. I thought it was great when you and Chris G did the podcast at GDC together so I am really looking forward to this. Thanks for taking the time to do these for us :) Posted by Dan at May 11, 2006 03:30 AMDownloading... Why are you complaining about ps3 priceing. Take x360 and add HD-DVD and then try to look at the prices... People forget that ps3 has a great value in it's $599. Posted by DieH@rd at May 11, 2006 04:45 AMTwo anti-Sony Nintendo-fanboys. "You know what", Steve? This was the last Gaming Steve podcast. No, not for you. For me. Posted by OndrejSc at May 11, 2006 06:48 AMWow....back to back post by two idiot Sony fanboys that can't face the truth. Sony = Fony Yet another anti-Sony NintendoSteve podcast. I think i'll skip this one, thanks. Posted by Khash at May 11, 2006 09:26 AMYou know, it's funny when people get mad at Steve because he's fair and balanced. "How dare he like Nintendo, and say that GameCube was his favorite system last generation! It's all lies I tell you lies!!!!!" The truth of the matter is he's the most fair and well-balanced guy concerning video games that I know of. He likes GOOD games, and all three companies make those. Why can't he praise companies that do it well and criticize those may not of done it so well at a given point in time? Sheesh... Posted by SenseiJinx at May 11, 2006 09:30 AMThe guest hosts never seem to "get it" like Steve does. It's kind of frustrating listening to the half-thought-out opinions of the guests. This Joystiq guy's Mac snobbery (and I am a Mac user (and a huge fan of Joystiq)) just doesn't add anything to the Live Anywhere discussion other than that he's being obtuse and is unable to understand the value. I don't want to sound like I'm brown-nosing, but all these guys succeed in doing is to make me appreciate Steve's inherent understanding of the industry even more. Posted by T at May 11, 2006 09:38 AMI'm one of those people who thought "I'll get the PS3 because the new GTA will come out 6-9 months before the 360." Now I probably won't get the PS3 for a year or so. Price drop anyone? I thought the Sony's presentation sucked, but after listening to the podcast I can see where OndrejSc got annoyed by the anti-sony comments (although over reacted a bit). I thought most of the comments were justified, but it seemed Steve just dumped on everything Sony where Chris tried to keep an open mind (ie eye-toy demo and motion sensor on controller). Overall a good podcast. Look forward to tonights!
Point being... show some emotion boys! Posted by JImmy Beano at May 11, 2006 10:18 AMGreat podcast, though Chris is a bit of a mic hog :-) I'd rather hear more of Steve's fun and emotional content than Chris' dry and snooty breakdown. More Steve! Posted by XboxMan at May 11, 2006 11:46 AMChris keeps interrupting Steve, I hope he isn't going to be guest host all week! Posted by Mork at May 11, 2006 11:56 AMYay! The E3 podcast I was looking forward to the most. Great Podcast Steve I enjoyed it. And to the Sony fanboys ... did you Listen to the entire podcast? They didnt Dis the PS3 like it was trash they said the "Showing" at E3 was crap but they said the system had alot going for it they just pointed out Sonys bad way of showing it, but yea they were right about 1 thing $700 bucks is just weeee bit to much Posted by evilsbane at May 11, 2006 01:21 PMDoes anyone know the release date for Fable 2? I heard the game is supposed to have all sorts of forest animals to slaughter and eat, heh heh! Posted by James Shaker at May 11, 2006 02:28 PMI'm worried about the Wii, its an amazing controller and all, but the controller is also gonna hold it back I think. I think it will limit the amount and variety of games you will be able to play. Can you imagine playing an RPG with that controller?(I mean your regular RPGS like FF, SO, DC, Tales etc.) Its sad about the cost, but I'm buying a PS3 despite the cost, one way or antoher. I'm a big fan of FF and Sonic(As well as other PS3 games, PS3s games selection will be the best), and the Wii Sonic doesnt look that good. Also steve understands the gaming industry waaay better, he's more positive, and he understands that games should be about gameplay. I still enjoy digimon world 1 more than digimon world 4 despite the huge graphical difference. :P Posted by Nathan at May 11, 2006 02:35 PMgreat podcast. to the sony fanboys. did you happen to watch their keynote it was terrible. 600 dollars before tax and a game is way too much to be competitive especially when they didnt show anything mindblowing. and the thing with the hd dvd drive is if people dont want it, cause their entertainment systems dont have high def, they don't have to buy the add on, saving them money. and for the joker who said something bout the memory slots, ihear the cheaper systems if you consider that cheap in the least bit wont have slots for em, and iread it lacked hdmi, but i digress. great podcast keep up the great work Posted by Visibleone at May 11, 2006 03:14 PMGeez..and not a word about Spore...
Do podcasts with just you, Steve. Chris sounds like he thinks he knows everything and he's being a snob about everything. Posted by shen at May 11, 2006 03:47 PMIF YOU WANT YOU CAN ALWAYS LISTEN TO "MOUTHPIECE" OH SORRY, I MEANT MAJOR NELSON!!!! I BET HIS OPINIONS ABOUT 360 ARE REALLY UNBIASED!!! my point is, steve is pretty fair, he gave a fair review of each and then gave HIS PERSONAL choice of system. Quit yer B****** Posted by JamesMoo2090 at May 11, 2006 03:49 PM1 podcast per E3 day!??!!? Pleasure overload! Posted by Beo at May 11, 2006 04:24 PMGreat podcast, but I have to agree with some of the previous posters that this "Chris" guy was a mike hog and did interupt Steve quite a few times, which in my opinion was rather rude. It seemed like this "Chris" guy was talking 65% of the time with that being said I hope the next guest isnt as rude. Posted by Psychic_Dude at May 11, 2006 04:31 PMJust to reply to Khash's comment, ye the podcast might come across as anti-Sony, but it's the truth. Posted by Koorb at May 11, 2006 04:38 PMI don't need Steve to tell me what I should and shouldn't like. His podcasts always sound like he's trying to convince people they're wrong for enjoying the PS2 and PSP. I know how I feel about my PSP. Nothing Steve, or anyone else, says is gonna change my mind. Posted by Khash at May 11, 2006 04:45 PMI thought it was a good podcast. I was especially happy to hear that Steve thought the wii-mote wasn't very hard to use because i've read articles from people who thought it was really different and difficult to get used to. I think all the points against sony are very important and not overexaggerated. Lets face it, the ps3 is damned expensive. The fact that sony did a crappy job of showing it off will definately hurt them. In the end, though, it won't be the flashy graphics that attract gamers to ps3, it'll be the games. They could release a system will graphics that are inferior to the xbox 360 and they would still probably dominate. Unfortunately, because of the huge price tag that goes with all the fancy crap in it, it will turn off many gamers. Posted by cpugeek13 at May 11, 2006 04:47 PMGreat podcast Steve. I didn't mind chris, it's nice to have guest speakers from time to time. Posted by ilikesanta at May 11, 2006 04:51 PMThat's the other thing I was going to say, I didn't understand why Chris seemed to love the ablility to download music onto your PS3, just dosne't seem that big of deal to me. Posted by ilikesanta at May 11, 2006 05:01 PMI listen to Gaming Steve's podcasts because I enjoy listening to his views about the gaming industry and it's products and the interviews he does. tbh I didn't really enjoy the GDC podcasts as much as usual because of the other guys and I didn't really think much of the joystiq guy then and he's just as bad now. If I wanted to listen to him I'd look up the joystiq website. Please stop polluting your cool podcast with co-presenters. Posted by swerv at May 11, 2006 05:11 PMI don't think I'll finish listening to this podcast (I got about 15 minutes in to it). You see_____ um ____ It is just that ____ it __ seems that one of the ___ hosts ___ has ___ this ___ need ____ to think about ___ what he ___ might __ um __ say __ before each word leaves his mouth. Additionally ____ um (breathe) what he says must____ have the ____ word ____ 'next-gen' __ in each __ um _ paragraph. Is there a way to play a podcast at 45 so I can at least get through it faster? Steve, good podcast on your side, but the other guy was painful. -Lego Posted by LegodragonXP at May 11, 2006 05:40 PM$600 for a games console is never good value when you're going to be spending $60 each for games on top of that. Maybe even more because of the Blu-Ray discs being a hell of a lot more expensive than DVDs. At least with the 360 if you don't want to play HD discs on it you don't have to pay $xxx for the drive, and if you do it'll probably still be cheaper than the PS3. Not to mention that at least if you buy the cheaper 360 it's not permanently crippled like the $500 PS3 is. I couldn't care less about the Blu-Ray playback because I intend to buy standalone players like I always do. Has there been a console with movie playback that hasn't sucked nuts next to a standalone? PS2? Sucked and turned green through RGB. Xbox? Sucked. Xbox 360? Sucked. Posted by Olly at May 11, 2006 07:05 PMA lot of ignorant knee jerk reaction comments flying through here. It's amazing the power that a brand name can wield. I think some posters are getting Steve confused with a PR guy. He's not telling us what to think like the suits presenting on stage at E3. He only offers his insight as someone with a backround in the industy, and more importantly as a avid game player himself. People need to stop acting like any negative commment against their brand loyalty is going to shatter their obtuse consumer driven lives. Posted by Merton at May 11, 2006 07:11 PMAnti-Sony Fan Boys? That guy with Steve was such a $ony fan boy. He kept saying how $ony would pull off every thing and even this thing sucked they would get it right and rule the world. And dont forget about anti windows rant and how great his Mac is. He was a Clear Sony Fan boy. Posted by akaBigWurm at May 11, 2006 07:17 PMY'know, after listening to your comments about the PS3 gaining more of a foothold in Japan while the 360 takes up their market share in America... I highly doubt it. One of the reasons that the Xbox sold awfully in Japan was its size...The 360 is noticeably smaller than the PS3. One of the major downfalls of the Xbox was that it lacked Japanese games for the Japanese market, but that's being reversed this time around, especially with titles like Ninety-Nine Nights, and of course, the holy grail of games with excellent production teams: Blue Dragon. Of course, the fact that Sony has currently botched just about every attempt to further the PS3 in the public market certainly helps the 360 look more attractive to all buyers, especially with the PS3's ridiculous price tag. Long story short? I don't think so. Posted by Stangmar at May 11, 2006 07:42 PM@Stangmar To go along with your size comment, Steve and Chris both said in this podcast that the PS3 is a monster and is larger than the 360. Just pointing that out. Posted by DrJiggs at May 11, 2006 09:21 PMI was surprised how Sony dropped the ball. You think they would of been more prepared for this huge E3. I think I will pass on the ps3 myself. I may actually go the Wii route as I too have been happy with the GC. I am 40, have 2 boys who enjoy it and always enjoyed Nintendo's games. I have a high end pc for my serious side..... The ps3 cost too much period. I could care less about blu ray. I don't want a multimedia machine I want a game console. The 360 I could own depending on what comes to it later. I have to say I was not sure if MS did the right thing at their launch but it looks like they did a smart thing after all. Posted by Dave Sodee at May 11, 2006 09:48 PMGood stuff Steve! Yeh it seems like your leaning some but hey your a gamer and you know what you like so... Keep these coming and express how you REALLY feel about everything like always. I mean the PS3... Sony invested SO MUCH into it that I do think they are in for the long haul with the system. That said, I don't think Microsoft has pushed hard enough with the 360 and we'll be seeing a new version of the X-Box before Sony works towards doing a PS4. I think folks with 360's will be buying new systems soon (Sooner then those who buy PS3's) which makes the value a little less attractive for me. The way I see it is that Sony is giving you a system that will be growing with up coming techonolgy where as the other systems are more related to currenty tech. Its a system that will have plenty of function in the long term which I think was smart on their part. Microsoft and Nintendo are more about focusing the here and now which I think makes people feel more "safe". You just want games right now fine, enjoy those consoles. But for those willing to "bite the bullet" the PS3 will be worth every cent throughout its entire system life. Posted by Jah at May 11, 2006 11:21 PMMan there are alot of sony fanboys in these comments :P I loved the podcast steve. Can't wait for the next one and Chris was a great cohost IMHO :) -Dan Posted by Dan at May 12, 2006 12:16 AMPlease Steve do not have Chris Grant again on your podcast. He cannot even complete his own thoughts, and what makes it worse is his constant um, yeah, emmm, uhhhhh... There are radio voices and this man simply does not have one. Posted by Kooper at May 12, 2006 12:21 AMthis chris, is a moron a closet sony fanboy. Posted by phantomoz49 at May 12, 2006 12:52 AMHey, were all gamers here. I doesn't matter if you consider yourself a Sony "fanboy" or a Nintendo "fanboy". Fact is, Steve is working hard to bring us the best info he can while the rest of us just sit around. Besides, he is entitled an opinion anyway. Posted by WoozleWazzle at May 12, 2006 01:44 AMGood podcast Steve. I look forward to tonight's podcast! Posted by Brian at May 12, 2006 02:02 AMGreat informative cast Steve. Looking forward to tomorrows. I didn't like Chris though, he seemed to, elitist. He kept cutting you off, I want to listen to Gaming Steve, not some elitist kid. Posted by The Diggity Diggity O at May 12, 2006 07:22 AMWhy do people get so up in arms about when someone says something against there mighty console choice. "ZOMG STEVE LEAVE SONY ALONE!!!" Steve tells it like it is, sony's presentation sucked. He cant sugar coat it for you all. I like pure steve podcasts but if thats not gonna happen get rid of Macman. Posted by Svan at May 12, 2006 09:33 AMThanks for having me on Steve! Listening to it over again, yeah. I can't seem to spit it out! By Wednesday evening, exhaustion began to set in. I don't know what I would have sounded like had this been Friday night! Sorry for being such a mic-hog! Me=not a good radio personality. Steve=better. :) Posted by C. Grant at May 14, 2006 08:26 PM |
