Revolution Revealed!

Nintendo RevolutionSo walking down the street I saw at the newsstand a copy of US Today and low-and-behold there on the front page was a picture of the brand new Nintendo Revolution! I have to say, it looks nice, a very clean design and not a curved surface in sight. Actually, the design is almost boring when you compare it next to the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Strange how Nintendo over the years usually has the more "original" design while the other console makers put out square boxes, and this time Nintendo went the other way. I do like the little blue light inside the disc slot.

Nintendo is having the "official" unveiling in a few hours so I'm sure a lot more details will be emerging shortly, but it is interesting to see how Nintendo really does things their own way including the announcement of the system.

Here it is a little bit larger.

I think the design will be similar to the GameCube...in theory it doesn't sound like it would look to good, but in actuality it looks pretty nice.

That is a sexy console, looks to be 1/10th the size of say the xbox 360.

Wish they'd show what the controllers will look like, if they are touch screen controllers as rumored, I'll be steering clear. No tactile feedback = no sale. I don't look at my controllers to find the buttons while playing games. Nor do I play console games with a stylus.

While reading that line, I invisioned myself a Dreamcast-style controller with a touchscreen in it. I think it'd be great to play some touchscreen-games with some friends on the TV.

It looks great...PLUS the fact that it can play GCN games, as well as having the ability to download all the old NES SNES and N64 games onto it!

Damn its sexxy. You know you want it.

Damn! That thing looks sexy! Maybe if they would tweak the design a bit, it could look even better.

Did you notice how Iwata wanted suggestions from the crowd. I think they are going to try and be more friendly with 3rd party developers this timne around.

Mmmm... Slanty. I think small is better and Nintendo seems to get that. It is definitely my favorite looking system, horizontal is horrible. BLACK IS COOL! What is with this freaking 'iPod White' crap?! Idiots!

It's too bad they still rely heavily on the Mario/Zelda franchise. Link is the only reason I bought a Gamecube, and I sold it as soon as I beat it.

^Simman there gave me an idea^ Wouldn't it be cool if Nintendo promoted amatuer game design? Making it easier for people to make their own games? Since no one else is making good games for Nintendo, just get the players to make their own games.

Sorta like spore, have a massive collective among players that creates the content for a new game, something like that? I've just been thinking about how pretty soon it will be more and more common to be playing games made by our peers instead of corporations. I find the concept very exciting, because games have become much too 'hollywood', ya know? very stale indeed.

Anyway, Nintendo better do something really innovative like that, being small and sexy isn't enough. Thoughts?

Hmm.... Spore could be on all the consoles. They could even use the same database.

White is the new black, black is the not white. Just because your aesthetics are outdated doesn't make industrial designers idiots.
