February 23, 2006How Big Is Your Video Game Collection?
What I find most interesting on this list (besides the fact that he lists owning fifteen Sega 32X games) is the overview: Favored platform: PC$29,200 spent on these games? I shudder to think just how much I have spent over the years (for the record I believe that my collection is approximately the same size, just my PC game collection alone is well over 500 games). And then when you add in all the various systems, "gaming" PCs, video cards, and other accessories I've purchased over the years I imagine that I could have instead purchased a very nice car ... or two. How big is your video game collection? Can anyone beat T-BirD? Or how about this guy? Comments
They definitely have me beat, though I have the largest game collection of anyone I know (atleast until I starting selling some of it on ebay, $$ is tight right now lol). Last time I counted I was up around 150 games across 5 platforms (counting windows PC as 1). Posted by PC Dave at February 23, 2006 3:19 PM195 TOTAL GAMES I'm loving that Intellivision ][ he's got stashed on the bottom shelf by the Gamecube. That was our first console in my family household. We still have the system + all the games, although the contacts are worn to the point where you can't boot the cartridge half the time and you're jiggling the cartridge and blowing into the port and all that stuff. I'm one of those freaks that buys the Intellivision Lives! discs when they come out. This guy is my new hero. Posted by w0rf at February 23, 2006 4:33 PMAlso, my collection (based on what I've entered at IGN) is only around 150 games. Posted by w0rf at February 23, 2006 4:35 PMCan you imagine how much porn this guy has? Posted by Healimonster at February 23, 2006 4:36 PMwow there are less games in my local video game store. Posted by Admittance at February 23, 2006 5:34 PMSo far I have 3 games, I am really getting close wouldn't you say? Posted by jack at February 23, 2006 5:47 PMT-Bird's Estimated Value of his Collection is $29,200.00? Wow. Posted by sgore at February 23, 2006 5:48 PMI think I'd be more ashamed than proud...At least half of all the games released for a system are total crap. At least you're being a good consumer :) Posted by Naar at February 23, 2006 6:09 PMI'm sure he bought most of those games in a large sale/auction lots, specifically to collect them, that or he's independently wealthy. Posted by PC Dave at February 23, 2006 6:35 PMReady to be amazed? http://videogamecollectors.com/ Behold video game collecting at its finest! Posted by Rezrov at February 23, 2006 7:12 PMWow. He is one of the few proud owners of a Sega Saturn. Glad to know somebody other then me kept theirs. Posted by Relf at February 23, 2006 8:59 PMOnly some 90 bought when new computer games, pretty much stopped playing anything but certain few games at one point. Have bought a few from ebay too since. Two Amiga game I really regret not having bought new are Mega Lo Mania and Another World. I think those are in the Amiga top 5 and alltime top 20. Posted by ac at February 23, 2006 11:19 PMMan o man I do not come close, this is my collection which has some holes in it as well as I am pretty bad on updating when I get a new game. I collect as well but I've limited my purchasing for now to just consoles/PC's. I probably have about 15-20 or so consoles and "old PC" (Like an Atari XL, C64 etc) Plus about 300+ games (PC and consle) I would have had a LOT more but years ago when I went off to college my mom ended up having a massive yard sale which she sold off most of my collectables (and yes, since then I've forgiven mom). Some of the valuable stuff sold was about 30+ issues (bagged and sealed) of Electronic Games magazine from 1982-1985, my TRS-80 computer, my orginal C64 with about 200+ games. I think once my basement is finished I'll start collecting more. BTW T-Bird, nice collection! Posted by Djfinny at February 24, 2006 9:35 AMWow that is beyond belief, how long would it take it to actually calculate the value of a collection like that! I run a custom built access database to track all my media. If I include dvd movies and all software then my total comes to 1421. Just games is only 1103 so T-Bird still has me beat. Games cover 23 systems: (# of games) Well...pretty much none of these games are from "large auctions/lots" except a few Saturn and Genesis titles I got in one big order from ebay. Gamestats estimates each title at $25.00 - considering I have some I couldn't get rid of for $2.00, but others I could charge over $200.00 for, that's probably about accurate. None of this counts hardware costs however (and the PC upgrade cycle is a killer). Btw - many high priced rare games are saturn releases (Dragon Force 1 & 2, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Radiant Silvergun, for example). Technically, this list is incomplete, as Gamestats doesn't even have listings for about 30 titles I own. I try to avoid garbage games, so you'll find very few in there. I think the 32x could have been a pretty fair system -IF- it had gotten the support it deserved. Everything on there is legit. I either paid for it, it was given to me, or it is has been made freely available. Now if only I had time to actually play this stuff... And lastly - there is a small element of shame at times - the game room (officially called "the office") is like OFF Deep Woods (a strong insect repellant) for women ;) Posted by T-BirD at February 24, 2006 1:32 PMA link to some (year old) pictures: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/aus_tbird/album?.dir=f12f&.src=ph Posted by T-BirD at February 24, 2006 1:45 PMT-Bird, in your pic's is that an old Commodore 64 (model #1701 or 02) RGB monitor??? The color and sharpness on that tube was amazing (Probably still is great for old consoles) Unfortunately mine broke many years ago and I never got it fixed. DJ Posted by Djfinny at February 24, 2006 2:50 PMGood job, Steve! You took a forum posting and challenged it on the front page! :-) Posted by neo_aa at February 24, 2006 4:11 PMI have a brilliant program that helps you collect info about your games and puts it to a database called Games Collector and I have exported my games (current at time of posting the list!) to a website (http://www.angelfire.com/bc3/briancostelloe/). I haven't yet added my PC stuff to the list as I focus more on consoles and I am tempted to include my old Game & Watches to that list! Posted by Brian Costelloe at February 25, 2006 3:21 AMI've only got 39 games. 36 pc and 3 nes. I don't have (or want) any other platforms. I've basicly only got really "top" games. I don't game that much and only buy 5 or so a year, and those generally are the 5 best games that came out that year. I just don't play the rest. (Or I pirate them). I don't game that much as I used to anyways. Posted by P4p3Rc1iP at February 25, 2006 9:28 PMOwning them is easy, but where to find the time to play them all? I don't buy many games, well not compared to these guys :) but even then I've no enough time to play them as often as I want them. Games like Civilization 4, Galactic Civilizations 2, World of Warcraft, they eat time like there is no tomorrow. I find I start enjoying games like Oasis and Weird Worlds more and more because of my time constraints :) Games like Society are sure to get my attention now, I time there's a big market to be had in games that offer a lot of satisfaction for a little bit of needed time. The indies are after it already, I think the big publishers will also realize this some time soon. I interviewed Hugh Falk for OnTheSPoTGames last year and he had an insane amount of games. The interview and photos can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/s46dd If that link does not work, they are in the Retro PC Games SPoT at the forum. He was moving at the time and selling off some of his collection so chances are his collection isn't as large as it was in these photos. I can say I was thorougly impressed!! The other links posted by Steve are equally as impressive. Wow! Posted by Peench at February 27, 2006 4:44 PMHeres mine ;) http://users.ign.com/collection/XxaLiCeInChAiNsxX?showAsOthersSeeIt=1&objType=1&lid=1 That list is missing a few though, theres a couple DC games, PS1 games, Genesis games, and GB+GBA games. Posted by Ian at February 28, 2006 12:16 AMI own 5 games. I like to run and be active hence my decision not to be a loser and play video games while my ass expands exponentially by the week. Posted by rob at March 1, 2006 5:38 PMI have, at most, 500 games. This really is nothing to brag about. Please don't estimate how much money I sunk into them, that's just depressing. If I played all of my games over again, how long would it take? It boggles the mind. Posted by Robb at March 2, 2006 12:28 PMHey rob, welcome :) I happen to be 153 lbs, in pretty good shape, and right in the ideal body mass range for my age and height (actually, a bit on the low side even, but still "ideal"). Just FYI. I look forward to reading more of your posts :) Posted by T-BirD at March 4, 2006 7:30 PMHere collecting in Portland, OR. I'm known in all of the game stores around town...I have approximately 1400 games right now for Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Gamecube, N64, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Dreamcast, Atari 2600 and 7800, and of course including the 705 games I have for the NES. My wife looks like she's going to explode every time a new eBay shipment shows upo at our door - hehe. I'm currently converting my garage into an arcade to store and display all of them, as they're all in tubs under the bed right now. I dunno if it will look like Gibby's, but I'm shooting for gaming comfort also, with La Z Boys and all. Posted by PhReaK at March 5, 2006 2:39 AMI had a NES when I was a kid but didn't really took care of it. So right now, I only have 92 PC games (total owned and not played) and it's mostly RPGs.
