Btw I currently reside in France and I am taking Advanced Physics courses, and even tho I do not know anyone else who listen to this podcast here I have no doubts regarding this podcast's popularity in Europe :D

Yeah, another podcast! I saw you had it on your site but didn't get to listen to it untill today. About the digital downloads and xbox arcade, hearing about it made me instantly think of magic the gathering online. Thousands of people play this game, spending hundreds of dollars each to buy virtual cards. This idea is brilliant, people seem more than willing to pay money for nothing.

Something about Alon rubs me the wrong way, used to lissen to their pod cast but it bugged me so I stoped. But it was a great cast - Makes me want to go to GDC next year.

Steve, great show. I discovered your show while waiting for Oblivion. Bethesda had a link to an interview you did, and since then I've listened to every cast. Keep up the good work, GDC sounds like an intresting affair. I wasn't a fan of Alon though from chatterbox. He came off sounding spoiled and VERY conceded, like he was 'Golden Boy' or something. It's ok though, I'm looking forward to next week's episode. That music you have cracks me up every time I hear it, I don't know if that music is supposed to be serious but if I need to laugh, I know where to turn. Keep it up!

Guilds are illegal in most MMORPGS in china... oh my god , how ridiculous that you may think in this way.I am here in China. Social clubs are not banned... omg, your thoughts still linger in the 70's or something? Our regulation just state that big gatherings such as a parade must be registered and permitted by the government. If you wanna hold a party or club in some big house, no one cares about that. And you must understand that updating chat filters doesn't only include the polictical sensitive things,but also includes the inappropriate words such as personal attack. Polictical isn't the whole life of chinese people, on the contrary, they don't care about it at all. But the CCP do make some stupid decisions from time to time. Such as regulating the BBS in Chinese major universities, but most chinese people consider this kind of thing the price they have to pay for the country to grow. We still deem it necessary to maintain some kind of high morality among the social environment, in exchange, people WILL have to lose parts of their freedom. BTW I really like your podcast! Though sometime things about china isn't true :)
Real life lawyers for the online guilds?? hahaha.. I think most of people don't have the needs and money to pay a lawyer, peopel in china always talk about people relationship, not the logical laws, most of the time things can be resolved through communications. We have a kind of potential law called morality, which is not always lying in the regulations. Yes, there's something that you cannot do, but it's not always stated in the law, but regulated by the people around you.highly regulated.... loosely play with other people. seems you have never played with any big guilds from china. if you have time , you should try to log on to one chinese wow server. big guilds are everywhere, with people no less than 1000 people of which at least 500 are average online. the problem is how you can join one of these guilds,:) they do have alot of restrcition, you can imagine that when a guild grow gigantic, lots of problems may happen, this restrictions are set by the players, such as the item distributing system just like you used in US. But trust me, no speakers of the guild or the lawyers. American Idol... haven't heard of that. But I think there's a chinese version of this called Super Girl(chao ji nv sheng) very popular in china. And I am sure CCP isn't afraid that it's growing more powerful than chinese government.:) These are afterall entertainments! These idols surely know nothing about governing a country. And about the paying money not to play the game: you have tried to mislead this concept, on the contrary, they are trying to play the game better by paying someone money, or, they are trying to buy some kind of honor , something to show off in the game. That is, they don't enjoy the process of playing, but they enjoy the result of possessing a better armor. That is the magical power of MMO, it established another criteria of being successful, in the non-realistic ways, to make lots of people who are not so successful in real life to enjoy being the tops.These phenomena results from several things: first, the government's advocates about being the best all in all. second, yes, as you have said and to which I confess: there's not so much outlets in china for the POOR people(do realize the capitalized word), for the rich people they can almost do anything they want, but strangely the really rich people just dont enjoy the "outlets", and most of them have an impending feeling and needs to change their country into a better one. And about the game CCP payed to develop, haha, yes, it's true, but it only indicates that CCP is gonna use MMO as a tool of it's advocates, of course they have failed(as you have asked),no one play that game, or games developed in this way. It's a joke in china, about how stupid some officers in the CCP can be. And in essential, the game was developed by Shanda(Nasdaque Shanda)trying to make their company look better. What you see is the government paying money,who knows, from what info I got is that there's somekind of bribery(what we call grey incomes) in the process. And the result is a big ecomic entity trying to use the government and vice versa to improve the fame, but they have both failed on this.

And to conclude with all I have said about the Chinese government: in china, If you are not among the mainstream, you are washed out. Right now gaming is definitely not among the main stream, though it's becoming more and more acceptable due to the big companies earning money on this and the big horde playing this.

The whole no clan thing certainly sounded a little unbelievable

I didn't really enjoy these few multi-presenter podcasts, mainly because the other guys talked a lot of crap, certainly not the intelligent gaming talk Gaming Steve's listeners are used to imo.
