April 18, 2006Gaming Steve Episode 48 - 04.18.2006 Today I have a real treat as I finally managed to figure out a way to mix boardgames with video games as I got a chance to sit down and chat with Mark Kaufmann, Vice-President of Days of Wonder and makers of several successful boardgames as well as the new the Ticket to Ride: The Computer Game.Mark and I talk about how he got into this business, what it takes to startup a boardgame company in North America, why they're jumping into the computer game market, as well as much more. Enjoy!

All this talk of Ticket to Ride I may have to go try it out. Thanks, Steve. Geez. Posted by MotorbreathX at April 18, 2006 06:07 PMWell whatever floats your boat Steve, personally I'm sticking with electronic entertainment. Posted by Phychic_Dude at April 18, 2006 06:15 PMOh, come on a short show? Oh well, at least its short because it's an interview for a game. But the next one should be at least 1.5 hours. That's why I see this as the best RSS feed on the net. Posted by MO at April 18, 2006 06:34 PMGreat show. I guess I will have to give this a try. It would be a nice change of pace from my friend's and I's normal board game of choice, Axis & Allies. Posted by Sudoh Kyoichi at April 18, 2006 07:20 PMExcellent, one of the best shows I have hared you do. Posted by Koorb at April 18, 2006 07:21 PMSounds like this company's games would port over great to the Xbox Live Arcade - have they considered this??? Posted by Paul at April 18, 2006 08:16 PMWell Steve. The next show better be longer, I work midnights, and your views and opinions are sometimes entertaining to listen to. However, I'm not the BORED game type. Although this ticket to ride addiction you seem to have makes me want to try the game, just because you keep raving about how fantasically good it is. But please, I crave electronic entertainment news, not board game news. Olin Posted by The Diggity Diggity O at April 19, 2006 03:21 AMWhat's the German site you referred to where you can play BoardGames? I didn't understand it when either of you said it ;). Posted by Sagan at April 19, 2006 06:32 AMI find it funny how Mark can't pronounce the German name of his own game correctly :P It's called Zug um Zug, so if you pronounce it in English, what he's saying would be correct. This means he probably just read the title, which is kinda sad. Posted by FTH at April 19, 2006 03:07 PMSorry but yawnsville today. I've been an avid listener of the show for around six months but once I understood what the entire podcast was about this morning I switched off... I know Ticket To Ride has been brought out as a computer game but that was not the reason behind todays show was it? More like an excuse to bring your love of boardgames into the show. Wake me up when the topic is video games once again..... Posted by asleep at April 19, 2006 06:58 PMYou are right, asleep. Board games = snoozefest. Get back to videogames! Posted by MO at April 19, 2006 07:19 PMIs it really that big of a deal for there to be a show on board games? Theres been a few times that I opted (well, not opted, more like couldn't play video games at the time) to play a board game, and loved it. HerosQuest, now thats a helluva good time. Posted by The Orthan at April 19, 2006 08:04 PMLOL, Mark Kaufman sounds just like Adam West. :D Hey, if you dont like it don't listen/ As Steve said he is unwell, sick, not feeling good. So it was good of him to do a show. Posted by Svan at April 20, 2006 08:06 AMThere's no news coming out? Why don't you cover Hellgate: London a bit, Steve? To be honest, I skipped through this entire show and was dismayed to find the WHOLE THING was the interview. Mixing things up is all well and good but I really prefer the video game stuff. Posted by Lobster at April 20, 2006 12:21 PMGet Well Soon Gaming-Steve! Posted by ph47 at April 20, 2006 04:34 PMI thought it was a great show. It gives a perpective on a different aspect of computer games. Not everyone likes the same style of game. Posted by Ben M. at April 21, 2006 08:49 AMSome people just don't get it. Because of his presentation and enthusiasm, that's why, because Steve is a natural broadcaster. If I have one problem it's this. I want to buy the damn game, but I don't know which version to go for? Board games not really my thing. Here's to hoping that the show gets back to the usual format for the next episode. Speaking of which, when's the review for Oblivion?
