Gaming Steve Episode 48 - 04.18.2006

Ticket to RideToday I have a real treat as I finally managed to figure out a way to mix boardgames with video games as I got a chance to sit down and chat with Mark Kaufmann, Vice-President of Days of Wonder and makers of several successful boardgames as well as the new the Ticket to Ride: The Computer Game.

Mark and I talk about how he got into this business, what it takes to startup a boardgame company in North America, why they're jumping into the computer game market, as well as much more. Enjoy!

Well whatever floats your boat Steve, personally I'm sticking with electronic entertainment.

Posted by Phychic_Dude at April 18, 2006 06:15 PM

Oh, come on a short show? Oh well, at least its short because it's an interview for a game. But the next one should be at least 1.5 hours. That's why I see this as the best RSS feed on the net.

Great show. I guess I will have to give this a try. It would be a nice change of pace from my friend's and I's normal board game of choice, Axis & Allies.

Excellent, one of the best shows I have hared you do.

Posted by Koorb at April 18, 2006 07:21 PM

Sounds like this company's games would port over great to the Xbox Live Arcade - have they considered this???

Well Steve. The next show better be longer, I work midnights, and your views and opinions are sometimes entertaining to listen to. However, I'm not the BORED game type. Although this ticket to ride addiction you seem to have makes me want to try the game, just because you keep raving about how fantasically good it is. But please, I crave electronic entertainment news, not board game news.

What's the German site you referred to where you can play BoardGames? I didn't understand it when either of you said it ;).

Posted by Sagan at April 19, 2006 06:32 AM

I find it funny how Mark can't pronounce the German name of his own game correctly :P It's called Zug um Zug, so if you pronounce it in English, what he's saying would be correct. This means he probably just read the title, which is kinda sad.

Sorry but yawnsville today. I've been an avid listener of the show for around six months but once I understood what the entire podcast was about this morning I switched off...

I know Ticket To Ride has been brought out as a computer game but that was not the reason behind todays show was it? More like an excuse to bring your love of boardgames into the show.

Wake me up when the topic is video games once again.....

Posted by asleep at April 19, 2006 06:58 PM

You are right, asleep. Board games = snoozefest. Get back to videogames!

Posted by MO at April 19, 2006 07:19 PM

Is it really that big of a deal for there to be a show on board games? Theres been a few times that I opted (well, not opted, more like couldn't play video games at the time) to play a board game, and loved it.

HerosQuest, now thats a helluva good time.

LOL, Mark Kaufman sounds just like Adam West. :D

Hey, if you dont like it don't listen/

As Steve said he is unwell, sick, not feeling good. So it was good of him to do a show.

Posted by Svan at April 20, 2006 08:06 AM

There's no news coming out? Why don't you cover Hellgate: London a bit, Steve?

To be honest, I skipped through this entire show and was dismayed to find the WHOLE THING was the interview. Mixing things up is all well and good but I really prefer the video game stuff.

Get Well Soon Gaming-Steve!

I thought it was a great show. It gives a perpective on a different aspect of computer games. Not everyone likes the same style of game.

Some people just don't get it.
there are a ton of podcasts about games on the net, but you chose Gaming Steve, why?

Because of his presentation and enthusiasm, that's why, because Steve is a natural broadcaster.
As it happens, I like board games, used to play them a lot, but I'd still have listened to the show.I'd listen to Steve reading his shopping list (just to hear him say how many different products were his favourite products of all time)
I sound like such a suck up, but it's true, if people can bitch, then I can come here and say how much I enjoyed the show.
Nobody forces you to listen, but even more importantly, no one forces Steve to do these shows, I think we're lucky to have them.

If I have one problem it's this.

I want to buy the damn game, but I don't know which version to go for?
Any advice Steve?

Posted by Cruithne at April 21, 2006 05:47 PM

Board games not really my thing. Here's to hoping that the show gets back to the usual format for the next episode.

Speaking of which, when's the review for Oblivion?
