May 5, 2005Nintendo ... All Portable All The Time? These images have been floating around the Internet today and if they are even remotely true it would be very cool indeed. Nintendo did state that they were going to release yet another portable gaming device this year ... could it possibly be the Nintendo GameCube Advance? Comments
That would be very cool, but it doesn't look realistic to me, at all...looks like a pretty badly Photoshopped image. The way the buttons and everything fit together doesn't look...natural. But here's something weird. The button set-up on-screen is weird. Not anything like it is in The Wind Waker. Look, the buttons don't even look like they're supossed to. And why is the telescope equipped to A? Weird stuff... Posted by Sensei Jinx at May 5, 2005 6:37 PMlook at the disk, the reflection seems diffrent or is that just me? Posted by jujubee at May 5, 2005 7:03 PMWell, props to whoever made that image. I'm impressed with their attention to detail. The screen reflects light onto the disc and the unit itself. Also you can see the grooves on the black plastic around the buttons, & the screen looks deep enough to allow space for the buttons when it folds shut. I was sceptical about how practical it would be for comfort, so I grabbed a VHS tape and I estimate it would feel about like that, which feels ok to me. Reminds me of an NES controller. Except there is that volume control on the side, which would definitely get in the way. Good idea though, I do believe Nintendo should do something to maintain it's portable gaming dominance. Game on. Posted by Deep Lee at May 5, 2005 7:19 PMNintendo never stated they were going to release another portable this year. Posted by heyo at May 5, 2005 7:41 PMTrue, Nintendo never stated that they were going to release another portable system this year, but it is very widely rumored in gaming circles. I guess we'll find out more at E3. Posted by Gaming Steve at May 5, 2005 7:55 PMThe A B X and Y buttons look very Photoshopped. Very nicely done, the amount of detail makes me believe that it was more than just Photoshop's bevel tool, but there's too much shine. They almost look like they are out of a cartoon. I'm very impressed by the reflection though. A lot of fake reflections look too shiney, but that looks like it's being reflected in smooth plastic. Also, the reflection is distorted where the ridge goes up, and the distortion it has around the buttons is very convincing. Still, I'm not convinced. For one, the name on the front, GameCube Advance, doesn't sound like a name the Nintendo company would come up with. It's not a very creative name. Personally, I would name that thing "Gameboy Cubed" ;) Posted by Crowster at May 5, 2005 9:17 PMwell, I thought the XBox360 image was photoshopped so who knows. Posted by kevin at May 5, 2005 9:39 PMAlso, from the reflection on the unit itself, it seems to extend to about the level of the D-Pad. I'm not a physics major, but why would there then be a reflection on the disc (especially that much of one/that clear of one/what not), if the disc is parallel to the rest of the thing. Furthermore, the slope of the reflection on the disc is different than the slope of the reflection of the reflection on the unit. And the disc reflects RIGHT up to the unit - where is that light coming from, if the disc is slighlty below the level of the screen? I.e. there would at least be a little bit of a shadow by the edge of the unit. Lastly, what is with the DVD-like button on the top? Isn't that rather impractical (have the screen hit something, and suddenly the thing ejects? Is the person who made this trying to make us think that Nintendo will try to make movies on gamecube discs (which seems silly to me)? Also monotone speakers seems a step back from the stereo provided on DS (If I recall correctly); if they the unit that shiny I think it would help promote glare on the screen. Seems pretty bogus to me, but that's just my opinion. Posted by Pepboy at May 5, 2005 9:45 PMAre you guys kidding? Do you know the amount of effort it would take to mock up something like this in Photoshop, even with the bevel tools available? And the result still wouldn't look right, no matter how hard you try. It's *so* obvious that it's a mock up done in a 3D application. :/ Posted by someone at May 6, 2005 12:37 AMI thought those VCR-style buttons were alittle strange but now that I think about it, it looks like the whole top maybe a touch-screen. That would make sense for Nintendo, considering the DS (which I think is stupid). Although one large touch screen might have some pretty cool implications. Oh and you're right about the reflection on the disc, it doesn't make any sense considering the reflection on the unit is parallel and that one isn't. Totally Fake looking. Is it just me, or do those corners remind you of the corners on the N64? Posted by Deep Lee at May 6, 2005 1:17 AMTHIS is the new system by Nintendo FOR SURE http://image.lik-sang.com/content/nintendo-ds/large/nintendo-bs.jpg Posted by Deep Lee at May 6, 2005 1:20 AM^^ lol Posted by jujubee at May 6, 2005 6:29 AMDoubt that's the real thing, but I sure hope so. The date of E3 is shown on the console in the second picture at the top right. Hmm... Posted by Zidanex at May 6, 2005 3:40 PMDoes anybody else think it would be a real pain to actually play that thing? I mean, it would be all uncomfortable and tough to reach the buttons. Posted by syphonbyte at May 8, 2005 1:01 AMdid anyone think that the buttons on the top could be used when teh screen is shut to play music? Burn a mini CD with MP3s and play? Anyways, looks very sweet. Posted by Viper_Viper at May 8, 2005 11:26 PMnintendo is comming up with their cheeziest gimmick yet .... the gamegirl advance....trust me u heard it from a source...and it will be complete with games "only a girl" could/should play (hint to all 20 yr. pokemon fans) and the "girly games" will not read on gamboy advance hince the electronic diary . blah yuck ack!!!!! Posted by ur omincienty at May 9, 2005 3:37 AMNintendo will reveal their GameBoy successor..... You'd know that if you read the bigger gaming websites like IGN. Posted by Buddy at May 9, 2005 9:18 PMWell, this image is doubtfuly real. But it is possible. And even if it is really fake, damn good job on that image to whoever made it :). Posted by Scott M. at May 10, 2005 4:31 PMIs it supposed to continue to play with the cd ejected? And isnt the shiny side supposed to be down? for those who say that this was badly done, should try and do better. Lets see some more designs. Posted by brnr at May 11, 2005 1:03 AMthe shadowing is so off. it's sloppy to a professional eye, and the light glare doesn't add up with the the screen. it's good but a waste of someone's day trust me life is more boring then that... Posted by ur omincienty at May 11, 2005 5:56 AMSomethings that people should remember: Lots of details don't equal real. You can have an assload of details, ranging from glare, to shiny, to reflections, but if they don't all come together, and make it a whole, then you just made a "whole" POS. Lots of details, yes, it's also shiny, but as a whole? Nope, totally a fake, in my opinion. Posted by Mac at March 15, 2006 6:12 AMIn my opnion it was probably made as a Prototype Design at Nintendo Test Labs and was not meeting teh chosen standards it needed to ebcome a real product so Nintendo Trashed it and kept it in the janitors closet along with all teh other junk they made and never got to a susessful quoteria oover the years. Posted by Void / Habbums at October 8, 2006 11:06 AMi wish this was real gosh this would rock the world Posted by brandon at November 16, 2006 10:51 PM |
