Awesome, thanks for the alert Steve. I actually have all of your podcasts stored on my iPod. Im leaving on a trip next week, so when you post your next podcast, im just going to put it on my iPod and listen to it on plane ride. :-)

please don't remove the option of downloading it the same old normal way. I don't want to subscribe to anything thank you.

Deep, I don't think Steve is going to do that. That would be like Nintendo going up to a new system that wasn't backwards compatible; it would damage the business.

Yeah I wouldn't think so, unless it costs him money to do it the old way, like for bandwidth or something. In which case I can see switching to a free service. I just hate having to sign up for things, plus I think it looks unprofessional to let a 3rd party power your distribution for something as simple as a podcast. Of course, if you listen to all the podcasts on your iPod, then it's cool for you. Me, I just download it, enjoy it, and throw it away. Quick and painless.

that's weird, there wasn't a duplicate BEFORE I posted that reply...

Don't worry, all the old methods will still be there. iTunes doesn't store the podcasts or anything like that, it's just an easy way to keep track of podcasts you're interested in (it's like an RSS Reader for podcasts).

Steve

Have you seen any increase in downloads since iTunes picked up podcasting?

Posted by Zaphod at July 7, 2005 9:18 AM

Yes, there are definitely more people downloading the podcasts since the new iTunes was launched last week. Not a crazy increase, but definitely an increase.

All you need now are some actual podcasts to listen to

Posted by dave at July 7, 2005 9:47 PM

Actually I have 15 Gaming Steve podcasts to listen to (to date). Only the last month of podcasts are published in iTunes, so if you want to view older ones click on the "Podcast" category on the left side to see/download them all.

Well, I like it in theory. It's unlikely I'll USE it (not a huge iTunes fan, too bloated), but if it makes it easier for others to get to the podcasts, then w00t.

Hmm... This DOES get me wondering, though, if Opera's intigrated RSS reader supports podcasting... I'll have to look into that.

Dude,

You think iTunes is bloated? It has a lot of features, but not at the cost of being a memory hog or anything. The application design is actally extremely lightweight. The whole thing is only a 10Mb download. With Smart playlists and other really nice features, it is the best free music player out there. It does everything so seemlessly. You can find a song in a second on the thing, and it is so good that almost every other player has borrowed heavily from it.

iTunes 7 is extremely bloated. I loaded it and it took 60Megs of RAM which is about what iTunes 6 took. That's not terrible. Then I switched to the album cover scrolling view and started sliding across. I have a few hundred albums. By the end iTunes took 400Megs of RAM. When I switched back to grid view it dropped to 250Megs. This is terrible! This is on a 1.5Gig or RAM system.
