July 14, 2005Divorced Couple Argue Over Virtual Items
According to the Chongqing Business Post, Mr. Wang from Chongqing and Ms. Ye from Huibei met last September on Shanda's online game Legend of Mir 2. Wang saved Ye's character from being killed by another player and the two quickly fell in love. The couple married at the end of October but decided to get a divorce this last June. During their marriage, the couple jointly played over ten Mir 2 accounts, attaining level 40 to 50 status for all of them, which I am told is quite high. All the characters and virtual items are estimated to be worth 40,000 to 50,000 Yuan, and Wang said that he wants to keep the accounts and virtual items and is willing to give their joint apartment to Ye. However, Ye wants to split the apartment and game items equally (how do you split an apartment?). Remember, if you are going to share your virtual items with your significant other make sure to write your name on all your items! Comments
Is anyone else noticing a pattern with all these incredibly strange stories involving video games?
I was thinking about this. A new MMPOG - The People's Court. An expansion pack for WOW, Evercrack, Matrix, and any other game where on-line judges (aka Uber-bosses) will rule on your possesions. All decisions are final and legally binding. Players can choose from paper-scissors-rock, coin-flip, and russian rolette to determine what happens to their stuff. The whole thing will be paid for through advertising dollars, the judges bench having a scrolling billboard on it. just a thought... This is... Odd... Posted by Zusteakai at July 14, 2005 10:41 AMjust one of those days... Just one of those things ya just gotta... mumble... "wow" and then go play an mmorpg. Thats life. -Zusteakai Posted by Zusteakai at July 14, 2005 10:44 AMHeh, so this is what that game clinic is going to be used for. Posted by Jujubee at July 14, 2005 10:52 AMSee... this is why I dont play MMORPGs any more. Cause weird stuff starts to happen to you and you lose touch with reality. Plus you cant stop playing it.... Posted by PatMan33 at July 14, 2005 11:26 AMSince Shanda owns the game and delivers the licenses, the objects and characters should return to Shanda if the two can't solve it on their own. As for a pattern? Yes, it's a slow news month for the media to go after GTA again and videogames in general. At least no children died in this story. Posted by Robert at July 14, 2005 4:20 PMI love the future. Don't you? Posted by lemurbouy at July 14, 2005 6:45 PMWait wait, so If I save a chick in a mmorpg there is a chance I'll get laid? *Note to self: Save any characters you are able to if they have boobs Posted by psilontech at July 15, 2005 4:05 AMJust rember, that most of them girl characters are played bye guys. Posted by salvatorus at July 15, 2005 6:36 AMYeah.
Geesh, who gets mad over stuff in games? ... It was SEVEN FUCKING SILVER that he lost me! Posted by Rand at July 15, 2005 10:39 AMThe Chinese keep getting weirder and weirder o_0 Posted by Indum at July 16, 2005 10:24 AMYou would think this could be solved with a simple copy&past and lets say $200 for the devs :D So silly Posted by CustodianV131 at July 16, 2005 1:32 PMIts stuff like this that makes me want to stop playing world of warcraft, I want nothing to do with it. Posted by Pk at July 16, 2005 11:28 PMGeebus. are you serious? this can't be true. and who falls in love over the video game??!!! i think cyber-matchmaking has reached a new low. Posted by goober at July 29, 2005 11:40 AMAlmost as scary as those Korean guys who don't sleep for a week and OD on coffee. The Internet Cafe guys find them dead in the toilet... scary shit. Posted by Gibsnag at July 29, 2005 12:31 PMThis is where E-Harmony.com could make a few bucks in the online community. If the chinese couple had filled out the free multipaged compatability psych form, this would have never happened. Also, since China is a communist country doesn't all property, under that doctrine, belong to the people (Gov't)? Posted by Ch53dVet at July 29, 2005 12:32 PMHaven't you heard about the reform that was happening in China for the pass 20+ years, with double digits GDP growth?? Thanks for the late President Nixon's visit to China, the Chinese economy has since opened up to the world. It's no longer a communism(central economic planning), they called themselves Capitalistic Socialism, meaning as long as you don't challenge the gov't's authority you are free to do anything! Posted by Ryan at July 29, 2005 4:51 PM..much like the USA. But now there are laws that allow the govt' to take your property if they think they can do something with it to make more tax money from just taking it from you. Posted by Merick Dronome at July 30, 2005 4:28 AMLike hey what is real anyway? Virtual and real. Is it not one in the same? Well anyway when you die you can't take or virtual or real items with you so whats the point! At least that is what I heard. Posted by Markie at July 30, 2005 11:57 PMPk: "Its stuff like this that makes me _want_ to stop playing world of warcraft" Ah, but yet, you just can't let go.... ;-) Posted by Ruli at July 31, 2005 8:03 AMThis is the kindof thing that makes me hang my head in shame when my /played on DAoC reads 84 days. Posted by Grummur at August 8, 2005 3:42 AMthere is only one thing to say to this..... HAHA! Erm, why the hell does lom have wow item icons? im quiting wow and restarting legend of mir, i keep swapping aww =C Posted by Wtf at June 25, 2006 10:52 PMBen & Jadeline -- 2 of the most richest chars in MIR2..
