Pictures of Will Wright's Spore!

Well I'm not sure how long these will be able to last on here before EA legal comes to take them down. I got several new pictures since yesterday including city combat, making a Care Bear, the stellar nursery stage and a few others. Keep checking back for new pictures and information as I get it.

Oh yes, for those of you interested the demo was running on a PC computer. However I don't see why this game couldn't run on a console or portable gaming device (as long as it could connect to the Internet to download new items).

Remember if you want to hear my entire preview you can download my podcast here: Gaming Steve at the GDC Day 3.

You can also subscribe to the weekly podcast.

This is during the early stage of the game. Notice the light yellow object with blue fins on the left side of the screen, that is "you" in this stage. The green objects and the brown objects will attack you if you're not careful.

This is your creature during the water stage. At this stage he has two fins and a tailfin. In time he will evolve and have three legs and a "tailhand".

This is the heart and meat of the game, the character editor. Notice the menus on the left side of the screen, this is where you can add and remove new items to your creature. The menus look and work very similar to those found in The Sims 2. Your creature itself is fully adjustable; notice the bones in the chest. Those can be changed and the creature dynamics (walking speed, animation, texturing, etc.) will automatically change to adapt to your new creature design.

These are all creatures which were creating within the game. Notice the huge variety ... amazing.

Oh yeah, and here is a carnivorous Care Bear created by Will. The creatures during the design stage were fully interactive and could be made to walk around the screen in order to "test them out".

Once you get some legs you can go onto land the game changes locations. The green creature is "you" and the little brownish creature is lunch!

Two of Will's creatures mating (with Barry White-type music playing in the background).

This is during the "tools" part of the game, where you have to learn how to create a society. Notice the little spears in their tail/hand and the two creatures playing the drum.

After you get tools and advance enough you can build large cities. All the items in the city are player created using the same dynamic interface as the creature creation. At this stage of the game it becomes sort of a hybrid RTS/SimCity.

Right next door to Will's fun city was this computer controlled city. Will pointed out that this city not only had completely different architecture but their culture and society were different as well.

And here is that industrial city attacking Will's city. All the combat vehicles are customizable as well and utilize the same interface as the creature creator.

Will shows off various vehicles created by players within the game. The vehicles on the top of the screen are from Will's city and the two on the bottom are from the industrial city.

Once you get the UFO technology you can start to explore the solar system. This is what your planet looks like from high orbit. Your city is in the lower left corner and the industrial city is in the center.

Zoom up a bit farther and you can explore the entire solar system. The second planet is the home planet while the others were all created by other players or the computer. Notice the cool asteroid belt as well.

This is an barren world in your solar system. If you notice on the world there is a tiny little red dot ... this is where the creature dropped onto this planet (with no atmosphere) exploded.

Eventually you get an interstellar drive for your UFO and you can explore your corner of the galaxy. The yellow sun with the box around it is where we just came from. By moving your mouse over the other stars you can listen to radio static and try to make contact with another civilization. You also have to watch out black holes, white dwarfs and other potential deadly space phenomena.

And this is as far as we got in the demo. The small yellow box in the lower part of the solar system is your home planet. Notice the various galaxies in the background? I'm not sure if you can explore those as well, but I wouldn't be surprised!

This is awesome, Steve, saw the link to this from Joystiq. Great work getting these up! Listened to the podcast, and I too also wonder why there isn't more buzz on this yet. Hopefully there'll be more when this hits E3. Also I hope this comes out on Mac, which it probably will like a year after this drops on the PC, if previous Will Wright titles are any indication.

Hi Gaming Steve,

I've just found your site through Kotaku, and in the process of downloading your podcasts right now. I had some trouble in the beginning. My RSS reader, BlogLines, removes all spaces from the enclosure URL, you your MP3 becomes GamingSteve2005-03-11.mp3, which doesn't exist. This is BlogLines problem, but if you can quickly change your naming scheme, it would fix the problem. I'd hate for information to be lost like that.

Thanks. And keep up the good work.

Posted by Minh at March 15, 2005 1:15 PM

Thanks for the heads up. Fixed it all up, should be working fine now. Let me know if you have any other problems.

Posted by Gaming Steve at March 15, 2005 1:50 PM

I reckon the reason there is so little buzz is that people seem to think that such a game couldn't exist, and wont work if it proves to be real.

Seaching the 'net for forums, it seems that many people think it too good to be true. I guess we wait for E3 eh?

Posted by praxis22 at March 15, 2005 3:10 PM

nice job on the pictures and especialy the podcast

Thanks from :)

Posted by Guus van Raaphorst at March 15, 2005 3:59 PM

Great amount of detail and info. I found your podcast more informal and much more detailed than the gamespy article, which was quite informative itself.

Listening to the podcast was a great use of class time. Thanks a lot!

I can't wait for more info after E3.

Posted by Jim at March 15, 2005 5:02 PM

This is the game I've always wanted to play. I even looked at forking the the freeciv codebase to do something like this. But no need, this game sounds even better than what I've been thinking of all these years.

Your podcast makes it sound like this game will not be a person vs. person game. Sure other user's content can be downloaded on your machine. But if it attacks you it sounds like it will be computer controled.

Do you know if there will be any multiplayer aspects of this game?

The podcast is very good, it makes me feel as if I was there.

Posted by Chris Weber at March 15, 2005 5:31 PM

Holy hell! How does this guy think this stuff up? sounds like an awesome title, can't wait.

Posted by SeXbox at March 15, 2005 6:50 PM

Wow, excellent podcast steve, much obliged! can't wait for more info on this game. I have to admit i feel slightly skeptical about it fulfilling it's concept. Especially since i followed black and white's development so closely, when personally i felt that game didn't really meet my expectations.

One aspect of Spore i'm confused about is the player built content, will the entire game be set in a persistent online universe? much like an MMO?
If not where will other civilisations and creatures come from?

Posted by Glen Pearce at March 15, 2005 8:17 PM

Wow, very nice screenshots :). I'm pretty excited about this game. This will probably be my new favorite game when it finally comes out.

Posted by GameFreakia at March 15, 2005 9:11 PM

This game has got all 6 of my nipples tingling, this is hopefully going to be the best game ever. Until a persistant online version where everything is not only player created, but player controlled. Then that will be the best.
How certain are you that it will be released this year? From your preview of the game is sounds as if it is 80-90% complete. If it's not out this year, I just hope and pray that a demo of some sort will be released this year at least. Just like many of you will be, I am now anxious and cannot wait for E3 to come along. Hopefully someone here know's an assasin of some sort who could get an early copy of the game. Even as I type this all my muscles are tense with excitment and if it wasn't for Gaming Steve's strong male american accent I would have most probably mastu....erm yes.
Anyway great review, I just hope you are at E3 providing this much information about this game again. This time be first in the que please.

Posted by Puzant at March 16, 2005 6:44 AM

Very nice =D Gj on the early information. I think this is the best website on the web for Spore Info right now.

Posted by Jack at March 16, 2005 8:16 AM

Wow, this game sounds and looks really cool. I just listened to your podcast and my eyes were about as big as the flying saucers. As soon as I heard the bit about blowing up the planet I knew that I had to have this game. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I found your site through, and I'll definately be coming back to look for updates and listen to the podcast again. It sounds at least ten times better than Sims 2, which is currently my favorite game. Now I'm wishing that my friends were really into computer games so I could share it with them. I'm off to see if I can find out some more info.

Posted by Melissa at March 16, 2005 2:05 PM

There's a good 5 page article on gamespy that goes over much of this in detail. Those of you that want more info should check it out.

May I just say: HOLY S**T

Posted by Varsity at March 16, 2005 2:59 PM

Glen Pearce: From the Steve's podcast it sounded like the size of the file needed to describe everything about your creature could fit in a 1 KB file. So it may be possible to get a snapshot of every other creature in the game. After which you live in your world, they live in theirs. No person-to-person interactions.

But today I'm getting conflicting reports on that. see here:

near the end they talk about how some players will have to play defensively against other players.

Steve did they talk about whether there will be PvP gameplay at the conference?

Posted by Chris Weber at March 16, 2005 6:31 PM

In my next podcast I will go over these items in new details (should be ready by Friday at the latest). But real quick, there is no true PvP in the game (as of now). You play by yourself and against the computer, all the content in the game, however, is created by other players and imported into your game via a central database (sort of like how The Sims 2 works with downloading objects).

Again, look for more details where I will answer ALL of these many many questions in my new podcast later this week.

Posted by Gaming Steve at March 16, 2005 7:50 PM

I was at the talk, and basically the way Will described it was like a MSOG (Massively Singleplayer Online Game). All content you create (creatures, buildings, vehicles, cities, planets, whatever) is uploaded to a server. These assets are categorized by the server by some method. While you are playing, if the game needs a new creature (for example, a suitable predator for your creature) that doesn't exist in your world, then it will download one from the server and populate your world with it. Killing these creatures will not kill off another player's work, as it is stored entirely on your machine once you download it. Likewise, if you download a player's planet and blow the planet up, you will not destroy another player's planet.

One reason for this is because time moves at different speeds depending on what scale of the game you're at, so it wouldn't be easy to line everything up between multiple players. Furthermore, it would be really hard for anybody to advance in the game if there was some kid that just went around blowing up everybody's planets before they could even build cities.

Hopefully there will be enough interesting content to populate everybody's worlds and galaxies.

Posted by Tim at March 17, 2005 9:53 AM

Hey steve, found your site while looking for images of spore. Your podcast was informative, but I'd just point out that Will Wright didn't get "scientists" from "helsinki". Over in Europe is a semi-large community that sprung up from the days of the c64. Basically these extremely talented artists/coders/musicians will make real-time music videos and stuff like that, they call themselves the "Demo scene" and one well known category (In the demo-scene anyway) is the 64kb category. Basically you see an animation rendered in real time and music synchronized to the events on screen and the file size is usually 64kb or less. It's something I stumbled across a few years ago but it still impresses the absolute crap out of me everytime I see something new from someone involved in it. The most notorious mob for doing crazy shit is a group called Farb-rausch. is their website (kinda basically a list of thigns they've done atm and they say they'll fix that this year, but they said that in 2003 too! :D) and the product that gave them the reputation for being so good is located at and the biggest project they've ever done is at (They did a game in 96kb and it rivalled Doom3 graphics wise) (Nutters, but uber talented :D) is another group that is capable of stretching 64kb to it's utmost limit.

My guess is Will Wright saw something of this scene a while back and was impressed by the idea. Most major hardware companies sponsor the larger events, as some of these little programs take a ton of horsepower. Kkreiger especially.

Posted by Baz at March 17, 2005 9:59 AM

How... I mean WOW. I am awe-inspired by the scope of this game and can't wait untill it comes out... It seems that most games the I look forward to and have great promise seem to fall short of themselves, so I am going to go away for a month or so and when I come back, I expect to see some great progress so I'll buy this so far awesome game! :D

Posted by Andrew Psilon at March 17, 2005 2:12 PM

Sweet mother of God, this could easily be teh greatest game ever conceived of, let alone actually made.

Posted by Gabriel Bowater at March 17, 2005 6:18 PM

Sounds / Looks like one of those "too-good-to-be-true", "You can do anything you want !!" kinda games.

Reminds me an awful lot of the first stories about "Black & White".

Posted by Led at March 18, 2005 7:01 AM

I could imagine many having at some point wondered whether there could be such a game where you start so small and go to the galaxy(+) scale. However I would also imagine everyone having done that expecting something different. I for one have dreamed of having such a) start on a planet b) gain a ship c) go where no man has gone before game for more than a decade, it takes some effort to remind myself that this can be done in so many different ways/styles and this looks like to build upon the content creation the most. But still that makes me want that every players planet would be in the same universe. If someone comes and nukes my planet or system then it would only be blown up on the game of whoever blew me up, but if my civilization was advanced, perhaps some could have flewn and the game would notify me of the 'enemy' by giving some clues which could help me find his planet and return the favor. Of course with the uber UFO ship the time is not of essence as time doesn't really pass when its moving ;-)

Souunds great, but I wonder if you can make more than one species- say, one to reach sentience and rule the planet, the other to become powerfull physically and act as pets/servants to the other race. If I get this game, I'm going to make a planet ruled by living coral that uses low-frequency sound waves to direct swarms of tiny lizard creatures that actualy buld their nests inside the coral.

Posted by MDude at March 20, 2005 3:50 PM

Boring - I can read and see these things everywhere. In many books, in a museum and so on.
Bad idea....

Posted by Max at March 21, 2005 2:18 PM

Truly amazing. The possibilities are nearly endless. I would be interested in learning if you can develop an intelligent, tool using species who can either fly or live in water? Or if the tool using part of the game takes place only on land. Flying or aquatic species would open up several other avenues for species/race creation.

First of all thanks Steve for keeping these pictures up and for the great PodCast.

I think this is the best stuff i've seen for quite a while, it's just fantastic.....
I don't think it is going to be another Black and White, i mean it's Will Wright, come on. If he can't do it, probably noone can...
And as the DemoScene is working on this too, i think anything is possible.... it might be shipped on a floppy :-D ;-)

Posted by Sturek at March 22, 2005 2:26 AM

Awesome. I've found these pics via the online magazine "Spiegel", which wrote a report on Wright's latest ideas. I'm looking forward to the E3 convention. Well done.

On a somewhat related note - there're other programs for exploring an entire galaxy, eg. NOCTIS ( ). I hope the designers of SPORE learn about its flaws though.

Cheers to Mr. Wright.

Good job, Steve. Keep it up.

Posted by Gauphastus at March 23, 2005 7:23 AM

This game looks incredibly sweet.

The concept is very out-of-the-box style. I would like to see more game devs utilize this type of creative thinking. Games these days just stick to the tried-and-true and don't usually add anything new in terms of creativity.

This game looks to be different. I can't wait to see the end result!

Thanks for the pics + podpost Steve you're the man :D

THIS GAMES LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! i cannot wait till it comes out so i can start building my lil dude thingy and then take over the universe mu ha haha......but in all seriousnes this games looks to be the most configurable game that will or has ever hit the market can't wait till it comes out^^

Posted by SiLeNt^GhOsT at March 23, 2005 8:53 PM

I wonder if we can control the size of the creatures... like to dinosaur proportions. If so my dream of dominating the galaxy with my army of Godzillas will soon come true!

On a more serious note, this game sounds wonderful, designing your own race from the ground up is sure gonna connect you to the game, and your creatures.. a sense of ownership like Will said.

I am already conjuring up some bizzare creature designs in anticipation of this game... :D

Posted by Bardiel at March 24, 2005 4:47 AM

THis game looks really great. However, iots going to take alot to live up to the expectations set for it. I can remember several games that I thought would be great, and then turned out to be duds, or had serious gameplay issues (Black and White would be a good example). I think the most disapointing thing is that there will be no PvP in the game. I understand the need to have the entire game on ones computer so that no stupids kids go and blow everyone's planets up, but it would be nice if there was a server you could log into (with your completed planet) and enter into a "Galaxy server", in which you could interact with real people. In the mean time, I'm keeping my eyes open for more updates. Overall, the game looks spectacular, if not hard to believe, since it is covering such an expansive scope. I have to say though, Will Wright is the man for the job.
This is a game to look out for (I sure am!)

Posted by Galen Kast, Wisconsin at March 24, 2005 10:12 PM

This is absolutely the vision I've had all of my gaming life!! I wonder if it's pure to the actual laws of nature and faithful to the original model? Please count me as one of the first dedicated, lifetime players! Can't wait to find out more!

Great coverage in your podcast. Doesn't you mouth ever get dry? I know I'd be drinking all the way through that 1+h of speech.

Posted by The_Reckoning at April 2, 2005 6:30 PM

1) While the ideas are not entirely new, Will is probably the first game designer to build a product around them.
2) This is obviously "the future of gaming", of course procedural creation of game assets and emergent gameplay will become more and more important as the complexity of game worlds increases.
3) While the ideas are revolutionary, the game may very well suck. Remember B&W and Will's own Sims Online. Still, it would be worth buying at least for the "wow factor".

Posted by Danila at April 5, 2005 7:11 AM

so foolish darwinist idiot game.i am not a religion believer nor an atheist believer.and graphics seems so primitive and old kinda.the maker of this game wanna create arguement about religion believers and atheists and gather money in this speculation.good try but oldie.i remember some 10 years old idiots were tryin to use this arguement to impress this game's maker 10-15 years old or in this IQ?
no graphics in it and i imagine so deadly bad worst sounds and very bad playable game it will be.

Posted by Fandango at April 6, 2005 11:08 PM

Game seems really nice, and with Will as main designer, it can't be that bad. Sure, some of his games flopped, but hey, whose won't? Even funnier I find when I read these comments the comment subcrocodile posted. Surely, with that spelling and using of capital letters, I may try to decipher your age which seems to be around 9-11, and you're speaking about things you maybe haven't even read of! Why would this game create argument between creationists and darwinists? Creationists would maybe scoff at the game, but that's about it, I'd guess. And what are you to say about graphics, when those pictures were taken in a sort of announcement. Those pictures aren't official. And, I'd make an educated guess that when you're referring to those 10 year old idiots, you're talking about yourself, correct?

Ok, that went towards subcrocodile bashing, but I had my reasons. I'm expecting great things from this game, because it sounds like my dream come true. Just await when my ergonians roll (literally!) to your planet, with sort of "peacekeeperishque" manner.

Holy crap subcrocodile. Its just a game. eveolution is a common idea and makes for great gaming. It's just like an RTS tech tree but cuter. Last time I check nobody really gets too hostile about evo or creationism, everyone just believes what they will and moves on.

I'm sure you're just being bitter, drunk and facetious but i feel everyone should breathe in your post.

I really and truly believe that this game will revolutionize the simulation genre. From the looks of it, this game appears to be in an advanced stage of development. If Wright can pull this off (Which I have complete confidence that he can), he might create a game that will truly be remembered as a turning point in user-created content gaming. I doubt that this game will cause any stir in the creationism vs. evolutionism arena, considering that the game can appeal to both sides of the field. I have always dreamed of a game like this, and I knew Wright had it in him to finally figure out just what we want in simulations. Now if you'll excuse me, I will proceed to spread the word about this site, and this amazing game.

Posted by Tal at May 1, 2005 7:32 PM

Wow! I saw that game in one game-article. I'd love to make a cute crocodile-lizard creature! <3

Posted by Umbbe at May 2, 2005 10:39 AM

Most everyone's comments on here are dead on. I agree this is gonna very much revolutionize the gaming industry, at least the simulation genre. Truthfully I had always dreamed and thought deeply in my mind about this kind of thing (as kind of a fantasy thing that could never happen), but I should have thought about exponentially-increasing technology in all aspects of the world (not just gaming), I mean London is talking about in 2006 having a flying taxi, i mean that is WILD. The movie The Matrix blew me away cuz I had been thinking of the same kind of thing in my mind for so long and it was like coming at me on the screen.

Also, it said Spore was just a Code-Name for the project, but i think its the perfect name for it, and its a cool name and simple to say. Will Wright you rock the damn planet I swear. For YEARS I didn't even know that Will Wright is who created and designed the original SimCity and SimEarth, SimAnt, SimFarm, SimTower, all the Sim- games, I had no idea until The Sims came along, cuz i was fascinated that they went down from SimCity to the family level which i had been thinking about for a long time while i was playing SimCity on SuperNintendo (wanted to use that magnifying glass to look into each house and control each house and the people in it)..

Anyway enough of my ramblings.. If anyone wants to team up with me to chat about Spores or life or anything, feel free to hit me up at Muzic_Soul_Worldly@Comcast.Net

Posted by Aaron Robinson at May 3, 2005 6:50 PM

The pictures look nice, But it looks too Fiction like, IT doesnt appeal to me much. It looks like Jurassic Park or something, I mean get real. Simcity should ought to be more of a project then anything. I suppose that is the number one Franchise of all time, not a carebear dinosaur type game.. Now Maybe if they made a game where it was from 1503 A.D. to Modern Days. Where you settle a village of realistic type land and water, not 2D, 3D. and go from a small Historical Village to a Thriving Metropolis, But once you go into modern age/Information Age. You will have a Tourst Attraction for your historical Part from the time of your citys Birth. like Jamestown in VA. When we settled here in 1607. , and create a city of yoru dreams with technology. and no, Not Rise of Nations. That game got boring quick.

I've been following this game for a while now, and I must say that it looks mighty impressive. My greatest fear though is that, by blending genres, the game will feel shallow or some of the aspects might not be fully developed. But, if the game is a success there are very good odds that I will be yelling (and by that I mean typing) at all who doubted the ingeneous mind of Will Wright, and if the game bombs I'll shut my mouth and go back to reading blogs and looking for naked pictures of Morgan Webb...

Posted by Lunch Box at May 30, 2005 4:53 PM

I've asked a lot of people about what they thought the game would be like, but most of them (in fact all of them) had no idea what I was talking about... I am trying to spread the word of this new game but I am met with closed minds and dogs with sharp, pointy teeth. But, I will perservere (I think I spelt that wrong).

PS. I'm still searching for good pics of Webb...

wow, this game looks awesome, and by the way, very nice screenshots! I've never even seen them before. Anyway, I went to a bunch of other gaming websites (gamespot, 1up, etc.) and they all posted that the game wouldn't be release until late '06! but the game looks like it's almost done from the way it looks Well thanx aginfor the lovely screenshots.

I can't wait to make an entire race of Dr Cox from 'Scrubs' all wondering around making sarcastic comments about everything and looking at themselves in the mirror whenever they get the chance. By the way Runescape is for people that either can't afford/be bothered to get a real mmorpg from the shops such as World of Warcraft, now get back on topic.

This is the game I like where you can finally make and own a creaure.

This game rocks and Rolls!

Posted by Junior the kid at October 11, 2005 10:06 PM

I am looking forward to this game. Currently I play Second Life. Got tired of WoW. Way past other MMRG's. I like how it is possible to create whatever you want in SL. But I hate that it really has nothing to do with anything. And does not progress unless you build the next progressive stage.

Spore sounds better in that time progresses and if you make a change you can see it develope or deteriorate. I guess comparitivly with the info I know now, SL is like building with lego's. Spore is like creating a whole interactive world.

Take care all. See you when this comes out. :)

judging by the screenie of all the creatures, you can add weapons, because of that guy w/ the club.

Posted by poopy at October 16, 2005 4:25 PM

No, a demo is not coming out any time soon. The game isn't stated to be released until "Fall 2006" and that is still a rough timeline. Until the game is "official" launched (probably sometime around March or May 2006) don't expect to see a lot of info on this game just yet.

Posted by Gaming Steve at October 16, 2005 6:13 PM

this game sounds amazing. my only concern is in the space era. can i make a Tripod exactly like in War of The Worlds with lasers and three tentical legs. can i have more than one space ship, does it have to be a saucer, and can i meet other programs in space and start a space battle

Posted by Doober at October 23, 2005 8:40 PM

I really wonder in what way you are limited in this game. I would really like to not just choose my civilisation to be economic or military focused. But also like offensive/defensive, stealth (uber big underwater colonies) or hit and run strategies. Also i would like not every race to end up fighting with the doomsday weapon and having lasers, but maybe some revolutionairy new technology that can fire arcs of lightning to scourge entire planets. But those are just some of my idea's. Furthermore, i would also like to build a very lazy slug-like creatures that just crawls around a bit and eats some plants. And i'd like to see some creatures that don't need oxygyn at all so they can actually live on a planet that has no atmosphere. But then again... Won't the game get really out of balance? Anyway, i'd like to keep my options open so i can let the creativity come out!

Posted by Jos van Egmond at October 27, 2005 11:33 AM

You can see a video of Will's talk somewhere on this page:

It's 1 hour 2minutes and 2 seconds long.

Posted by Christian at October 30, 2005 8:49 AM

after some new digging i have found that this game includes clothes for the creatures. the creatures can even fly, but unfortunately the cities can't fly. i've got some new questions too. can we make a race of cybernetic monster with laser guns for arms? also after you get some tools, is it a race to stay advanced, like can computer programs get to space age while you are still living in huts and throwing spears? cause i don't want to have to stress too much over a game. even if it is the coolest game i have ever seen.

Posted by Oviraptor at November 25, 2005 9:51 AM

high its me again. i just finished watching the demo and i saw how you made the atmosphere and blew up the planet. someone asked about a planet editor and i can see how there kind of is one. but what if we run out of planets like if we go crazy with the planet buster thingy? can there be a system where you can take space rock and mold them together into a dead moon and let us take it from there? after we use the genisus can these worlds become populated with player created content by themselves?
P.S. if you are thinking about topping this, Please for the love of all that is pure, please do do do do do do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by BlitheEmperor at January 6, 2006 12:52 PM

The last picture doesn't represent the solar system, it represents the galaxy (the yellow box indicates the solar system). Do you remember the order? Universe - Galaxy - Solar System - Planet. In our case: Universe - Milky way Galaxy - Solar System - Earth. The Earth is contained in the Solar System that is contained in the Milky way Galaxy that is contained in the Universe (at least up to where we know). Spore follows the same logic. That's it. Thanks.

".....Cant wait for it to come out One question though- how much hard disk space will it take to install??? (may need to splash out on a new computer) Only seven or eight months 'till it's released... Awesome!......"

I read a review somewhere that said it was based on totally revolutionary methods of programming, from a team of programmers that put a small 3d game into 64k using this method. So I am assuming it can't be as big as we'll expect.

Posted by Specusci at January 31, 2006 1:05 AM

".....but what if we run out of planets like if we go crazy with the planet buster thingy?......"

If its ANYTHING like a real galaxy, it would be nearly impossible to run out of planets ;D

At least, not within a reasonable timeframe :P

".....And i'd like to see some creatures that don't need oxygyn at all so they can actually live on a planet that has no atmosphere......."

I know this was posted a long time ago, and this will be my third post in a row, but c'mon...are that dumb that you cannot see that a planet with NO atmosphere has no nothing to actually breath? If it doesn't breath oxygen, it has to breath some other form of gas, not just nothingness :-\

I'm itching in my skin just waiting for SOME form of beta release of this game! I want to test it so much!

Hell, id pay 50$ just for the character editor.

Anyway, the game looks "delicious" from what I've seen from the Maxis presentation at GDC05.

Btw: Someone mentioned runescape, I remember playing that game back when it had 2 servers and only 100 people tops on each. Last time I logged in, it was about 3 years ago. Is bluerose13x still kickin' around the top 10?

Posted by MatchNL at January 31, 2006 1:09 PM

Hey, I just wanted to say this game rocks!! I hope a AMD Atlon 64 3200+ will be good enough for this game. I do want to give you all some advice. Don't want the game right away until it's really done and patched. It does take time to make an awesome game just be relaxed and it will come out some day, when Will Wright is ready. I have always liked Will Wrights work from Sim City 1 to SC4 Deluxe. I hope it is just like the sims 2 as far as engine graphics go. One thing I don't want to see is a game that is soo large it would take a decade to finish but not too short either. Will should keep to his core ethics, and values. Keep the game like-able. I want to be entertained for months not hours. The meer fact that you can evolve is like Sim Earth way back in 1990 where you can make any creature dominate by using a monolith. I still play that game using robybox msdos prog. for Win XP. I hope it is just like populous 2 that game rocked. I want to do war of the worlds action just wipe out entire solar systems. I think the sys req. should be 2.19 ghz pross. 1 gig ram 5 gig hard disk and 256 mb pci exress ati 700 pro series.
I just want to say one last thing before I go, just make the game some time this century! Unlike Duke Nukem!!

im thinking of using tool in really creative ways. can we have ground troops besides vehicals? cause im thinking what if im still on my homeworld, my enemy sends an army of elephant monsters and i send an army of mostly vehicals. what if i change my creatures into chicken sized animals allowing my vehicals to literally run right over them. and can the volcanoes we make actually erupt, like say all over an enemy city. or can i put a volcano under a city causing it to callapse in a firey inferno.
P.S. if your not gonna give me a demo, then shave a few weeks off your current release plan.

Posted by Pretender at March 3, 2006 6:57 AM

I just wanna know is it a multiplayer or a singleplayer game? or both??

Posted by Jacob at March 4, 2006 11:45 AM

This game will probably be a semi multiplayer offline kinda thing. You could probably have a p2p program that downloads other peoples worlds and civilizations as well as their creatures. But other than that, I think this game would be a single player since you can't interact with other alien races such as talking to them, using voice comm, and in my opinion, that sucks. So this means, singleplayer! BOOO. But then again, the p2p connection gives us the advantage to see other peoples work. But if you're offline, the game balances the ecosystem for your home planet I guess. Will is a very intelligen man, coming up with an idea like this is VERY unlikely, but WOW!!! This game is better then Half Life 2! How often do WE get to make our own animals and destroy others? Not very often mweheh. I think this game speaks for it self when it says, "Good Game."

Posted by Daniel Longmore at March 5, 2006 10:37 PM

For everybody that already decided they don't like this game-
Think of it this way. If this game is succesful then armys of design artists will be a thing of the past. Animators will no longer be needed. Games have recently gone up 10 dollers in order to pay all the men enough money for games like UT2007. Spore was made by a team of only 30 people keeping the price the same its always been. You don't have to like it, but you better hope everybody else does. The games graphics arn't going to be it's top selling point, its top selling point will be the fact you can have an INFINITE amount of motion depending on the design of the skeleton without more people then you need.

and besides it's Will Wright It's not like he hasn't made a good game already

Posted by Polymer at March 7, 2006 12:46 AM

Anyone who wants to see a video of the presentation can find it here:

Posted by DT at March 7, 2006 9:56 AM

I CAN'T WAIT FOR SPORE! I want to make a human looking creature and put it to the test against all the other body designs that are flying around my head right now! With this type of game I'm sure it will inspire scientists to think in the same way as the body editor for Spore and they can genetically modify animals into better creatures and if Aliens DO land on our planets we could have the ultimate slave monsters to fight them away!

Posted by Thomas at March 7, 2006 1:38 PM

Seriously guys, you believe everything you see and see only what you want to believe..... you fail to see the obvious and potentially fatal flaw in this game... same as sim city.. there's no aim or anything, games like that rarely get anywhere, the only option for this game is to become an mmo-like game or it'll just be some minor blip on the radar. Being able to download stuff other people make is a poor way to make up for that. It's no fun playing against the computer and basically do very little.... You create your race and travel & interact with different species. Of course it's not all bad, this will surely be the best sandbox game out there, but from what I've seen in the 35 minute video it'll be nothing more.

So stop being 14yo fan boys please and take a cold shower. And guess what... some of these comments are purely promotional.

Posted by Shadow at March 7, 2006 7:40 PM

Okay here is a comment based off of what alex said. You are right this game is going to have no true point...but think of it this way is there any true point in life...does life end? That's what this game is based off of...It is an immitation of life. You can hate it all you want because you are the kind of person that likes to play games like Half-life 2 and go around shooting people until the games over...This game doesn't end it isn't an fps its a sandbox from which you can create whatever you want!!! Your right I am portraying this game as what I want to see it as, but that doesn't mean this isn't going to automatically be a bad game like you just said it is.

Posted by Polymer at March 7, 2006 8:37 PM

Alex, what is your problem. You admit that sims has no point and that spore doesnt, right? And that spore will be the biggest pointless game out there, yet u claim it will only be a blip on the radar. It will be so much better than sims but no one will notice? Futhermore you think that alot of this talk is propaganda, but you havent played the game either, how do we know u arent working for a competeing game company. You can make up all the lame hypotheticals u want but that doesnt change the fact that everything your saying is completely empty and serves no purpose. Thats funny I think i just had an epirhany! Your pointless, just like the game. Apparently this game is all talk and sucks, but i guess it takes one to know one. I think that this game is revolutionary to the point that is above your feable mind and you wont ever contemplate its greatness. i portray it my way and you portray it yours, but your just an antagonist and feel it is your civic duty to piss off as many happy fans as possible. Oh and by the way i like sandboxes, what the heck is wrong with sandboxes, are u alergic to sandboxes of just afraid of them? And there is an aim to life unless you have forgotten its to survive. I dont know about you but i certinly dont try to die. And u think downloading others creations is a poor idea... u must be a great artist. Cause i dont know any one person who doesnt gain creative potential from others' inspiration. Personaly I hate the flow of information, It ruins life for me. DEVISTATING! You want to know another stupid hypothetical... I think Your Jealous u didnt come u with the idea for this game yourself. Oh and your right colanizing a planet is nothing... sounds way to simply for my standers... i'd rather play a first person shooter, thats much more sufisticated. I think this game will blow everything u think out of the water, so there.

Oh and by the way im 15 and i just whupped all over your behind!

Posted by Mark at March 7, 2006 11:02 PM

Using words you barely understand while not being able to spell "I" doesn't make you sound smart.

Speaking about random stuff like fps games doesn't prove anything,
piling up incoherent sentences to prove someone else doesn't know what he's talking about just makes people stop reading what you wrote.

And last but not least.. putting words in my mouth to change the point so that it seems you understand it is childish.

To clear things up for you: I don't think it'll be a horrible game, I'm saying it'll be a good sandbox game and sandbox games never get as far as say MMORPGs.
And another point I made is that hyping a game like some people do in this thread is just a waiste of space.

Posted by alex at March 9, 2006 12:21 PM

1. For those continuously asking when is it released, I read through alot of the repetative questions and talk, and read that it will be released in Fall 2006, personally doubt it.

2. If those seeking a video want to know links and such just go to google and search "spore video". I saw the video and I'm amazed by the game.

For every person on this commenting board, if the designer was to put every little tiny detail into the game a release date would pop up in 2009. But then again i guess that's what commenting boards are for. Just keep the babbling to a low.

Oh I forgot to post these things before. A demo will most likely not be released, at least not until the game is in stores. I would think that your creations can develope natural weapons e.g claws, tails etc. but as wondering if you can give your creatures weapons like axes, spears, clubs etc. at any given time will probably not be, until you could put down the weapon rack as shown in the video. I hope that this game wouldn't be online to the point that you could just start advancing into your civilization and then have your planet blown to bits by some bored U.F.O. pilot, another thought, can all your creations move with very unproportional body parts? Now as a last thought, will there be a never ending planet like spawn for say every planet blown up a new one forms? Or will the virtual space be too endless to even think of the possibilty of running out of planets?

Posted by jimbo at March 10, 2006 9:51 AM

In your pocast (2005-03-11) multiple times you are confused with whether or not he ate the 'glowing piece' (the creature layed an egg which Will Wright explains how to in the video, but that's what the glowing piece is.) He doesn't actually ever say or hint that he eats the egg. I was under the impression you just clicked it to 'hatch' it. Now that I was listening to your podcast though, I'm not so sure. Do you know for sure? I can't imagine you would have to eat the egg you just layed.

I pretty sure that you wont have a montly fee our anything like that since when I saw the video he said something about not to worry if you dont have net access. Which leads me to believe that it would be to hard to get ppl to pay if they dont have internet.

its coming out in the fall of far away.and there is one small demo but it didnt work on my computer and it said that the guy that created it had issues with his life or sometihng so he closed it.

Something i wanted to know for alot of time:

When i for example thinks that my creature is ready to go on another planet, then i zoom out to find a good planet. Then im like "Swosh!" when i find a good one, but then i'll be like "D'oh!" When i get lost in the universe :S

Short: How can i find my homeplanet when i get lost ?

Thanks :D

I'm not a huge gamer, with full-time work, college and mountain climbing on the side... but I've watched the demo 4 times, all the way through, and I'm thoroughly impressed, to say the least. I'm sure this game will have its limits, but by our current standards it's a breakthrough. If it went on sale tomorrow I'd be first in line... with a few casaulties following.

wow! this game sounds mega cool, I found out about it last night, i really can't wait till it comes out. does any one know where to get the demo?

Posted by Sophy at April 1, 2006 2:08 AM

The game looks brilliant - I'm totally looking forward to playing it.

The only thing that worries me a little is whether or not we're forced into designing creatures that are symmetrical in nature. I know most things in nature are symmetrical but I just hope we aren't limited by what we see in our own surroundings.

If I want to build some lopsided monstrosity just to see how it would survive in the world, I should be able to, right?

Posted by Erik at April 1, 2006 4:29 AM

I would have thought you could have non symmetrical creatures, but i don't think i would ill the same. ps : does anyone know where to get the demo, captin underpants was talking about?

THis game is goin to ROCK, I've always said that if I'd ever get the chance to make my onw game it would be one where you'd be able to create your own life...and Will Wright has done it...he really created my dream..or rather he's building it for non symetrical creatures...obviously they are possible judging from the clip where we can see a huge headed bird with a tiny body that nearly falls over when it takes a corner.
Personally I'm looking forward to seeing how my 13 legged squid/whale is going to move..Will are GOD ! ! !

suppose It's clear I'm rather looking forward to the release of spoer...god I hope it will be available to us this year !

Posted by The Flying Geiko at April 7, 2006 8:15 AM

Are there planets of different sizes? And are the creatures more heavy structured in bigger planets?

About game play: The planets look small. If there is only like 2 or 3 cities per planet, it will be childs play for 16 to 20-year old gamers. Is this game for 10-year kids only?

And in the starting pool of life: Enhanced pac-man -style gaming might not be really good after all, unless you are 10-year old. So I think it should be a lot more enhanced than plain edit the slug, eat and avoid danger. I mean that today, when games are really big, just enhanced pac-man will be too little a game. Same goes with the planet, if it has only like 2 to 3 cities. It sounds that the game surely has all the great stuff, but wrapped as 5 couples of small 10-year old kid games.

Well, I have not seen the game yet. And if the space conquering phase is just surfing around with just one (1) ufo, it is like a Alise in the Wonderland -game, not like space conquering with fleets of different kinds of space ships and vehicles.

And is it possible to build up space stations, where is rooms filled up with lots of different kinds of intelligent creatures of various species? And how about resources? Is there any resource management in the game? Is there any global management of planets which have cities of billions of creatures?

And then comes the PvP-thing. If the game is not interesting intelligently other than just creating a few slugs and a couple of fighting cities, and if there is no PvP-either, then what is there? Endless 10-year old kid gaming in a huge galaxy of about 5 game types? Am I just pessimistic or what?

Posted by Flow at April 8, 2006 9:34 AM

can you please stop asking about a demo? people have said MILLIONS OF TIMES if you bother reading that there isn't one, and the game is set to be released FALL 2006.

Posted by tekky at April 8, 2006 10:19 PM

Will you just be able to create land animals?
I saw in the video you could make cities with bubbles for underwater living.

Posted by Evan at April 11, 2006 8:50 PM

Um...Flow, I think you're missing the point.

Just because there are two or three cities on a planet, it doesn't mean it will be easy. Even if it was, this is a sandbox game at its heart, and difficulty isn't the point.
Also, at the spacefaring stage, the focus isn't on making the game a giant sci-fi strategy game. This isn't the next Master of Orion or Homeworld.
Just because the game encompasses a large number of different genres, it doesn't mean we need to see every single feature that we've ever seen in those genres.

Anyway, this game looks to me like it'll be amazing. I'd be entertained for hours just messing around with the creature editor.
Hopefully we'll get more info soon.

Evolution is the devil's concept -- for it to be a reality it must be an ongoing process (and it's not).

I'm sorry some feel little better than pond scum.

Posted by Pastor Visser at April 19, 2006 9:37 PM

Evolution is an ongoing process. Every living organism adapts to fit its physical environment over tens of thousands of years. What happens when the creature fits the environment perfectly? No need to evolve. We as humans have reached the stage where we modify our environment to our needs, so we really have no need to evolve.

Anyways, this is not a discussion about evolution. This is about what a fantastic game this will be. Hoping it is released this year...but I will gladly wait for whenever it gets released.

ok little quicky to clear things up! first the games set for next year 2007 sorry all =( second, you can create ocean dwelling creatures!

after going over several of will wright's presentation shot's, you can clearly get a idea of how or where about will wright plans to go as far as the game, new info that none yet know is surely behind will. an example of this is shown in one slide which show's the chaos theory! can you say ulternite universe? to me it seems that will wright has much more planed in this game then just some bits and strings, after all, if hes willing to go as far as a whole galaxy, theres realy no telling how far he could go!... my biggest thought is not what solid matter you can be but rather what other states of being you could play, an example of this would be a type of elemental for gasious planets or a liquid such as plasma, with is own special evolutionary gemics...ofcorse .

with all that sead, im sure there are going to be people who will make such statements as,"that would take up WAY too much computer info"etc. but please understand, this game is nither a sandbox nor your every day RPS, this game is totaly built around random percentages, mixed outcomes and an, almost roll of the dye to make an output the pleases the eye and matches the environment around it, in a simple way, amagine a cupple slider bars that ranges 1-100 and each slider bar will determine 1 fact within its group, for this example i will call this group planet -1, all that is done to create planet-1 is a ton of sliders in an almost randomly distributed pattern to create it, taking some very simple basic sets of questions such as,"is the planet close to a sun and, if so, how close to the sun is it?". for planet-1 we'll not look at, nessacerly how far, but instead make it into a prcent. so now planet-1 is about 80% away from our closest sun, and orbiting about ... ect, within its own location for where it is and type of galaxy it is in, will all have an alternate effect on the sliders.... simpley put, this game may be massive, but it is only due to some very well calculated, yet randomly generated processes through programs that makes it all possable in the first place.

ight i got to goz now later

Posted by fandore at May 4, 2006 4:02 AM

I know this has been mentioned many times, i also know it i getting irritating, but does any single person have the most accurate date for release. It would be realy good to know so i can stop worrying about when it will come out. so far the most promising sounding date is the Christmas the end of this year. And could anyone prove that the date they know is the correct one? A site would be handy but whatever

Posted by Julian at May 4, 2006 7:18 AM

I heard read on the gamespy article that the game was coming out in the 3rd Quarter (Fall). Not sure about that date, but there should be some info on it at this years E3.

Your GOD and Savior Lord Jesus Christ - Must save you! This game is evil, evolution is the work of the Devil. Save your souls, and praise the lord and don't buy this evil sinner game! Go repent! Repent!
- - -

LOL I'm playing around... I hate people that say the above or things like it. Too me its funny to post it; this game is a great thing to happen to Games, Developers and above all comming from a higher level of human understanding.
Despite the flaws we humans have, we still manage to find a way to create wounderful things. The Arts, Music, Movies, Games; Space exploration, Medical you name it... This is just another thing that defines how far we have come from the 1900's 1980's to today and beyond.
I am certainly looking forward to getting this. I hope it really does come out later in 2007 as has it listed, and I read somewhere from a wiki Spore (game) link near the bottom. About EA pushed most its games including Spore back till April 07' and/or later. This isn't bad news, it just means more work and efforts (hopefully) will be put in to make sure its as ready as it ever will be.
Or as someone stated above. "2009" would be more realistic. But, they can just do patches, and players "us" can also make it the way we want it to be. I had dreams of playing a game where you could develope your own race with any rules you like. And becomming a galactic space prone race. Wright just had one up on me. From "cell level" and beyond. That is something I never considered. lol

Prove that EA can make good games, let the milking of copying crappy games end and let EA become the inspiration for once. With Spore as the flagship, When "we" create we all win!

Posted by Bob the ARGLABLARG! at May 4, 2006 11:04 PM

I'm a little old school but this game definitely makes the grade for ingenuity, wittiness, and overall instinctive qualities that make the future of gaming. We've come a long way from Pac-Man!

Posted by Colin at May 12, 2006 6:59 PM

First thing, You, Person above me Congrats on being a dunse and spamming all those "!" and stretching the page.

Secondly, I personaly think they should release a "demo" that is just the creature editor no actual gameplay. Hell I'd PAY for that editor just so I could mess around and make the creature thats dancing in my head. Bottom half of a centipede top half of a humanoid crab.

Posted by Slaave at May 15, 2006 10:04 PM

Gaming Steve, I know this is like a year old, but I noticed that you seem to be confusing galaxies and the universe. In the demo, he went as far back as the galaxy, so the yellow square in the last pic is your solar system or planet. And like Will said, why would there be more galaxies when a single player will never visit all the planets, so why bother?

Just if anyone was wondering, cuz like you all know, this section is over a year old and most maybe noticed.

Well first of all, Pastor Visser, u are an idiot, but we could also say ur brain's in the first stages of evolution. And the devil doesn't exist, it's just a concept.
Second, this game is so really cool, can't wait 4 it to come out.

Posted by Lord Sauron at May 18, 2006 9:02 AM

This sort of reminds me of that SNES title EVO. That game had you evolve while following a linear sort of action scroller. I've often wondered why the concept wasn't pushed further, I mean the idea of evolving and changing your avatar leaves limitless possibilities.

Posted by Vice_Pope at May 18, 2006 3:00 PM

or a liquid such as plasma

-Posted by fandore at May 4, 2006 04:02 AM

For the record, plasma is not a liquid. Plasma is it's own stae of matter. The states of matter are:

Solid- Can have no energy at all. Typically Unmoving unless alive.

Liquid- Must be of higher energy. Usually in dynamic motion.

Gas- Further energized. Always in dynamic motion (Even if you dont feel it) Ideally will expand to fill container it's in.

Plasma- Greatly energized to the point of being spastic. Usually very hot, and found in the SUN! Gasses just typically dont get this much energy in space. The chances of finding a plasma planet are only likely in extreemly close proximaty to some massive energy source.

Hehe. Dont mean to be a jerk. Just sayin, plasma isn't a liquid. (Although plasma beings from the sun would be fantastic!)

Posted by Kemrin at May 20, 2006 9:50 AM

a short wishlist:-
All the planets I've seen seem to be only about 15 miles in diameter, hope we will be able to scale them up to something bigger.

How about being able to make a ringworld? or a Dyson sphere?

Can our creatures fly? I want to make intelligent pteradactyls!!

Posted by patrick at May 20, 2006 10:57 AM

I want this game.... N-O-W , i can't wait, and it's ruining my life because it's going to be released the first quarter in 2007!!

for christ sake will! can't you get it around in november?

and here's some un-interesting information i made heh
Will wright's ''um''s per minute is : 4,4

Posted by Alex at May 21, 2006 8:25 PM

Flying would be cool, or creatures with fure and hair. This is ruining my life to, I cant stand waiting till next year, and I keep seeing Will doing demos and him and other people are playing it. I want the version you have Will untill the real version comes out. Not fair.

Posted by Jesse Biedlingmaier at May 22, 2006 11:50 AM

one more thing,

Why do people go to game sites they dont like? If you dont like the game Spores then dont look it up on the web. Unless there is a little appeal to the game and you do want to buy it but you want to be the odd one and tell everybody you dont want it? Hmmm, weird.

Posted by Jesse Biedlingmaier at May 22, 2006 11:55 AM

I can't stand it either. I just saw another demo and it was saying something about cards; cards for planets, species, and other junk. For god's sakes, either answer someones questions or show me a site where there is a demo that i can actually play. Personally i want either a creature editor, or a game as a single celled thingy equiped cell editor. I first heard the game would come out around fall 2006, but now your saying its 2007; the longer you wait the more time us fans will have to find enough potential flaws not to buy the game.

P.S. Put an end to these crazy rumors and replace them with facts.

Posted by Doober at May 24, 2006 10:04 PM

I read some where (Don't remember where) Something about An idea that there might be an expansion that allows players to fly to another galaxy in their ufo and play pvp.
There would be a home galaxy where no-one can wreck your game and another galaxy where your actions effect everyone elses games.
This might only be a rumor so don't quote me on it.
Would be cool tho eh?

Posted by Noteslinger at May 27, 2006 4:12 AM

Right, to clear things up, SPORE is hopefully coming out August/September this year in the UK and USA. This is not a promise as we still have a lot of work to do on the game. At the moment there is no playable demo scheduled for development.

Posted by SporeDev at May 28, 2006 5:39 AM

Thank you, I just wish that there was a demo that would make waiting for the real game a lot eaiser =)

Posted by Tito Fitz at May 28, 2006 11:02 AM

It's tough to balance the urge to want to play this game, vs. the knowledge that the game would end up being a more quality product if it took its time and wasn't rushed.

I think it would be wise for the game to be released at the start of 07' if possible.

To sooth those that just want to touch a portion of the game, however, perhaps they could just release a character editor?

That'd satisfy me for now. I've been following this game since the start of 05' and all I really want to do is see what cool things I can make with the editor. Let them work on the game's inner-workings for the next year or so, as long as I can play in the sandbox. :)

Ya hear that, SporeDev's? Mebbe? Release a creature editor this August/Sept? I'll give you a dollar.

Posted by MatchNL at May 30, 2006 4:32 PM

alright theres a lil confusion it got delayed and its gonna be march 07 by the time its out. Now it may not live up to the hype but no matter what if its half as good as its cracked up to be ill be playing for 32 hours in the dark.

Posted by Chad at June 3, 2006 7:28 PM

Ok, and alex, I have to say that Mark totaly kicked your butt. I mean seriously, your like that put-down judge in American Idol.

Also if YOU had actualy taken the time to read Marks post you would see it is a good argumant. instead you just thought it was long and not worth reading and called it a bunch of "incoherent sentences."
Another thing, a FPS cannot compare to a sandbox, or even an RTS. Im not saying theyr'e better in any way, I'm saying theyr'e NOT COMPATABLE. You cant realy compare two things that are totaly different. An FPS is rated on how fast-paced it is, and a Sandbox on how creative and flexible it is, you just can NOT compare them!
On another note I love this game, i cant wait till it comes out, etc.

Posted by Chad at June 3, 2006 8:39 PM

I wonder if you can make more than one speeshy of creature. can you alter them at any point in the game. if u go onto land can u return to the water. can u create fungus or plant like life forms. Is it online. If it is online can another player destory my planet. If you play throue every generation of your creature it will be impossable to get to a multi cellular life form. These are questions that we should be asking. But the game seems to appeal to men whimen smart people dum people and every body in between.

This is a petition for Will Wright to release a creature editor playable demo, did you hear that a PLAYABLE DEMO. We need signatures, I know all of you are driven mad by the thought of this game being a year away, so sign the bloody petition so that we can finally play spore. And just to catch peoples attention when they scrool down and read these things.

when is it comming out or is there a demo of the game if so WHERE CAN I FIND IT.

Posted by logan at June 23, 2006 7:44 PM

Ok, this is just a suggestion to Will Wright for something to add to spore later, like an expansion pack. To really understand this I ask that you read Animorphs the Ellimist Chronicles by K.A. Applegate and The Seventh Tower The Fall byGarth Nix. Just the first few chapters will do. Ellimist describes a virtual game where you pick a species to play as, make a change to their planet and see what happens. Seventh Tower describes a card game where you combine aspects of existing creatures to create a new one (i saw how your game is going to include some kind of card feature and i just thought this would be cool.

Alright, if this petition is going to get big, we're gonna need to break out the big guns. Gaming Steve, if you read this please please announce it somewhere on your podcast seeing as how you have so many listeners. And everyone here, spread all across the internet and advertise this wherever you can find a suiting place! Plus i think the best demo would be just if he released the creature editor only, even that would be just awesome. So advertise the petition wherever you can and keep on keepin on with the good work. WE NEED YOU SPORE!!

Your not a true fan of the game until you have your order of Spore reserved already for release, and trust me I already got mine. Have you?

Posted by Brian at June 29, 2006 3:10 AM

This game looks really sweet. It looks like all the sims games put together. I mean the whole creature thing is just like sims. And the cars and ships are off of streets of simcity. And the city building part is simcity. Maxis as been trying to do this for years.

Posted by max at July 6, 2006 1:06 PM

I have seen an E3 video of this, here is the link:

Awesome, don't you think?!?

Posted by The ultimate game nerd at July 7, 2006 11:11 AM

when does this game come out

Posted by josh at July 8, 2006 5:08 PM

I hope that the creatures can do different things other than just walk around ( climb trees, swim, ect.) If it isn't in the origanal version then they should put it in an expansion pack.

Posted by PG at July 8, 2006 7:13 PM

I have watched all the movies and gameplays of this game and read.

Posted by Kenan at July 8, 2006 10:04 PM

I am seriously looking forward to this game. It's like combining creatures, sims, and basically all the other sim games. God knows I've played all of them, though not as extensively as creatures, which is the main reason why this game apeals to me. I just hope he'll be able to get far enough into the AI, to a level that I'm used to(I actually do a lot of programming in AI). Well, either way, this is definately the future of gaming, and all you critics need to pull your thumbs out of your asses and stick them down your throat.

Ok if you guys new anything about spore you would know that it comes in the spring of 2007 nothing earlyer ive looked at over 100 web sites and convos of will wright and videos hes not going to creat a demo because he wants to finish this game as early as posible. He wants to creat a demo but he has no time all his focas is on the game, but if he were truley doing this game 24 7 it would be dong sometime in december because now its about 85%-90% done if u look at ign .com there is 1 video that shows almos all the game all he has 2 do is make a few more empty planets and work out glitches, but in all the videos i've seen he could be done in december!

Posted by michael at July 14, 2006 4:53 PM

I read the interview with Wil Wright in this month's issue of Discover Mag. A quick blurb under a picture of a "creature" said Quote "In Spore, a player can animate any creature imaginable; for a fee, it can be made into a three-dimensional reality"
The picture is of various CREATURES which look like they were made of plastic or something... but they look very detailed!! So I am assuming that they will be able to create in 3-D any Creature I design.
I think this will be a HUGE draw to many... as even I wouldn't mind one of my "creations" to adorn my desk....
I'd Love to know more about this and the process they plan on using to recreate these creatures.... anyone know about this ??

Posted by Bleuspecter at July 14, 2006 11:10 PM

I had no idea about that but it sounds awsome! ive been completely freaking out about this game and i CANT WAIT for it to be released! *pulls hair* This is like the game to end all games!

Will Wright's going to release the creature editor as a demo, if you look in the forums at it shows you. You'd need to dig up a little bit though.

Posted by Van at July 18, 2006 4:57 AM

I may sound somewhat proud, arrogant even, but I was wishing for this game about five or six years ago and came up with the concept for no apparent reason whatsoever. Finally seeing this in action is like a dream come true - with approximately five million dollars going into its development over the past five or so years, I'd say that Spore will more than live up to our expecations. A long time ago someone named Subcrocodile posted something about this game creating a moral war between darwinists and creationists. Quite frankly, if that happens, it will simply give this undeniably remarkable title even MORE publicity, so I doubt that will cause a problem. Personally I'd revel in it - I love watching Fundamentalists rave. It's hilarious.

The technology being used here is simply revolutionary, and in my opinion, the advent of its use is long overdue. This will be a refreshing change from the traditional linear play of games such as Empire Earth which, while being undeniably expansive, often seem impersonal and predictable. This game *dwarfs* previous titles in that the programmers and game designers do not decide how things will turn out - the player, and indeed the community as a whole, will decide for them. The game simply provides the technology - we do the rest. While multiplayer *could* add an extra dimension to this game, it would be improving on perfection, inevitably to its detriment. The concept of an RTS Failure Extraordinaire such as myself building up a small, weak but entirely personal civilisation, then having it stomped on by some, '\/83|2 1337 |>\/\/z0|2z 64|\/|3|2' in its budding stage would probably be enough to put me off the game for good, or at least irritate me in the extreme. The concept of quasi-intelligent evolving AI, and indeed a whole galaxy of different worlds filled with player content for you to unlock and ENSLAVE AND SUBJIGATE TO YOUR ALL POWERFUL WILL, is more than enough for most gamers, including myself, to satisfy our sadistic imperialist fantasies. Even without a multiplayer feature, if this game works out, it will write the history books and cause a storm in the gaming community. I just wish I hadn't read up on this until next year - now I'll have to dream about it every day until mid 2007 by the looks of things.

In conclusion, this game is one of those little bundle of joy you would MELT YOU BEST FRIEND'S FACE WITH A BLOWTORCH to get a beta copy of. If this is anywhere NEAR as enigmatic as I predict, then this will probably go down as the greatest evolution of gaming in the 21st century so far. And no. I did not just make a pun I swear. *Looks around and throws down Ninja vanishing powder, escaping out of a nearby window*

And this isn't promotional. I just want this on my computer now because it's the embodiment of pwnage. I just hope we don't have another Black and White 2 on our hands. I really do: games which look this good rarely are. Let's pray to the Gaming Gods that this is an exception.

Posted by One Winged Angel at July 19, 2006 1:54 AM

I really don't freaken care if the editor demo will add to the spore universe or not!!!!! Just give me the freaken game. I heard somewhere that Will dosn't want to waste any time and get the game out as soon as possible. Even if the demo adds another month to the realease date, it would keep us entertained and quiet for at least seven months. People we must vow to annoy Will Wright until he gives us the demo!
Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn!!

Posted by doober at July 23, 2006 5:38 PM

I would love to see a demo released but I believe that If Will is focusing his efforts on improving the game then I would prefer that. We don't know how much extra work has gone into the game then we have seen from the demo videos. Creatures could have more procedural abilities. He could be adding flying creatures, underground creatures. There is basicly endless potential options that could be included. So for the mean time. I would suggest instead of requesting the demo, we talk about possabilities of additional options, gameplay, tool, objects etc. Help come up with some creative ideas. Will may even catch wind of these and be able to implement the ideas.

Posted by doober at August 8, 2006 4:11 PM

youl never believe this. i just saw a site like this one and one guy said that the demo comes out at the end of september. i also read that someone thinks that the demo should include bits of the first, second, and a bit of the third phases of the game. the third part might be a little much for a demo, but the first two might be a little awesom. that is... not to change their minds and postpone the demo to add stuff, i think just a creature editor will be just fine. but maby they could squeeze in a few extra editors in another demo of sorts.

There should be a free roam game option where you create all the animals and the atmosphere instead of having only one animal for the whole time that you can work with which still sounds awesome in the other types of games But a free roam game would make it more enjoyable. And can you just go into a creating mode and make animals and not have to play with them.

Will it take a really good computer to run spore or will an xp run it just as good. My freind was saying you need a alien ware ocmputer for it to run. But i think that would be stupid half the people on this websites porbly dont even have xp and i bet 1 or 2 have that alien ware computer. So if anyone out there knows anyhting write back. I just dont wanna get excited about a game thats coming out if my computer cannoot play the game. I b et everone else is thinking the same thing. Rememer write back

But at least i might hav got a better computer by then. At the moment it wont even play any of my games!!!

Nice article steve! Is Leipzeg on at the momment? and does anyone know if a release date will be specified at leipzeg, is this usually the done thing at this event? .

I realise Im probably hoping for the immpossible but I hope they release the full game in january and get the game patched for a while

Posted by David at August 24, 2006 12:19 PM

I'll be at university when this comes out, but if I must survive a month without food to afford the game, so be it.

I see vast opportunities for expansion in the franchise. Populr or famous civilisations will spawn anecdotes among those who encounter them, people will write fan fic about their own creations...

Perhaps there could be a classic MMORPG where people can assume species created by themselves or others in the original game, or a skirmish expansion, separate from the main game, in which several players could play in different levels against each other, like an RTS in the civ mode, or galactic war in Space mode, even a sort of hunt-em-down, beat-em-up game in the creature phase. Or an evolutionary arms race through every phase, in a quest to dominate the galaxy...

But then, what we've seen already is more than enough.

Posted by Bullet Magnet at August 27, 2006 12:53 PM

i just think that it would be stupid to release a game that only people that are loaded and have top of the line computer could have. it would not make much money if it did not work on xp or lower. My freind told me youd need top of the line please say something gamingsteve in your next video or what ever. thx alot

to Woll Wright, for the love of all that is decent and pure, i had my hopes up when i read that a demo would come out in late september, but now i can see that's not going to happen. you serieously need to come back on this site and talk to us. tell us something of value, tell us when the demo comes out, confirm or deny some of the rumors. also, i'm watching Blue Gender episode 26 right now, i think you should watch it too and modify the editor to create something like the creature seen in the first few minutes.

P.S. to the guy who calls himself (demo more sucher); if your going to get on this site, you need to have at least a double digit grade in english.

Actually I agree that spore won't get too far, as sim games rarely create 'addiction'. Like, what's the purpose? I mean, u create a creature, evolve it, evolve it more, then wack all the competition... then what? u get bored and try something else.
Btw, doober, Woll Wright? LOL, that's funny...

Posted by Jon D at March 26, 2007 5:13 AM

i just saw a new video which brings up some question i have been meaning to ask. in the video, Will basically destroied his homeworld. can you be selfsuficient as a ship? can you have more than one ship? im thinking, if i make a water creature and i want an occupied planet, i can just drown the inhabitants and set up civilization. another video had cities and defenses all over the planet. this poses a question about defense. it does seem possible to create a city planet, but what about SPACE STATIONS? this might be the first time spore fans have considered this. if it isn't possible to become a homocidle lone ship, then i want my homeworld safe. and "come on Will", the time spent in adding a molecular stage could be used to shave a few months off the release date, or giving that darn demo.
i know the readers are all thinking that.

Posted by doober at March 26, 2007 10:26 PM

i have doing some more reading. it seems that cybernetic inhancements are possible. so does that mean that my species can become the BORG and assimilate species? and what about pets, slaves, and worshipers?
also, by watching one of the most recent videos i have learned that there are cheats because Will used them.
and woud someone who has the answers (i mean someone who is currently working on the project, not some idiot who reads too much like me) PLEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE please respond!

P.S. there is a game called Flow, it is basically a demo for the cell stage of Spore. is another site for a potential demo. although if you can't beat and master it in 2 minutes or less, then you don't deserve the real Spore. and if you find or unlock anything beyond the only 2 objects in the editor, please post instrunctions on this site.

Posted by doober at April 3, 2007 10:53 PM

this might just be me, but since your clearly not releasing a demo, i think it would be nice if you created a site with the rule book pages. (those little booklets that come with the game and tell you the rules. some basic components of the game, like what each building does, the different symbols on the info and game screen, descriptions of each component in the editors, and maybe some suggestions on how to play the game.

im currently playing civilization 4 and im pretty much mastering it. spore looks like a game that might take years to truly master. and with the polination of content, who needs a demo when the makers, or even the players can create regular updates to keep the game fresh. im thinking new kinds of weapon and nonweapon tools for the ship, or new parts in the editors. where the heck is it already.

Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... Waiting so much for me is a torture! If anyone have a TRUE source of when this game's gonna be out in Canada (if you can be more precise, in Qc, Montreal). If you does, please give me the site so i can see it, i would be very happy, and the others fan that wait like me would all be happy.
Thank's in advance.

i can't take this much more.
how the heck are spore makers getting paid if the game isn't out.
several sites that ive been too say spore is due in 2007.
a few say 2008.
those idiots at marxis need to contact these people and at least tell whos wrong.
im beginning to lose intrest completly.
Ivan needs to stop playing and describe it to us.
and this site is for spore related topics, not elementry school fund raisers.
